Prabhupada encouraged spiritual competition. Spiritual competition goes on even in the spiritual world amongst the gopis, even amongst Radharani and Chandrabali. That is, when Lalita sees Vishaka is doing so much service, she says, 'I must do more than Vishaka.' And then Vishaka says, 'I must do more than Lalita.' And they encourage each other through the spiritual competition. Similarly, there's competition between Radharani and Chandrabali. Chandravali says, "Radharani is doing so much service to Kṛṣṇa, I must do more." And then Radharani sees that Chandravali has increased her service. And then Radharani says, "Now I must do more to attract Kṛṣṇa." So in the end, Radharani always wins.
