Sunday feast Lecture | ISKCON Detroit | 28 Aug 2023 | Srila Gopal Krishna Goswami

In this extended devotional lecture, Srila Gopal Krishna Goswami addresses a mixed audience of devotees and seekers, exploring how a householder can attain liberation by offering the fruits of his work to Krishna. Drawing on passages from the Bhagavad‑gītā, Nārada Muni’s dialogue, and other Vedic sources, he emphasizes the centrality of sadhu‑sanga (association with devotees), regular scriptural study, and the distribution of books as the primary means of acquiring and sharing spiritual knowledge. He explains that material wealth and daily activities should be redirected as service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and that overcoming māyā and ego requires disciplined chanting, meditation, and a conscious surrender of attachment. The lecture also touches on contemporary issues: the use of modern technology, especially artificial intelligence, to spread Krishna‑consciousness, and practical questions from attendees about maintaining unity, recognizing signs of freedom from ego, and integrating devotion into family life. Throughout, the speaker repeatedly references Prasad Raval as a guiding example of a householder devotee who lives the teachings.

ended up reading only a portion of the Bhagavad Gita. I began today in the presence of God who gave us the Vedic scriptures and feeling, I was not feeling satisfied that I've done all this compilation because there was something more lacking. And then he approaches Krishnamurti. Otherwise, otherwise, you're not able to recognize it. In fact, that's where Krishnamurti left it. And then came the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, the Indian Canticle, the Prasad Canticle in Indian words. So, we would read the translation of Text 1 and 2 The Korean chapter.

Maharaj Ji Disha inquires the Nārada Muni. "O my Lord, O great sage, kindly explain how we who are staying at home without knowledge of the goal of life may also easily attain liberation according to the instructions of the Vedas." Text 2. Nārada Muni replied, my dear king, Those who stay at home as householders must act to earn their livelihood, and instead of trying to enjoy the results of their work themselves, they should offer these results to Kṛṣṇa. Vāsudev, how to satisfy Vāsudev in this life can be perfectly understood through the association of great devotees of the Lord. Please repeat. Nārada Mūḍī replied, "My dear king, those who stay at home as householders must act to earn their livelihood, and instead of trying to enjoy the results of their work themselves, they should offer these results to Kṛṣṇa." Prabhupāda, the format for gahasta life should be dedication to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In Bhagavad-gītā 6.1, it is said, anāścata-karma-phalaṁ kāryam karma-karodhyaḥ. "Sasanta sijay yogi ja, na mera vair na chatriya." One who is unattached to the fruits of his work and who works as he is, is obligated— as he is obligated, is in the renounced order of life, and he is a true mystic. Not he who lights no fire, performs no work. Whether one acts as a brahmachari, grihastha, vanaprastha, or sannyasi, he must act only for the satisfaction of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vāsudeva, Kṛṣṇa, the son of Vāsudeva. This should be the principle for everyone's life. Nārada Muni has already described the principles of life for a brahmachari, vanaprastha, and sannyasi. And now he is describing how a brahasta should live. The basic principle is to satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Om Gāḥ. Om Gāḥ. Nārada Mūḍī, in his Advaita Kṛṣṇa, describes the rules, the duties, and behavior of individual Nārada according to her Vedic system. This lady used to be divided into 4 women and 4 men. Probably, yes, there were a pair of— yeah.— and that's what he gives in one passage and the other. In the previous chapters, how he has explained the duties of the Bhagavad Gītī ācārya and the Gītā-sātra. But now he's really explaining the duties of one in the to present the answer. Actually, on the spiritual path, you see, we are constantly inquiring, "But when is the reply from who?" That's the question. And over here we are inquiring, "What am I doing?" or "Is Prasad really—" Even that, registered, is aware. But registered, asked the question, "How can one who lives in men's family life achieve the goal of life?" And he wanted to know if religion should be based on awareness. In other words, the basic information is flawed and unbelief. He had been questioned by Julius Böhm. Julius Böhm knew that I was the one who could give the authentic information, and Julius Böhm wanted to know What is the duty based on the Vedas? They didn't want their own interpretation. They wanted to know what is the duty of God in the renunciation of life based on the Vedas. So, that is the book picture. That's the meaning. Scriptures give information. On almost any aspect of life. So what we have is knowledge, and by having that, I can fight the virus. But the other way around, I said, no, using the mind wants something cool. Okay, mind is leaving here, and I shall receive perfection, or receive the goal of life. So in this life, My wife said, "Don't mind your game. You stay at home and help my mother. My mother needs your help." So I went and helped her. We had such fun. I called you Madam Marie. My mother liked you. And instead of trying to enjoy the result of the volumes, he should offer these results to Kṛṣṇa, to all living beings. So, not only he said volumes, he said, "No, pasyāna nena iva." The government should be such that everyone has the opportunity to go and be alive before death. In the Gītā Rājaṇa, one has to think of it. In the Gītā Rājaṇa, Prabhupāda will approach Prabhupāda and make him a vyāsa. Prabhupāda will say, "What? How have you retained yourself?" So, what vyāsa is, one is like a goat. And it's not we only make art by doing a job, by doing business, or as a mother, dealing with— We have some— we— responsibilities. It's not that we have to do anything more, but a lot of time we are not doing enough anyway. He was received by a Brahmin father, Kurma. Not just as a family member, he was a really self-geneer. He converted almost the entire population to the path of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Not only was Brahmin Kurma waiting the Lord, and washed the clothes, he's in the elevator, he sleeps, a Brahmin, and then he opens the Bible and says, "I want to travel with you and stay with you. I have family, I want to go traveling with you." and I'm tired of the ego, but my thoughts are very helpful. He has helped me. He is the Buddha of those days. You don't have to tell him your name. If you want, and can't avoid it, And he, the Baba Lama, told me, "Thank you, Prasad RAVAL." "You will love me. You will always be with me. I will always be with you. You will never be separated from me." So Baba explained, "The way to be yourself was the way to love you." So that way of being was the Goddess' way. How do you use the visibility? How do you use the money that you earn? In the absence of fundamental knowledge, we have no idea of what is the world like. Majoritarian people think human life is meant for eating and having sex. It was like big money, big name, and such and such. But here now, we are the Buddhist way. You already got money, but you must know that this is not just for oneself. To enjoy, and one must also use it for helping the Supreme Mother select. So we are not born to die. We get a chance now. We see what— we get a chance now. Must one— one must to understand that Krishna is the proprietor of everything. You may say Krishna is the most powerful property provider, but not everything belongs to Krishna. Like Islam is dominant in India, you see people say, "Oh, nothing is mine, everything belongs to Krishna." But They're thinking again, and everything is gone. So, in order to be free from the law of karma and reactions, what must you do? What should you do? One, the turning. Two, spread that message of the law. To serve the to serve the Lord, serve Jaya. So, in the householder life, you have to learn, you have to learn this principle that Krishna is the real proprietor and you should use everything in service, in service to the Lord. 'Now, how do you get this knowledge?' And he said, 'Through association with devotees.' By associating with devotees, by reading the scriptures, one understands how I get this paramātmik veda. This principle of associating with devotees is emphasized in the Vedic scriptures. In a famous verse of the Chaitanya Charitamrita, it says, 'Sāraṁ sāmaṣṛṣṇaṣkṛṇaḥ, tva sādhanaḥ, āmaṇaṣṛṣṇaṣkṛṇaḥ, tva vidyāḥ.' That the Vedic scriptures say, 'Oh, you are short-lived, Vedic scriptures.' So this dissociation is very important and a vital frame. And this is the natural state of Śrīla Gosvāmī Mahāprabhu. Was formed with the purpose of giving association to the Ganesha school. The Krishna temple, these temples, Prasad RAVAL said, are spiritual hospitals with which everyone goes to the hospital to rescue and meditate on the Divinity. His peace in the atmosphere that he said that God consciousness can be given. So, Harananda lived according to Vedic principles. One who lives according to Vedic principles is called a bhīrāṣṭha. The one who doesn't follow the Vedic scriptures but believes that after the life it just must have enjoyment, It's called a— okay, okay. It's called a VIP. Online offer. Understand how the world works. So, if you listen to this, Ashram, why you have to do Ashram? Which is, you can serve the Lord, worship Lord's presence, worship Him, or interview at Ashram. So, it will be a struggle for your livelihood. You can even make millions of dollars, but you can understand, what do you borrow for sure? And this knowledge you can get from home by exposure to the books. So, this principle of association association is very important. There are two ways how the association helps, or two different ways how you can get associated. One is by going to Vedic Vedasarva. The other is through the medium of books, book distribution. From these books, for example, these books have changed the life of many of the people all over the world. The grandson, Prasad Raaval, he is really the person in mind who wants everyone to be happy based on scriptures. The way of happiness, happiness in goodness, happiness in patience, happiness in— in— oh, what is the characteristic of happiness in the world? It is potentially really being and it makes you go, "That's not fair, that's bullshit." And I mentioned more about it in the book, but it's sweet at the beginning, and bitter at the end, and it is derived from contact with the senses. And it happens in ignorance, and it's so quickly advanced, and it's so lazy, enacted, wanted. So, when you read the book, you understand all these different types of karma. Presently, society today is working with a goal of realizing, realizing, and within, and who's the ignorant? Whole society, you see, from morning to night, they only have interest in one thing, earning money. And why? Because money is a medium of sense enjoyment. If money was not a medium of sense enjoyment, then people would not have that thing. Hello! That is the passion. The thing we have is that temporary. All that which has happened are temporary. Now happiness is one of the witnesses which is in the beginning, which is in the end, and which makes one absolute, such a bliss. This self-realization should be the goal of life. And all that makes me point out that when the Prophet of Allah said that the purpose of human life should be to understand the rule of Allah , when we ask that, he comes, he approaches us slowly, and then he gives us an idea. We have examples of so many spoken devotees who came in contact with the book and they re-examined the world outside. The biggest problem with society is that people do not know more Shri Guruji's world life. This question on the booklet is exactly true. United Society of Islamities today. It was all in the story of anything gonna happen. One is knowledge of the world. So took me my Shri Vishwakripta Sadhu and my baby with both. Now, very example of that, there is a chestnut in the Gita. You read the story of a hunter called Meghai. Meghai The hunter who would, who would have to be able to end suffering and die. So, now when, by and by, the whole world of his free inquiry and Who was the person responsible for that? And when I grew up to understand, he was the youth who came out of the bushes and said, "Why don't you put it in the land of Ananda?" Why don't you have it in the land and see them suffering? And then they die. You like to get carried away, you like to get pleasure. You like to get great pleasure, and then who will open me the library? I am not able to explain. So what the reaction will be? I am not able to explain. Or even as a vegetarian, you will have to fail. Because I guess you use that to become traditional. I remember, by the other way, in the explanation, the bhakta was convinced that if you use the traditional killing animal, then he said, then how will I get my livelihood? I have a family to maintain.— and I don't mean that normally, I think, at all— word spread around everywhere that I don't mean that the big guy, the hunter, had become a great sage. Islam had grew up in him. I grew up by people would come in to open the book, open the book, basically, and to see how did the criminal start off into devotion. Then we were going to— we needed to apply for that prayer. And we had burned all the money, and I had money in hand. 'Let's visit my disciple here.' And he proceeded to go and regard his home. And he saw that— and— and— 'Relief,' I'm sorry, had been received in Hanamuni and Prasad Raaval's body. And he saw that And when he was walking, he would always say, "Wasshi" on the ground to make sure that no injury would happen. And that's the way of a great king. So, by spiritual association, even the most cruel of kings can get purified. So when it is associated with the body, we have stories in the scriptures, when it is associated with the body, we should be anxious to disengage spiritual subject matter. So, for the body, Travelers, we take advantage of the food. So, sadhu-sanga, hey boy! When sadhu-sanga, what do you do? Then he did the next word. He said, that's why the eating of the dog. We, we, you, this is the spot. Lord answered. And they are in the mood of passing their report. You learn about the purpose of humanity. You learn about the position of the Papacy. The purpose of the CNG is to go with the Hindu culture and knowledge. You are not practicing Hinduism or Shaivism. You are one of the Southern Path. His stepmother, "You want to get inside of my bedroom?" Luba took it very seriously because he was trying to get on his father's lap, and his stepmother, it was another mother, and two wives, and again, once more, favorable voice, We were in Stepford. So we were standing sitting on the father's lap and the son and the mother. Oh, this is the mother. She put him down and said, "You go and sit with your father's lap." And then he was angry. She was saying the same thing again. "You!" 'Take, die and take birth again and come back here to my womb.' So, the boy felt very insulted and he went crying to his mother. His mother had already heard of organ transplant and so she said, 'I can't help you. Your father treats me like a servant, a maid servant.' forcing his way. And Prasad RAVAL, he rejected his father's advice, his stepmother's advice. He said, "If you want to help me, help me. Otherwise, I'm going." So when Nanavati saw him, he didn't do anything. time. I don't have a proper excuse for charity. Therefore, the money, what do you want to have excuse? I give my money. So as a result of that, he pleased the Lord, and the Lord offered him benediction. And the Lord said, I don't want you to work Nanduduva said, "I was looking for Gobindakranta, but now I have found a diamond." So then, "What is the Lord? Is the Lord a real diamond?" "No, the Lord may be." Then Nanduduva said, "My dear Lord," If you want to give me a benediction, please give me the benediction that I may be able to associate with advanced Buddhists. Because in my advice, if I associate with advanced Buddhists, I go through the cycle of Buddhism and get the love of God. — So then there's another spiritual association. So spiritual association is very necessary. This spiritual association can be realized in 3 stages. You can be in See, at the end of the day, there's only interest there to create a religious war. I am not in the war to love. When you associate with the so-called great ones, once you make friendship, once you make friendship like me, you will help each other in the communal love. And in friendship, which we like, we facilitate each other's sense of enjoyment. So, so should we do with the Lord. He made us. And in social good, we bless Him back. And we never misplace compassion. So not only He has explained what a householder should do, what his life view Realizing that I'm not the proprietor of the result, who shall I make as source and have it open to me? Who is the real proprietor? Prabhupāda said Kṛṣṇa consciousness is very easy. You must recognize Kṛṣṇa as proprietor, enjoyer, and unlimited. Vishnayati book writers. But what do they tell, they don't understand that Vishnayati is a problem for book writers. They're going to put my name on another year's book writer. Scientists and others, they take pride to say, "Look at this, what technology we are creating." And technology today is moving so fast, it is progressing so fast, that it's hard to predict what the next, next requirement is. Just like the latest and the superest of technology, of scientists and engineers, The creation of artificial intelligence, I think, is the right thing. It's amazing what artificial intelligence can do. You want to write a letter, you just give certain guidelines, it will do it for you. I wanted to test that today. I printed it on the computer. You know, say something about Lord Balarama. Yes, listen, man. In one minute, you have life for the whole world. All will love you. Something about Lord Balarama will appear. The second one, both, second, third, and— Just 2 minutes ago. So, this is not ordinary achievement. It is beyond one's imagination. I don't think anyone ever thought that a day would come when you just speak into the computer, you get your output. Mostly you are interviewing doggies. So, the intelligent person will say, the Polish person will say, "Look at her, look at her." Just how I would go, "Sigh," and turn around. But intelligent person will say. But the brain to do all this is a confession. If a saint has the intelligence of feeling, or if a saint has the intelligence of thinking that this has been given by God, intelligence, should have the intelligence of thinking that God is the provider and the source of everything material and spiritual. I'm so grateful. So the intelligent person gives gratitude to God very readily. So the scientists are being greedy, able to create artificial intelligence because they have something known as a brain. We don't have that in Intelligence. And this is provided by whom? Our God. God is the ultimate provider of everything. We often say, "Meditation is rich with oil." So, who put the assets on the earth? It was God. So, A priyasa, meaning a kind of— that requires both the force and intelligence, and the emotional use of those resources for Baba's sankirtan and bhakti. And they enjoy and he has brothers. He really enjoys that. The Lord enjoys the devotees who serve Him. We may come into a kirtan in the temple, but Prasad RAVAL enjoys it. They are very happy. When we were born, they greeted the Lord with love, 'Hee Hee' . That was He loved it. Often we would have a devotion, food, flowers, crucifix, warm water. This is how I would have it. The scientists who walk behind this, behind this, I can really tell you, Spiritual knowledge. Look at God. He has created the latest invention. Alex will tell you. When the computer was first brought in, nobody could read or write. And they would come with these chips, small chips, tied up with nails, and you can't score. I came out of of data. And now with artificial intelligence, many places it's being used, and we can expect something, a miracle. But this is all being done because Krishna is the soul of intelligence. This is the thing that we are even very much focused. Like Krishna, he gave such powerful instructions. So, Mahāprabhu, he understands that Krishna's book is book of absolute devotion. If we just take Krishna's book, But you don't demonstrate that in action, then that is not proper. So, Arjuna says, "When there is no worship of Sadhu, then Sadhus are only interested in repeating the words of the people who die." A genuine Sadhu accepts the world for its people. Krishna says, There's no truth higher than this. I tell you, there's no truth higher than this. So, the gentleman, Prasad Raaval, lives in his house in Andheri and hears about Krishna Leela, Ram Leela, hears about the inconceivable success of the— if you look at the Bhagavad Gita, Lord, you can see that Krishna appeared before him and his parents there. Vishnu has not been able to turn around. He is possessed in that. He is religiously inclined. So for God, nothing is impossible. He can appear in half man, half-life. The matured yogi sees that beautiful half-man, half-life. He says, look at these foolish people. They believe that it's going to be like that, half, half-man. So go out there and nothing is negative. They both love us, they need us, I tell you. So everybody is told this. Very holy. He here for the glory of the Holy Name, the glory of the Supreme Lord. He and how to serve the Supreme Lord. How long we are served when we change the spirituality. And like Lord Nithyananda Maharaj said, one should not become a father or mother or a teacher They get highly dependent on the path of spirituality. Swami Giri has this point. He gives this point for his children also. And therefore we see that as a devotee, Prasad RAVAL has been very worried about, of the children to be trained spiritually.— put into homeschooling, stay home, walk to school, this, that, the other. If you did what you had to do to try it, and if you were a very successful child, thank you, Gordon. Good night. Peace. Put it into people's heads at home. What is it? So the samurai, he is surprised and asks the question. The question is, "How can we who are living in the house of the Rashtra attain perfection or the goal of life, be enlightened life, based on the Vedic knowledge, based on the Vedic teaching?" and then how we fight. And then how to love my Lord and Srimad-Bhagavatam and realize that Krishna is the enjoyer, not me. And how do you get that knowledge? By associating with devotees. So, associating with devotees or reading Books, it is my absolute joy. I said earlier, it works. As these books have reached the lives of millions of people all over the world, Prabhupada books got translated in 16 languages of the world, and all over the world people are reading the Bhagavad Gita. Prasad RAVAL, who guides me, all this knowledge, who reminds me. So he is socially devoted, a very devoted being, socially with people through whom he hears about the Lord's goodness. That's really— his teachings is small, and the Lord's purity I should be grateful to be given the opportunity to serve him. So, association with him is the most important. Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna. I'm sorry I have a sore throat today. My Navy is doing the best to distract them. In the sense that more and more forms of physical enjoyment, more and more being in an area where you might get easily get distracted. Is attracted. And how can you escape that? You can avoid that by engaging in devotional service. Just like Kṛṣṇa says, devī-devaṣṇa-māyāmām, devaṣṇa-māyāmām, and vṛkṣṇa-kṛṣṇa. This means only energy of mind. This means that when you overcome passion, The hope that Buddha's awareness will be long forgotten. So, we should do shinrin, we should stay on the spiritual path. You know, chant around, read a book, and constantly study with the buddhi. That will give you the spiritual strength to defeat Maya. Maya is that tool of illusion. Historically, 500 years ago, there was a devotee called Haidak, who is a teacher now in our guru line, who My lady tried to tempt me, but I denied. My lady appeared as a poor prostitute, but I, by the look of her, rejected her. But she appeared for love and sympathy. And it will be the future Lord Mahārāja. What? The thought would not be permitted. So, if standing on Hare Kṛṣṇa has more strength than lying with a man, what would it be? So much standing. I don't take a standing. This is Prasada Prabhupāda's position. Then we can't defeat Maya. Maybe if you are fixed about the devotion, then Maya can be defeated. Myself to be humble. So what did he meant to me? He meant to me that you think you, you are better than me. You are ego, all like the snake. And I'm the lizard. But he meant to me I think I really had no work because, you know, that's the Krishna Dasa coming out of me. No one ever take my name. Rather than take my name, all your work will disappear. So we don't look for work. We don't look for prestige. We are only going to serve. Of the Lord and obey the voice of the Lord. I went to Lord Ramakrishna. So, eventually, even the moon, moon of everything, is there in all of us. Other people, they don't understand it. You want to act in such a way, heart and pride. Even they can help you to get a lot of money. I'm sure you know that. I have no words to explain. But Lord, please be mindful of that. If you do not, we may walk on the narrow street— my capability of thinking. I'm so good. So he will leave me. I will leave off all respect for him, not expecting anything in return. Yes? Guruji, what are the symptoms that one can What are the symptoms one can feel if I have become free from ego, pride, and greed? Because somebody may be doing service and doing lot of donation, but is it that guarantee that one has become free from these things? When the knowledge is born, when the knowledge is born, knowledge begins. When you read a book, when you read a million books, you're reading. Sometimes you see people who are so, who are so ill-read. Which is the reality of both of us. But the Bible always gives us a bit of hope and gives us a big, big, big sound of music. Thank you very much. See you soon. See you. Before they had established. And Lord Jesus was so pleased, he thought that he, as a Buddha, he can do the job of the Spirit. He was keeping the road. So when the Lord speaks, there is really no enemies for him. The Lord is very Seriously, but still, CPR is a frustrating choice because mind is to help, help us. We are her children, so she's emotionally damaged because of the worry of the loss. So the mind is— you can't even be trapped by it. It is inable. To have. And when we tell him, he was very proud. My name is Robert Shulman, but we say you, but we say you breathe in, you breathe out. So my other side of the tent, we are big. We don't want any show. Supported you the whole evening. There were, there were— we, we— so I want to show how we must engage in devotion, how we must stand near the Lord. You're fully protected, protected, and the whole evening is today as powerful as it was 40 years ago. If we take shelter of Vedic literature, you will always be protected from the attack of Maya.
In today's topic, it was discussed about using whatever you— activities that you do, work by the world, to use for Krishna. But reality is that we are so much attached to the money or assets it's like a magnet, and it is not easy to part away hard-earned or not hard-earned money for using Krishna. So how one can do that?
To be Kali Yuga, one really has to move in strongly, especially convinced that the Lord is really the most practical, not just lip service, and we demonstrate by our actions, then hopefully, protected from the Lord. Actually, the law of karma is so strict that even if You would say, "I'm a good man. I don't harm anyone." That's wrong. Everybody tries to come to get exploited in our realm with no idea. They're like prisoners, and if they wanted to be punished, they would say, "I don't want to be punished."— attachment to family.— and I am going to guide you in the sadhana of what is next. I am going to be your health practitioner. What is that? The attachment can be given a final throw in the body. Who are not attached to their position. So, Sadhguru, you must say, "My dear Lord, my health, my wife, my children, all my assets is really, really all for you, dear Lord." If you broke the material attachment, if you broke the body, devotion, everything, they would also realize that, my dear Mother, that's where your attachment originated. Oh, they teach you, you return in the night.
Prasad, in my last class in Canada, I asked you a question that how can we maintain the unity, how can we develop that quality that we can maintain the unity, and you answered that in a very nice way that we should keep Krishna in the center. Then the next question is then, how can we keep constantly Krishna in the center so that we can be united forever, or at least—
If you are chanting your rounds regularly, then this chanting will give you spiritual strength. And if you have that spiritual strength, then you can believe in the principle of unity. Listen to Lord Buddha, Pujya Sahib. Pujya Sahib is a who performed greatest virtues. After a long time, the Lord told them, "My dear Prasad Raaval, I am very pleased with all of you." Right? And pleased with all his brothers who was in one organization, what he wants to discover. They could ask him anything and he would do that. Maybe we can get the most progress in unity, a lot of people, yoga, bhagavad-gītā, these aspects, in a university that is divided before. And, ultimately, the strength of the country
