Ramit Sethi learns that his family's new baby will be supported by Maui's Pacific Birth Collective, which provides free groceries, classes, and resources for the first year and a half. The organization essentially covers major baby expenses, revealing how a strong local community can do what the national safety net doesn't.
Is there something happening in 2 weeks? Oh, I don't know, maybe a baby. So like, where does the baby fit in financially speaking?
What's really great is because we will be spending, um, the first year and a half or so of this child's life in Maui, there's a really good community that's set up there with really great community resources. So food in Maui will be free. Um, what? Why? It's just like, it's paradise. Pacific Birth Collective. Yeah.
So there's an amazing birth collective out there that offers new parents and protecting parents, um, resources.
No kidding.
Yeah, you get a whole bag of groceries every week. You get access to free education classes.
Yeah, you know, like, the fact that I am, like, shocked and we live in the wealthiest country in the world really speaks to the fact of how misaligned we are. Yeah, the fact that, like, oh, two new parents getting groceries once a week, I'm like, what? Yeah, but, like, isn't that something that we would be able to do, or we should be able to do more broadly?
