In this heartfelt monologue, the speaker honors H.H. Gopāla Kṛṣṇa Mahārāja, emphasizing that his most distinguished title is being a "Prabhupāda man." The narrative recounts Gopāla’s first encounter with Krishna consciousness in 1967 while working in Montreal, his early service at the Toronto temple, and the profound impression he made on Srila Prabhupāda during a three‑month visit. The speaker cites Prabhupāda’s remarks—calling Gopāla a "very nice boy" who should be encouraged—and notes the exchange of nine letters over that period, underscoring a deep mentor‑disciple bond. The talk expands to a broader spiritual perspective, describing Prabhupāda’s eternal contingent of servants who accompany him across lifetimes, and situates Gopāla within that lineage alongside other senior disciples such as Tamal Krishna Maharaj. The speaker reflects on the inevitability of disciples’ eventual departure, the master’s ongoing mission, and the ultimate reunion of all devotees, conveying reverence, gratitude, and confidence in Gopāla’s lasting service to Krishna consciousness.

Gopal Krishna Maharaj. What can I say? Just like, I think the greatest title a devotee can have in the international society for Krishna consciousness, that he was a Prabhupada man. Gopal Krishna Maharaj was a Prabhupada man. That's all you need. No big titles, this, that. Sri Prabhupada, man. How Prabhupada saw Gopalakrishna Maharaj. We have our ways of seeing him as his disciples and compatriots and friends and well-wishers. It's all very wonderful, but who could know him better than Srila Prabhupada? Many devotees, Prabhupada disciples, will tell you that when they sometimes came in contact with Prabhupada and Prabhupada looked at them, it was as if Prabhupada was looking directly into their hearts. It could be a little bit uncomfortable. Actually, we felt this. Prabhupada looked at us and he knows me better than I know myself. So I just want to make a few quotes to see how Prabhupada saw this amazing devotee, his beloved son, Gopākṛṣṇa Mahārāja. We know that he came in contact with Kṛṣṇa consciousness in 1967. Many are called but few are chosen. He came very early while he was working in Montreal, and one day he visited the temple there. And but when he left, he wrote his name in the visitor book, so the temple kept writing to him for donations because he was 27 years old working in the country like that. About a year later, he got a letter from the temple in Montreal that Prabhupāda was going to visit the Toronto temple. Temple. So Gopal Krishna Maharaj, at that time his name was Gopal, just Gopal, he went and first thing he did when he entered the temple is he said, "Can I do some service?" So they had him clean Prabhupada's room. He was also in the kitchen and doing various services. Anyway, to make a long story short, Prabhupada came to Toronto that visit and he stayed 3 months in the temple. During that time, he noticed Gopal, and he actually said one time to the temple president, "This Gopal is a very nice boy, and he must be encouraged." He could see from the very beginning the potential of this wonderful devotee. So during that time, Prabhupāda stayed 3 months, he exchanged letters with Gopal, 3 letters a month. For 3 months. That's 9 letters, 9 times they communicated from the very beginning. I was told, Prabhupada said one time, when the spirit— as a spiritual master travels life after life in this world preaching Krishna consciousness, he has a contingent of servants, of disciples, both men and women, who accompany him birth after birth after birth. So when I think of Gopalakrishna Maharaj, I think surely he's one of those disciples was always with Prabhupada. He was called at the opportune moment. Just like my godbrother Tamal Krishna Maharaj, he was doing fantastic preaching, but Prabhupada felt there was a more important service. We took him from America and brought him here to India. So it's up to the discretion of the spiritual master and when, where, and how we serve. So when my illustrious godsisters, my illustrious godbrothers depart, it's painful, but I'm thinking Prabhupāda has a mission somewhere else for them, either in this world or in that world. But one day we'll all be together again.
