Lord Caitanya Tour to South India | 22.08.23 | ISKCON Toronto,Canada | Śrīla Gopāl Kṛṣṇa Goswāmī

In this lecture delivered at ISKCON Toronto, Śrīla Gopāl Kṛṣṇa Goswāmī recounts Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s historic tour of South India, illustrating how his personal example, public chanting, and devotional outreach converted countless people—including scholars, governors, and even the sick—into followers of Krishna consciousness. The talk weaves scriptural references from the Chaitanya Charitamrita, Bhagavata, and Bhagavad‑Gītā with vivid anecdotes (Kurma Das, Vasudeva Prasad, Sudama, Ramānanda Rāya, etc.) to demonstrate the miraculous, healing, and egalitarian nature of the Hare Krishna mantra. The speaker then expands the discussion to broader themes: the need for spiritual education alongside material learning, the concept of real wealth as devotional service, methods for training the mind to become a spiritual ally, and practical guidance for daily chanting, mood, and maintaining consciousness in everyday activities. A brief Q&A with Prasad Raval addresses how to keep Krishna in mind while engaged in ordinary tasks and at the moment of death. The lecture emphasizes that chanting is free, universally effective, and the key to lasting happiness and liberation.

Om mani padme hum. Om mani padme hum. Om mani padme hum. Om mani padme hum. Om mani padme hum. Om mani padme hum. That's my secret of inner mahatma. Shri Chaitanya Mahāprabhu is the sāmtāmīena bhūtelē. Welcome to the Radhakrishna Temple. And today I was going to speak on Lord Caitanya. All of you know Lord Caitanya? Who is he? Krishna. Sri Krishna Caitanya Radhakrishna Ananya. So Lord Caitanya's teaching and pastime are described in great detail in Chaitanya Charitamrita, Chaitanya Bhagavat, and a few other books. And Lord Chaitanya's tour of southern India is a very interesting topic. Lord Chaitanya appeared in Bengal and he's the incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Chaitanya had converted everyone to the path of Vaishnavaism. Lord Chaitanya had converted a very staunch impersonalist whose name was Sarvabhauma Paricharya to the path of personalism, and Lord Chaitanya wanted to go to South India. Lord Caitanya's tour of South India is very memorable, and he went over there and he took permission from his devotees that I want to go to South India. Lord was very indebted to his devotees and he He will ask the devotees, "Can I go there?" So, Swami Muktananda Maharaj, "Please be the Lord, please stay with me for 5 more days." And then the Lord stayed there for 5 more days and he finally left. Before he left, Swami Muktananda Maharaj told him, there is a And there is very exalted devotee in the South who is actually working as a governor, governor, working as a chief of the state, and he is a great devotee of the Lord. So Lord says, and who was that?— he entered South India. He was going from village to village, town to town, you know, and before Achuthanya left, on the plea of his associates, He took one devotee as his assistant. That assistant was carrying his water pot. So as Lord Caitanya was traveling in South India, people from great distance would come to see him. And, Hare Krishna! People from great distance would come and see him. By seeing him chant and dance, they would also be people also began to chant in dance. And the other people, they were seeing Lord Caitanya chant in dance, they would go back to their villages, and other people by seeing them, they would also get spiritualized, they would also start chanting. So this way Lord Caitanya promoted everyone in South India the path of devotion. So this is effect of spiritual association. Just like infection, it starts with one person, one place, and gradually spreads everywhere. It's like COVID. It started with one, one case, then it infection with us. Spreading. Just like material infection spreads, spiritual, spiritual affliction also spreads. So just like Prabhupāda, he went all along to the West and he established Krishna Consciousness everywhere. So spiritual attention He cultivated. So, Hare Krishna. So this way, Lord Caitanya converted everyone to the path of personalism. Lord Caitanya was passing through Jharkhand forest. They made the animals also chant the name of the Lord. And Srila Prabhupada Also when he went to the West, where people were very degraded, addicted to wrong things, but they got transformed. So finally he came to the house of a devotee called Kurma. Kurma Das was a householder. And he had children. He welcomed Achyutanya to his house. Achyutanya would eat in different house, different home, and Kriyamadasa washed the feet of Achyutanya and said, how fortunate he is The Lord has come to his house. And then the Lord said, then he said, I will leave my house and come with you traveling. But Chaitanya said, you don't have to, you don't have to give up your house, renounce your house. Stay where you are. And chant the Hare Krishna mantra. Chant the Hare Krishna mantra and teach others the glories of the Holy Name. And he said, then you also read Kṛṣṇa's instructions— if I were the member of the Gita. If you do this, you will not be separated from me, and I will not be separated from you. You will always be with me. So what is it? And then he— this devotee was very compassionate. His whole body was full of worms, and his body was so diseased that people would cross over to the other side of the road where he was standing. So this devotee heard that. 'Come to Kurma's house.' So we went to Kurma's house to have his darshan, but the Lord had already departed. When he heard that the Lord had departed, he had a heart attack. He almost fainted. Lord Chaitanya is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He knew that. Vaisnava prasada. Very sad. Because, because he could not have any darshan. So the Lord came back. When the Lord came back, he embraced Vasudeva Prabhu. And he embraced him, his disease was completely gone. He became a very handsome young man. And so, by the Lord's mercy, you know the Christians talk about miracles that Jesus Christ did, so we also have a lot of miracles, but we don't emphasize it. So, Lord Chidambaramo brought in this Vasudeva Prasad, a very handsome young man. Then, Vasudeva Prasad thought, now I will not become proud. I will not become proud. Because I was so ugly and so diseased, nobody would come anywhere near me. Now I have become so handsome, so what should I do? So, what about that? Then the Lord said, 'You chant Hare Krishna, and preach the glories of Hare Krishna, read the Bhāgavatam and Bhagavad-gītā, and preach the glories of Bhāgavatam and Bhagavad-gītā, then you will always remain humble and meek. So, Pārthitānyā gave the same instruction to everyone, to chant and to read the Gītā, the peace in the Bhagavad Gita. So this way, Lord Caitanya spread Krishna consciousness. Now, when Swāmi Devīprabhu realized that it was the Lord's mercy, he cited a story of words in the Bhagavad Gita, Viṣuddhāra, son of a Brahman, story is described. So now Brahman was a very poor, very poor Brahman, and the nature of Brahman is he does not blame others for his problems, etc. And he was a very saintly Brahman, and he and his wife It was also very simple. And he was content. So, Sudama Brahman was so poor, his wife would always tell him, please go and meet your friend. It was the Lord's classmate at one time. So, Sudama Brahman, he was Satisfied, his wife kept telling him, why don't you go and meet your rich friend in Dwarka? Finally he said, okay, I'll go. And Prasad Raaval asked his wife, is there anything I can take with me that will, that I can give as a gift? Generally when you go to see a saintly person, which is always take a flower or something, offer. So his wife, they were so poor that they could not, she could not find anything in the house that could be offered as a gift. So she just found some grain. So then she had to approach her neighbors whom he got some, and he tied it into his dhoti and proceeded for Dwarka. Very rich Dwarka. Dwarka is not imaginary because in Dwarka at one time there were over 16,000 palaces. Krishna was residing with each of his queens. And now the muni wanted to test the Supreme Lord, so he went to different palaces, and he saw that Krishna is present in each palace doing a different function. And finally he came to Lord's residence. So when he came to the Lord's residence, he just walked straight And the doorkeeper was surprised to see how he was received by the Lord. He was received by the Lord by very warmly, Lord washed his feet and Lord said, began to recall his childhood pastime. And as he recalled the childhood pastimes, how he along with Siddhartha, the Lord along with Siddhartha was engaged in serving his spiritual master, how they got lost and he was in a Bhutanese, in a— I am sitting in everyone's heart. That's what was told. And when the Sudama Brahmin did not offer anything to Anjuman, Sudama was so pleased by what he gave, few grains. And then the Sudama Brahmin was just meditating, what am I going to tell my wife? And then, when he reached his house, what did he see? He saw that his hut was transformed into a palace, and his wife was wearing simple tone saree, was dressed up in a glamourous, opulent saree. He couldn't understand. This is by the mercy of Krishna. This is by the mercy of my friend Krishna. And so, Vāsudeva Prabhupāda, he was transformed to this very handsome young man. He quoted that verse where Śrīla Rāma says, I'm a poor Brahmin, but a friend of a very rich person, and this opulence that I have now is due to the mercy of my friend. So, Vaisnava Vipra was materially poor and diseased, but by the mercy of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, he became a very opulent man. Lord Caitanya was preceded then by a great devotee, Rāmānanda Rāyaṣṭha. Rāmānanda Rāyaṣṭha, as I told you, he was a governor reporting to a king in Orissa called King Prasādhapuṣa. King Prasādhapuṣa was a very God-conscious king. This morning in the class we were discussing about Pariksit Maharaj. Pariksit Maharaj was a real rajarishi. He was a ruler who cared for his citizens like his children, and at the same time a great devotee of the Lord. So King Prasad RAVAL was also similarly a very God-conscious king. He was so So Rāmānanda Rāy was the governor and the king of the Madras province was King Pratāpura. So Caitanya Mahāprabhu came to the banks of the river Godāvari and there he saw that there was one person who was carried in a palanquin. In olden days, the royalty was carried in a palanquin. And there were no cars at that time. So Lord Chithanya said, are you, are you Mohammedur Rahman? Sarabhubanacharya had told him that he would meet a very great personality who was self-realised but still working as a gourda. So when the two got together, Lord Caitanya said, "Why should I know everything?" The Lord knew everything, but He likes to glorify His devotee. This is like the devotees acted to glorify the Lord. We see a similar pattern in the passing away of Vaisnadeva. Vaisnadeva was a great warrior, and Vaisnadeva was satisfied that Yudhishthira Maharaj had been installed on the throne. So he said— and Vaisnadeva had received the benediction and he could choose the moment of departure, just like in Tathāyoga, people were so God-conscious that they could choose their moment of departure. If you were to give this facility to the people today, all these funeral homes would go bankrupt. So, Ramana Maharshi, before they— he was lying on his bed of arrows, Around him were the demigods and Lord Krishna himself and the Pandava brothers. The Lord told Yudhishthira, you please ask before they explain how mankind can perfect himself. To answer the usual question. The Lord could easily have answered this. The Lord knew the answer. He had the question in mind. He was able to give instruction. So he was devoted to the Lord. He was always protected by the Lord. So Ramana Maharshi answered many questions put to him by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. One question that was asked was, What is the real, what is real education? This is the question Lord Chaitanya asked Ramana Maharshi. What is real education? Ramana Maharshi replied, real education is obtaining knowledge by which you can become free from the cycle of birth and death. Preparing knowledge He talks about love of God. So today in today's society, what do we see? That there are many educational institutions, isn't it? There's no shortage of educational institutions. But unfortunately, children education, you may go as high as PhD degree and so on, but children education cannot satisfy the individual. Prasad Raaval used to give an example. 0 0 0 0 is 0. But if you add the figure 1, then the 0 has become valuable. So similarly, education that does not teach us about the Supreme Law is a waste of time. So real education is giving people spiritual knowledge also. And in the 9th chapter, Kṛṣṇa says, 'Rāja vidyā rāja'— this knowledge is the king of education. We should know that material education on its own cannot satisfy the individual. We are not speaking against material education, but we are just emphasizing that material education should be accompanied by spiritual education. Then you can have people grow with character, morality, etc. Today we see, because there's no spiritual education, from a young age, they do all bad habits. They become drug addicts. Most of the universities in India now, this is a major problem with the students. And there's misuse. Or getting it, get started when students are in school, because it's a religious education. Then he, Ramana Maharshi, was asked, what is one song you can say that is the sound incarnation of the Lord? Kali Kali Na Parama Krishna Hota. Kali Yuga he incarnates. See the foreign soul. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu instructed all his followers to go house to house and preach religion. And he said, "The chant that glorifies the Lord, the one mantra that I can chant, one mantra one can chant, is the Hare Krishna, Māhāmādhā. In the scriptures we read about the importance of chanting the holy name of the Lord in this age. According to Ayurvedic scriptures, there are four principal ages, just like there are different diseases. There are four ages: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga,— in Satya Yuga, lifespan is 100,000, and people used to live— maximum lifespan was 100,000. And people would meditate for 80,000 years. And the process was meditation on the Lord. Meditation is no doubt a common thing, a common word used today also. But meditation today means Close your eyes and virtually fall asleep. Medication is taking on a form of the normal. Then came Siddha Yoga, in which the lifespan was reduced by 10 times to 10,000 years, and the process was very elaborate, you guess. In which you would have Brahmins who ignited fire without any matches, through yagyas called Brahmins, and pure ingredients like milk, yogurt, etc. But that is also not possible in this age. And then came Baba Yoga. Where the lifespan gets reduced again by 10%, maximum of 100 years. And Prasad RAVAL has simplified what is it? Chanting the Holy Name. Chanting the names of the Lord. This chanting names of the Lord is supported in other scriptures also. For example, in the Bible it is said, Thou shalt all chant the name of the Lord. In all the scriptures, Quran, Gita, the importance of chanting the holy name of the Lord is emphasized. And what does the holy name do? Someone may ask. All of you know what it will do. The holy name, as Mahāprabhu said, Śrīla Bhagavān Mahāprabhu instructed his followers to write books on the standard devotional service. He personally lectured and explained to Sanatana Gosvāmī and Rūpa Gosvāmī the process of devotional service. Well, Mahāprabhu himself left behind only 8 verses that we identify as the Śrīmad-Bhāgavata. And these 8 verses summarize the Vaiṣṇava teaching. So, citte mahāprabhu, the first verse is, citta-nirmañjanam,— that is, not only will it cleanse the heart, it will give you unending spiritual happiness. Prabhupāda used to say that if you are standing on the bank of the shore, you can see the height of the ocean is limited, but the height of the spiritual ocean is unlimited. In other words, you can go on experiencing happiness, which will just go on increasing and increasing and increasing. In the material world, some activity may give you pleasure, but that pleasure is not going to go on increasing, it's going to come down, isn't it? When you're very hungry, the first chapati gives you some relief, pleasure, but then you reach a point and you say, "No more." But the spiritual ecstasy that you want to feel, is realized by chanting the holy names of the Lord. And when you chant the holy names of the Lord, it also gives you unending pleasure. Otherwise, why would people chant the names of the Lord? Because the names of the Lord are transcendental and coming from the spiritual world. Tākura Vāksināda, Veda-cārya, who gave us the pure Kṛṣṇa consciousness message, Dr. Bhaktivedanta says in his 'Jeev Jaga' prayer that you came to this material world promising that I'm going to engage in devotional service. Dr. Bhaktivedanta wrote a beautiful prayer, 'Jeev Jaga'. He says, 'Oh, conditioned soul, please get up, you are snoring.' in the lap of, known as Maya. How the child in the mother's womb promises, "I will take your devotion service when I come out of this terrible position of being in the mother's womb." But when you came here, you forgot your promise. Now I have brought the medicine to cure your disease of What is that medicine? The Holy Name of the Lord, Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. And this Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is coming from the spiritual world. So take this Holy Name, Holy Name, and purify your life. So that is the conclusion of the scriptures. Then amongst other things he said, What should the living entity constantly think about? Now, as you know, the mind is a very important player in our spiritual endeavor. So, Ramana Maharshi and Bhagavad Gita say, if you act in such a way, you make friends with the mind. Enemy. When is the mind considered to be your friend? When the mind is following instruction of the Lord and the previous instructions. Just like how we get considered to be a law-abiding citizen? If you are following the law. And the mind, mind is the worst of enemies. When it is thinking of something that is contrary to Pauling Leo, instructor of the law. So, it is said in the Gita, we should make friends with the mind and not the enemy. So now the question is, how do we make the mind our friend? At the present moment, our mind is our enemy, because we are— the mind is always trying to distract us. It's not that when you come to spiritual life, maya, maya devi goes away. Maya tries to attack the candidate, or maya devi is testing the candidate. So one who is intelligent engages the mind positively. Therefore, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's question is very appropriate. We hear about talking, controlling the mind, controlling the mind, but how do you practically control the mind? And you practically control the mind by engaging in transcendental activities. For example, the mind needs something to think about. It can't be in vacuum. For example, think about the glories of the Holy Name. How the Lord is so kind, He incarnates in His Holy Name. We talked about that, the glories. Then think about the Lord's pastimes. Bhagavad-gītā, the Lord's pastimes are unlimited. There is no limit to the Lord's pastimes. And His pastimes are all superhuman. The Lord, janmakarma-cāmē devyam, by appearing, disappearance, abhautās nello. So the Lord always performs superhuman activities. Just like the Lord's mother was informed that today when they went to play, the Lord ate clay. So his mother said, "Son, what happened? I heard that you ate clay while playing with your friends." Mother, no! They lost in a game we were playing and now they wanted to get me chastised. They've given me a false complaint. If you don't believe me, I'll open my mouth and you can see if there's any dirt inside. Mother said, okay. And when he opened the mouth, what did she see? She saw all these universes, planets, how the living entities were suffering, and so on. Then Mother began to think, "Am I getting bewildered, or is this real?" She couldn't really understand. Mother could not understand his inconceivable potency. When you read a Kṛṣṇa book, You see that Lord's pastimes are inhuman. They are not human. Lord appears, when he appeared in front of his parents, how did he appear? He appeared in his forehead, a transcendental form. And then when the Lord was told by his parents, His parents were in Kamsala's prison house and the Lord wanted to convince Devaki, now I appear as a servant child, so you should not worry. To convince his mother, convince everyone that, to convince everyone showed as the whole universe to him. So the main cosmic is the pastime of the Lord, and he starts the pastime of the Lord. Lord reveals. Lord is a chuta, infallible, and he is invisible. So Krishna's activities are superhuman, just like His parents requested him to transform to an ordinary child. Similarly, Lord appearing as Lord Nrsimhadeva. There is inhuman incarnation of the Lord. There is a fish and a boar, but he's born in all the different forms of the Lord. So Lord's pastime was superhuman. He was just an ordinary man. One 5-year-old boy lifted a giant hill. It was— the Govardhan Hill at that time was so big, so tall, that its top was as high as the clouds, till the clouds in the sky, it was so tall. Today what you see is a tiny, tiny, tiny portion of the original Govardhan Hill. And he lifted it with his finger. For 5, 7 days, people won't believe it. So Lord is transcendental and superhuman. And in the Bhāgavatam we see that. So, think of the Lord's pastime. Like now Balarama is going to be coming, Bala Miantya is going to be in few days. Lord Balarama's pastimes are also superhuman. How Balarama killed these demons, etc. So think about the Lord's transcendental pastimes. Then what else? Think about the Lord's instructions. The instructions in the Bhagavad-gītā, for example. Arjuna, the Lord's eternal companion, was feeling despondent that now the Lord has departed. And he recalled those past lives in which Krishna came to their rescue. The Pandavas in exile, they were living in a house of lack and Because, you know, I'm feeling very sad, my companion, dear friend has disappeared. Then Arjuna began to meditate on Krishna's instruction of the Bhagavad Gita. When he started meditating on Krishna's instruction of the Bhagavad Gita, he was satisfied. He was satisfied. Stand, and mind became peaceful. So, and then he became joyful by meditating on Krishna's instructions of the Bhagavad Gita. So the point is that if we meditate on Bhagavad Gita's meaning, then that will satisfy us. So engage the mind thinking of the Krishna's instructions in the Bhagavad Gita. But that can only be done if you also read regularly. Reading regularly the Bhagavad Gita is a source of spiritual strength. So, Ramana Maharshi said, the question was, "How do we think about the Lord?" And the answer was, "Think about the glories of the Holy Name, think about the transcendental passion of the Lord, think about the form of the Lord." If you are there in a variety of forms, they are all transcendental. And this way the mind will be positively engaged. And think about the challenges facing our preaching. Like right now, we have a Bhagavatam marathon going on in ISKCON, where devotees are trying to distribute Bhagavatam sets. So then when the book marathon comes, you would start thinking, how can we engage these people? I mean, of course, I get all our members, but now where will I go? You meditate how you can overcome this difficulty, and Krishna will give you some Prasad RAVAL. He gave the mind in thinking how the preaching should expand. So in other words, engage the mind positively. Mind's nature is to be active. If you don't fill your mind with material— spiritual topics, then it will be occupied by material topics. Sometimes people say it's impossible to control the mind. But it's possible to engage the mind positively, and that is perfection. Then Chittamārpa Prabhu asked, "What is real capital or real wealth?" And the answer was, real wealth is understanding the importance of devotional service, and what you— and through devotional service, cultivating real capital. And real capital is when you cultivate devotional service. Our Caitanya Mahāprabhu once told his disciples— now one was— I will only talk to those who are lakpatīs. Lakpatī means rich, millionaire type. The devotees were in panic. We heard that now Oh, you know, he talked to, you know, 1 million, that was his, Lord Caitanya said. But that was the event, he was chanting the name of the Lord 3,000 times. So the real asset is the points you accumulate by doing devotional service. So this way, the mind will be positively engaged. In the mind, in the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says, yam yam api svaram bhavam. The mind will be at the moment of death, until then. The perfection is that when you're passing away, you remember Krishna's pastimes or Krishna's instruction, or That is perfection. But law of nature is such that whatever activity we have engaged in, that is where the mind will be at the moment of death. If you engage in nonsense activity, then at the moment of death, that's what will be in your mind. And if you have engaged in devotional service and you have attempted to evolve the mind spiritually, Then the mind is thinking of Kṛṣṇa. And that is bhakti. That is perfection. Unfortunately, society, people do not know what is real religion, what is the real purpose of life. There are so many spiritual teachers. One of the— in India, so many spiritual teachers. Just examine what they are preaching. They will see what they are preaching, is it consistent with the teaching of Bhagavad-gītā, and you won't find they are. So Prabhupāda presented everything as it is, and he did not care whether people would follow him or not. When he first went to New York, he was advised that this traditional dress and instructions did not work. He did not come to mind. So my purpose was today to present to you about Lord Caitanya. He is merciful incarnation, most merciful incarnation. Nrsimhadeva Tathagata says, of all the avatars, you are the most merciful. He's given us a very easy process, Self-realization. Chanting Hare Krishna, does it cost you any money? Does it? No. Many people sell mantras. It's a secret mantra, we'll give it to you only if you pay some money. We don't charge you any rent. It's absolutely free. But sometimes free things are not appreciated. So all of you sitting here, I believe Chanda only did. If we have to make some sacrifice, we should make it to succeed spiritually. Gopaka Swami said, "My dear friend, whichever sacrifice you have to make, make it, but become Krishna conscious." So, this Krishna conscious movement is teaching society how to be happy and how to lead a civilized life. Civilized life begins when you cultivate, when you begin to cultivate spiritual knowledge. In ordinary society we think a man is dressed up nicely, has an expensive car, expensive environment in which he lives, we say, "Oh, this man is a gentleman." A real gentleman, gentlewoman is one who is cultivating following the Lord's instruction. So thank you very much. Hare Krishna. Those who are connected to ISKCON know the importance of Bhagavad-gītā, donate or His powerful preaching, the very powerful way of preaching, the glories of devotion. How many of you have the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in your house? You have purchased it in the recent months? And how many of you are reading the Bhāgavatam regularly? How many of you have the Bhagavad Gita at home? Everyone. How many of you are reading the Gita every day? It doesn't matter what your intention is. It doesn't matter what your intention is. If you want to take a Bhagavadam class, or if you want to take a Bhagavadam class— or deal with the peace thing, the Mahatma said, during this period of marathon. Any questions? How many of you have read Māutītīrastura, Sādhviniya, etc., etc.? Recently, somebody told me, a thousand Buddha opened in the world war, right? Just in the last time.
Yeah.
Yes.
Thank you. So we might be thinking about Engaging the mind. We might be thinking of Kṛṣṇa at the time of chanting, hopefully, or the time we're reading, but maybe the moment we don't do that, we're thinking about some inanity. So, how do we think throughout the day, even while we're doing something else?
I didn't hear that, Prasad. Can you repeat?
So, we might be thinking of Kṛṣṇa It's not as when we're reading or when we're chanting, but the moment we're doing something else, we're thinking about something else.
There's a whole art of training your mind. You're always thinking of the Lord. Yāmi māpi smāramāho 'am. You're reminded in the moment of that. Prasad Raaval in the Bhagavad-gītā gives an example. Which I believe is taken from Lord Chaitanya's story. Rupa and Sanatana Gosvami were running at that time the kingdom of Muhammad Hussein Shah, Muhammadan king, and Rupa Gosvami and his brother didn't have their heart into that job, because he forced them. He was a king, then they agreed. But the intention was not to continue but join Mahāprabhu's movement. So they heard that Prasad Raaval was coming to Ramakrishna. Rūpa Gosvāmī Mahāprabhu said, "I don't want to continue with this movement by force. I want to be with you and go to Vrindāvana." Chaitanya at that time he did not want to give up his job. He was virtually like the Prime Minister of the king. So Lord Chithanya said, "You continue where you are, but be like a married woman who has a lover." A married woman is always thinking about her lover, but at home she will be very Normal. So do your job, but think of me. So Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita, "Sasmat sarvesu kaleśu mama nasmāra imanuśca." Arjuna, with your mind and intelligence dedicated to me, fight. Fight doesn't mean physically fight. You will try to defeat Maya. So, even we have different occupation, our goal should be to try and think of the Lord and His pastimes. Anyway, you are trying 100%, you may succeed 5-10%, but at least try. We don't expect anyone to be in a state Saying, yogi, try your best. Prabhupada said, you take one step towards Krishna and he takes 10 steps towards you. Because Krishna sees here is someone who is just beginning his service. Krishna gave him the opportunity to expand that. But if we don't want to take advantage of the opportunity, then that is our misfortune. Any more questions? Mahārāja, when we sit for the chanting in the morning, what should be our mood before starting the chanting? Our mood should be that ultimately we will develop ruci for the Holy Name, keśava-holy name. At present, Our taste is towards satisfying our eyes, tongue, etc. It should be that. I should know about taste. Rūpa Gosvāmī in the Uddiyāsa Mena Bhāgavata book says, the holy name of the Lord is sweet like sugar candy. The pastimes of the Lord are sweet like sugar candy. But because I am suffering from disease of avidya, the Holy Name doesn't appear sweet. While chanting you fall asleep, but by eating prasāda we never fall asleep. Because we have a little taste for Gaurī. You don't have to listen to lectures, you develop a taste for prasāda. That's a positive thing. So, our goal in life should be to get attached to the Holy Name, to get attached to the instruction of the Lord. Your mood should be to chant attentively, and if you chant attentively, then the results will also follow. This disease of avidya has to be cured. The Buddha lives in India. Yeah. Oh, sorry. Hare Krishna Maharaj. Thank you for the lecture. I had a question related to Prasad Raaval's question. What if at the time of death, like we get in a car accident or something, it's hard for us to remember Krishna? The body, the body has nothing to fear. At the moment of death, maybe due to accident, disease, or being in coma, all the services he has done, stand to his rescue. Śrīla Swāmi said, "Devotional service is so powerful that even if you run with both your eyes closed, you will not fall." What this means is that devotional service rendered in any situation, is eternally benefit. So you have a devotee, no fear, doesn't matter how he dies. The service he has done has eternal bank balance. Okay, so now I see all the time is finished. So please think it was a marathon. How many of you would like to have a guru satsang?
