Teachings Of Lord Rishabhdev | SB 5.3 - 12 May 1991 - Toronto - Gopāl Kṛṣṇa Goswāmī

In this lecture, the speaker presents a comprehensive overview of Vedic teachings concerning Lord Vishnu’s incarnations, focusing on Lord Rishabhdev as a principal avatar. He explains the scriptural criteria for recognizing an avatar—principal (bodily) and marginal (activities) characteristics—and critiques modern misuses of the term. The talk emphasizes the purpose of human life as devotional service (bhakti-yoga) to attain spiritual happiness, contrasting it with material pursuits and the inevitable miseries of birth, disease, aging, mental agitation, and material nature. The speaker underscores the importance of scriptural authority, the soul’s identity beyond the body, and the necessity of associating with spiritually advanced persons (mahātmās) and chanting the holy names, especially the Hare Krishna maha‑mantra, as the primary means to purify the heart and connect with the Divine. Practical instructions are given: regular temple attendance, chanting, reading scriptures in various languages, offering vegetarian food as Krishna‑prasāda, and maintaining disciplined lifestyle. The lecture also addresses the responsibilities of parents and spiritual teachers to guide disciples toward Godhead, warns against superficial religious practices, and calls for sincere adoption of Krishna‑conscious principles.

Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya. Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya. Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya. Today I'm going to present you information about Lord Vishnu as we understand from the Srimad Bhagavatam. In the Vedic scriptures it is explained that the incantations of the Lord can be recognized on the basis of certain characteristics that make people that. In the Vedic scriptures, there is complete information about the internal incarnation of the Lord. It is said that just like one cannot count the atoms that come and go out of the window, over 1 lakh pounds, the weight of an ocean. Similarly, to count exactly the various incarnations of Lord Buddha would number to be almost 10,000. But generally in the scriptures there is information about the major incarnations of the Lord Buddha, and one of them is be given to the Lord and King Rishabhadev. Rishabh means his son felt the best. So King Rishabhadev was the emperor of this planet. He was the son of King Narmi. King Narmi and his wife's name was Merudev. So King Narmi could see that this boy was very popular with all the citizens in his kingdom. And being a seer, he also manifested these symptoms by which he came to see this boy was not ordinary. So he gave him the name Rishabdev. And as I said, Prishupli means deep bath. King Prishupli laid down God-madness to Princess Jayanti, and he had 100 sons. He produced 100 sons. The eldest of the sons was named Bharata. So King Visva Deva, he gave very important instructions to his hundred sons, and actually those instructions are frankly for the benefit of entire humanity. As King Visva Deva was the incarnation of the Lord, even his sons were not ordinary. They were fully enlightened. And convinced about the truth of life. But still he presented these teachings because the teachings of Śrīla Bhāgavata Mahāprabhu are for the benefit of entire humanity. Just like Arjuna asked Kṛṣṇa so many questions in the Bhāgavad-gītā. Actually, Arjuna is the eternal companion of the Lord. But Arjuna was seemingly put in this position when he was before them. Hence the opportunity was created by which Arjuna could ask questions, the answers of which could benefit the entire human society. Similarly, we also see that Prasad RAVAL, the emperor of this planet, But just died 5 young Brahmin boys with Him, and thereby a situation was created where Śrī Kṛṣṇa Gosvāmī had the opportunity for residing in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. So in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam we obtain information about all the avatāras of the Lord. As a result, there is no need to speculate about the various avatars of the Lord. The avatar or incarnation of the Lord can be ascertained on the basis of two characteristics: principal and marginal. Principal characteristic refers to the bodily description of the incarnation And lājna refers to the activities that he was engaged in. Just like, for example, in the case of Śrīvini Mahāprabhu, it was, it was predicted that the Lord will appear as one who is golden in complexion and as one who will always be chanting the names of the Lord. So golden in complexion refers to the sinful characteristic. And is one which can be made from the Lord making reference to His manifold activities. So we do not accept just anyone as an avatar. These days it is very common for so many people to claim that they are avatars. If you go to Haridwar or Rishikesh, in almost every ashram the word 'avatar' has been used. Everyone is playing with an avatar. Somebody does some magic, produces some dust, produces a piece of gold, and it follows their will and avatar, the new avatar. So when we talk about picture days, when we talk about the avatar and explain to the Bhagavatams, please note that it may not refer to avatar as we claim in society, as we keep deciding today, to mean that genuine avatar. So, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's teachings can be applied for the entire human society. Of course, we do not have the time to summarize all of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's teachings in a half an hour lecture or a 45-minute lecture, but we shall attempt to list his important teachings. Nāgānudeha deha vājam loke kastam kāma asmita bhūya mīyam. Tabhū devyam puṣupi yeenaḥ tatvam śiva yeenaḥ marmaṇaṁ bhokya manayā. Manuḥ Kṛṣṇa Deva in this very famous verse of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam is giving his sons instructions about the activities that they should pursue in the human form of life. Manuḥ Kṛṣṇa Deva in this verse is saying that those who have accepted this human body He should not work day and night just for gratifying his senses, but rather he should use his rare human body to engage in activities of devotional service. And by engaging in activities of devotional service, one becomes spiritually satisfied and happy. So this is very important. We are all searching for happiness. Those who engage in full-time devotional service, they are searching for happiness. Those ministers who have come to the Hare Krishna Temple and they come on a regular basis, they are searching for happiness. And the gross materialist people would you not think it fit to come to the temple? They are also searching for happiness, isn't it? So basically, we have a situation in society where everyone is searching for happiness. But the question is, how can happiness be obtained? Prasad RAVAL, a great devotee of the Lord, has explained in the Bhāgavatam, na te vinim sādatraṇim viviṣyūṇu. That people do not know through which means happiness can be realized. So Maharaj Yudhishthira is explaining in his teachings to his son that if this human form of life is used for practicing spiritual austerity, austerity for the pleasure of the Supreme Lord, Then this will result in realization of spiritual happiness. We should not think that if we were to take your spiritual path, follow Prasad RAVAL's guidelines, avoid these so-called sources of material pleasure that my society identifies with, then we will become losers. That understanding should not be there. There must be the understanding that when you give up something superior, there will be the realization of something higher. That would give spiritual pleasure. One can only give up something when you get something superior. Just like in a mature situation, if you have a job, you only give up the job if you get another job with a higher salary. If you gain one particular type of business, you will need to switch to another business to gain a better business opportunity. So material activities can be given up only once one is exposed to some superior activity. So the superior activities that one can engage in are activities in connection with the Supreme Lord. Also, the purpose of this very human life, as explained by Mahārāja Viśṣṇudāsa, is to link ourselves up with the Supreme Lord. This is the meaning of religion. Today we have a situation in society where so many people are talking about religion, but unfortunately they do not know what is real religion. Just like we planned for a few months ago, there was a survey done in United States And people were asked, what is the dear most thing to you? And surprisingly, or not surprisingly, or 50% of the people said the dear most thing that came to them in life is love of God. So this is very, very refreshing, very encouraging. But do people know what is God consciousness? You may see 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 in the United States, for example, or in some cities. But are people understanding the real teachings of the scriptures? So the important point is this, that we must accept the teachings of the scriptures as they are, and then we will be able to take advantage of this great spiritual wisdom. In the Bhāgavad-gītā also, Kṛṣṇa has explained that one who doubts the value of the scriptures, he is acting completely insincere and faithless. He must be ignorant of ignorance. And one who doubts that even through the scriptures he cannot find happiness now or he cannot find happiness later. You cannot be happy independent of the word of God. What is the meaning of religion? Dharma is dakṣinārtas praniṣāṁ. Religion means the words of God. And the words of God are contained in the revealed scriptures. We, for example, in the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, follow the Vedic scriptures. And in the Vedic scriptures we get complete information upon the position of the Supreme Entity, His relationship with the Supreme Lord, and how the mission of life can be accomplished. Regarding our identity, the Vedic scriptures explain, this body is just a temporary covering for the spirit soul. The Vedic scriptures explain our real identity. That's why we sang the Brahman. You have to establish your identity at the immigration. Only then are you permitted entry into that country. So similarly, we must cultivate this spiritual knowledge which helps us to understand our real identity. Unfortunately, in the present set of our society, in the present set of education curriculums around the globe, No attempt is being made to reveal one's true identity. That information can be obtained from the Vedic scriptures and the shrubs of genuine teachers of spiritual knowledge. Third, the indication in the opening chapters of the Bhagavad-gītā is that the real identity of the self is the spirit soul., and the body is just a covering. Just like you and I, we discard our old clothes and we wear new clothes. Similarly, the soul leaves one body and takes on another body, and the type of body that a soul will go to realize will be determined by the type of activities that you have executed. In other words, that is going to be statement from the Bible, based on how we act, our next life will be decided. So this is exactly the point that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was making. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was saying that this human form of life which we today have, has been obtained after very, very long struggle. 18,400,000 different species of life, of which only 400,000 are considered to be human species. So after evolving through all these missions of birth, he will ultimately realize the human birth. And the purpose of the human birth is adhāṇḍa-bhūma-vidyāṣṭha, to establish your relationship with God, to understand who you are, to understand where you are coming from, to understand where you are headed for. So Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhiraṇa throws that mālvidaṇḍaṇi. "Dear son, now that you have got this human form of life, please do not waste it. Use the human form of life for the purpose of cultivating of spiritual knowledge, for the purpose of cultivating knowledge by which you can free yourself from the entanglement of birth and death." Now, so then Mahārāja Viśvadeva said, How one can get into this consciousness? He told his son, please take the opportunity to serve mahātmā. All of you, I am sure, must have heard of the word mahātmā. But mahātmā, according to the scripture, means one who is fully engrossed in serving the Supreme Lord. Mahātmā pramāṇaṁ tāpeta vrajaṇaṣṛkāraḥ. One is fully engrossed in serving the Lord, he is described as a Mahātmā. So Maharaj Prasād RAVAL has first established to his sons, don't waste the human form of life, okay. When he is busy talking, he wants to upgrade, it's better to use the words, don't use it like cats and dogs. Why? Because cats and dogs and other animals seem to concentrate all their energies in just activities of eating, sleeping, defending, and mating. So Mahāprabhu established that we should go beyond that. Now, after having established, once you go beyond that by performing spiritual austerities, Mahāprabhu actually points out the importance of serving Mahātmā. Mahātmā, the those who are fully engrossed in serving the Supreme Lord. So in the Vedic scriptures, Great emphasis is placed upon obtaining the association of those who are spiritually advanced and serving those who are spiritually advanced. For example, in the Gītā, chapter 8, verse 6, it says, sāṁ siddha-kāraṇa siddha-skarlaṣāṁ prakāya nāvamāṣra, nāvamāṣra. Nāvamāṣra means One eleventh of one second. So, that, simply through that. So the Vedic scripture is said that even if you have the opportunity for associating with a saintly person for one eleventh of one second, you can be blessed with the spiritual wisdom. And that is, you can be blessed with the knowledge that Kṛṣṇa is the cause of all causes and that the purpose of human life is to engage in service of the Lord. Nārada Muni is well known. He needs no introduction. So Nārada Muni, as you know, has been the spiritual master of many exalted devotees, Rūpa Mahāprabhu, Vyāsudeva, etc. So Vyāsudeva, on one occasion— Vyāsudeva is the compiler of the classic Vedic literature. Sabyāsa wanted to know how did Narada Mūsha obtain such an elevated birth, you understand. Sabyāsa not believed that the way how in his previous birth he was just the son of a maid servant and he had the opportunity to listen to the teachings of the great sages and see the remnants of good stuff left by the great sages. And as a result of that opportunity to associate with the great sages, he obtained such an elevated birth in which he was fully engaged in constantly serving the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So Maharāja Prahlāda said, "Please engage in service of the great souls and associate with them." That is why we request all of you to come to the temple every Sunday. Because during the week all of you are very busy with your worldly duties, going to your office, going to school, study, housewife, evening, bring up children, etc. But if you come to the temple every Sunday, greet the Deities, take part in the kirtan, listen to the spiritual sermon, then again you are reminded that My mission in life is not just to imitate the animals, but my mission in life is to keep love of God. This is a verse from the Bhagavad Gītā, and in this verse the Supreme Personality of Godhead is telling us the following: You always come The influence of the illusory energy known as maya is very difficult. And many times we are preaching, people come up to us and say, Swāmi Ji, to get rid of maya is very difficult. Ah, they tell us all the time. So Kṛṣṇa Himself is saying that. Kṛṣṇa Himself says to free oneself from the influence of the three modes is very difficult. So you may say that if it's so death-straw, then what are you doing over here? Why are you telling us to take the devotional service? So now in this straw, Kṛṣṇa is presenting a solution. That is, if he surrenders to Him, ānaṁ yato 'abhāve, then he can overcome the influence of the illusionary energy. So Kṛṣṇa is telling us that we should surrender to Him. In the Bhāgavad-gītā, many different types of yoga have been discussed: karma yoga, jnāna yoga, dhyāna yoga, sankhya yoga. The word yoga is something that you are all familiar with. But in the end, Kṛṣṇa presents bhakti-yoga as a means to achieve the goal of life. He perfectly states, tara-pranāprajnāya mām ekaḥ karmāyaḥ maṁ svaṁ svaṁ vākumaya mokṣanīm āśisvāt. Give up everything and just surrender to Me, and I will protect you from all sinful reactions. So the question then arises, what does it mean to surrender to Kṛṣṇa? What does it mean in practical life? Obviously, when people are situated in a household or ashram, their families, etc., they would like to know How can we surrender to Kṛṣṇa in the situation that we are? So surrendering to Kṛṣṇa means that you accept Kṛṣṇa's teachings. You accept the essence of the Vedic teachings. And if you accept the essence of the Vedic teachings, then we can make progress on the spiritual path. Maharāja Prabhupāda has told us, Pāñjanaḥ, "You want to another good day with God, but you then you are thinking about me." This was the funny in the Ātmānirvāsan that we are to think about. Ananda Kṛṣṇa says, "One who engages in activities similar to the animals, he is a madman." Prasada RAVAL. Why does he say that? Because Ananda Kṛṣṇa explains, one who is engaged in sensual activities of sense enjoyment, he is definitely going to realize another material body. You may even take a birth as the Transcendent Light of space, still you cannot free yourself from the basic misery of life. The Bhagavan Kṛṣṇa is saying, presently the foolish entity has a body which is giving him pain, And by engaging in all the sensual activities, again a body will be aligned which will give nothing but pain. So sometimes people want to know, "Where is the pain?" They say, "I am very healthy, the doctor has given me a healthy certificate. Where is the misery? I see no misery. My business is booming, I have a good family." Good health, I don't see any trace of misery at all. So these Vedic scriptures explain that misery is experienced by everyone through 7 different agencies. One of them is birth. Isn't it a child always comes out of the mother's womb crying? Then there is disease. Doesn't matter how strong you may be, disease doesn't leave you. Just like few days ago we read how the President of United States has missed a heartbeat or something, isn't it? He missed a heartbeat and he had to have one bomb over the roof. Because it's the President of United States. So even if you are the President of United States, you still must get disease. You may have the best doctors attending to you, like President Bush had, still he had to be hospitalized, he had to go through a cure, isn't it? So it doesn't matter who you are, you have to— Disease is unavoidable. Then old age. People— nobody likes to get old, but we have to encounter old age. And ultimately, nobody likes to die, but they also have to die. But that's not enough. If it was just these 4 things, you could probably conclude, oh, life is not so bad. But there are 3 other types of miseries that are, um, equally equally harmful or equally unpleasant. One is the misery caused by the mind. The mind is always troubling us, isn't it? The mind is troubling us in so many different ways. When you hear of some relative or friend who has died, the mind begins to bother you. When you see that somebody else has made some better economic progress than you, You have cynicism, the mind bothers you. Like these days, everyone is in serious complaining about the economic recession, isn't it? So whether you get it in life or in the mood, they get very bothered. The mind is bothering you. So the mind bothers us in many different ways. Then there are other entities that bother you, and then there is material nature that bothers you. Material nature hits us through drought, floods, and so many other things. Sadhguru Maharaj has said that as long as you have a material body, you will have to encounter these different types of diseases and these different types of miseries. Therefore, Maharaj is saying that one who engages in these sinful activities of sense enjoyment is a foolish entity. He is not considered A wise man, one who engages in activity of self-enjoyment, is not considered to be a wise man. He is considered to be a foolish individual. So Muhammad Rishab-e-Ahmadi trained up his 100 sons in the rule of life. Muhammad Rishab-e-Ahmadi has said, one should not become a father, one should not become a spiritual master, Till he can take his descendants back to Godhead, until he can take his disciples back to Godhead. So Maharaj was so fair, he gave the classic example of how to have children, how children have to be educated. Today we have children, we give them the best education, we try and send them to the best schools, Harvard, Yale, whatever. We encourage them to get the best degrees. We get our daughters married, but we never worry about telling them what is the goal of life, isn't it? We never worry about telling them how to free themselves from the entangles and the clutches of birth and death, the clutches and burdens that are miserable clutches to be in. But we don't think that to be our duty. That is wrong. Similarly, people become churchgoers and But they don't consider it their duty to tell the disciples how to be of useful activity. Just like about 3 months ago, I was with one great prominent spiritual master in India, in a temple in Vizagaram. So this spiritual master was telling me, he was listing to me names of many of his famous disciples. Listed one Birla, one this, one that, about 20 big industrialists. He said, "They are all his disciples." So I said, "Very good." I said, "Wonderful." But I said, "Are your disciples following any spiritual standards? Have you given them the minimum rules like chanting, taking vows, or even the principle of 'It is not' that they all know?" So I said, "What's the aim of forming them disciples? If you are not going to tell them how to go back to Godhead, what are you doing?" Hello, students of Mahāprabhu. Then Mahāprabhu came and said, One should not become a spiritual master till he can deliver his descendants, his disciples back to Godhead. And one should not become a father or mother till they can send their children back to Godhead. So all of you as parents have as your duty not only to give them education, not only eventually get them settled in life, but also get them settled spiritually. Also get them settled spiritually. Now some of you may say, Swamiji, it's not so easy to get those birds to settle spiritually. You know, we are trying our best, we tell them to come to the temple, but they say, "Daddy, I'm not interested. I want to go to a baseball game or the movies or hockey or whichever." Isn't it? I'm sure many of you have that experience. You try your best to get your kids to come and they say, "No, no, no, there are better things to do than this." They think that religion is only for the old people. For the youngsters, there are better careers to Now, how has that situation come to exist? That situation has come to exist because when the time was right for giving them spiritual education, we were too busy socializing. We were too busy socializing, leaving the kids to the care of the television tube and the video and so on. So just like an English There was a study done about 4 years ago, and the study was done to analyze the impact of a video on juvenile children. And the study concluded that since the widespread use of the video, juvenile crime has gone up. Why? Because parents leave their children to the care of a video machine and get busy socializing. So the children develop all bad habits, and so when they get grown up of their own, they continue in crime. So when the time for the growth came of feeding of the children and educating the spiritual life, we were too busy planting them. Sorry. And so as we got them grown up, they were grown up in wrong habits. And so, so as parents, it is our duty to educate them. And the perfect example we have is Mahārāja Krishnadeva, how he instructed his sons about the goal of life. So Mahārāja Krishnadeva, after instructing his sons about the goal of life, he says, "Now I have retired from my kingly duties." And he installed his elder son Bharata on the throne, and he left his kingdom. Today, would you have it politics Nobody wants to give up his chair even in an old age, isn't it? Of course, in Canada it's not so bad, but in India you see the politicians, they can't even walk, they need 2 canes to walk. Still they don't want to get out of their position, isn't it? Because everybody thinks, 'Now I leave the country, it's going to fall apart.' So, um, Rudrakṣṇa Deva gave example of a completely detached king. He trained up his son, put him as a son on the throne, and he started traveling around like an Avadhūta. He started traveling around like an Avadhūta. And he was walking naked. And Maharaja Veda, as I told you earlier, is an incarnation of God. And the stool and urine from his body, he had so much of aroma and fragrance that up to 80 miles distance, the fragrance from his stool and urine was spread. It was such a— it had no other aroma like it because he was a God playing the role of an ordinary person. Um, so, and eventually Maharaj Rishabh Dev's blessed body left this planet. So we have presented to you today the teachings of Maharaj Rishabh Dev in a nutshell to bring home to all of you the great message that is contained in our Vedic literature. In our Vedic literature, there is a storehouse of information, but unfortunately we don't seem to take the trouble to cultivate that storehouse. And as a result, we conclude the scriptures are outdated, they are old-fashioned, they are not for the modern day and era. God They're not from the modern-day 20th century, and we think that the scripture are only for the old people in our world, and it's wrong. The scriptures contain eternal wisdom for the entire humanity, and if you want to solve the problems of society, you're not going to solve the problems of society by doing some patchwork arrangements. In the material world, if everybody is making patchwork arrangements We have had conflict to make some massive arrangement between Centre and the Opposition, but we don't believe in patchwork arrangement. We don't believe in false benefit. We believe in real benefit. And for this real benefit, we will give a non-anglophobic second chance in India. So this mission, so this mission of the movement Friends of All the Worlds is presenting only one message. And then he suggests, you now have a rare human body, don't waste it, don't use it like a cat and dog, but please give up the sinful tendencies of ill perception, calculation, meaning, gathering, etc. Give it up. But you can only give it up when you have some severe association. And that severe association is the chanting of the holy names of the Lord. If you chant the holy names of the Lord, you get the opportunity to associate with the Lord. Why? Because the holy names of the Lord are not different from the Lord. And when you associate with the holy names of the Lord, you are actually associating with the Lord. So you may want to question, what is the benefit of chanting? Because unless we have a benefit, why should we engage in it? We don't want you to take anything blindly. We don't want you to— we don't want you to follow this process without questioning. So the advantage of chanting is by chanting the names of Kṛṣṇa, the heart becomes cleansed of the innumerable misgivings that are there. Due to the unlimited material desires and misgivings, we are not entitled to worship God. Due to ignorance, I am thinking that this bodily sense pleasure is the highest standard of happiness. From darkness we have to come to light. From ignorance we have to come to knowledge. Obviously, that is only feasible if you make the effort. This is God's love story for the sense organs now. Do you make the effort to destroy ignorance? Jāgad mārtiṣṭhas, personal association of Kṛṣṇa people, then he will come under the influence of light. And when you are under the influence of knowledge, you will see everything in the correct perspective. Just like in the night everything looks one, but in the daytime you can see things in their proper perspective. So one who is spiritually enlightened can see things in a proper perspective. Therefore, one is on the spiritual path. He tells that even God himself always says, 'And This is the characteristic of a saintly personality. He doesn't want to inconvenience even one ant. Many times people say, I don't want religion because in the name of religion so many religious wars have taken place, and in the name of religion so many people have died. Some people say that. I've met people all the time who say that. So my answer is that these people do not know what is religion, because one is the He will not kill anyone. He will not harm anyone. He will not even go to harm an ant. But unfortunately, because people do not know what is religion, so under the garb of religion, evil is actually going on. So we want to request all the learned friends who have come here to please take advantage of this opportunity. Gautam Rishi's teachings. Please be rest assured that when you give up inferior activities in favor of superior spiritual activities, you will not be a loser. We hesitate in giving up our inferior activities because we don't have confidence that if I give it up, I will be happy. Isn't it? Because of this lack of confidence, we don't take to the spiritual life. So I request to all of you is Please experiment. We are not getting you to make any commitment. Just like before this class, I was being interviewed by a few social media students. So one of them asked, when people join your movement, do they take a contract? Do they sign a contract? I said, no! People come on their own, they go on their own. We have no contract, no anything. All of your luggage will stay at home. There is no fear of any contract. All right, my dear viewers, please start practicing the Kṛṣṇa conscious principles at home. I know that many of you are doing, but many of you are not. Those who are doing, in all respects, they get indulgence. Those who are not doing, you certainly start doing. Number 3, you have to do. Start chanting the name of Kṛṣṇa. There are many mantras, there are many scriptures. Mantra means a chant that can give you peace of mind. Because of all the mantras, the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is described as the mahā-mantra or the principal mantra. Mantra may— So, by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, there was this personal satisfaction that He was divine. And He can see how all over the world, in countries where people know not one word of Hindi or Sanskrit or English, But they chant Hare Krishna and now they feel totally satisfied. So everyone should take to the chanting process. Does not matter how busy you may be, you can find time to chant. Many times people say, I'm so busy. So I ask these people, okay, how many hours you watch television every day? How many hours you speak on the telephone every day? How many hours you spend in reading all these magazines? So everyone says yes, yes, you're right, So if there's a problem, there's a way. You just have to determine in your mind that time. You just have to reduce your exposure to the material and the dust particles from the television in your house. That's all. And you'll find your sight will take in charge. Then that's not the end of it. Even all of you educated people, the literacy rate in this country is almost universal, isn't it? I'm sure all of you know how to read and write. If you can't talk, you might not be able to read and write. Not reading. So you can read and write, so why can't you read the words of God? What is higher than reading Krishna? So Bhaktivedanta Swami Prasada, he has translated nearly 100 books, Bhagavad-gītā, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Caitanya-caritāmṛta. We have these books in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, English, any language, Russian, Japanese, any language you can speak. Read these books. You must know what the scriptures are saying. People are not able to break down. And at home, we would request all of you to have very healthy, nutritious food. But nutrition means prāṇī-kṛṣṇa, means Kṛṣṇa-prasāda. Kṛṣṇa-prasāda means the mercy of the Lord. Kṛṣṇa-prasāda means food that is approved by Kṛṣṇa. So offer your vegetarian food to Kṛṣṇa and it becomes Kṛṣṇa-prasāda. And you read Kṛṣṇa Prasāda. Then you get the mercy of the Lord and the prasāda theory for your life and company. And once a week associate with the devotees. That's all. That's all you have to do. It's not so difficult, isn't it? Is it difficult? It's not difficult. It is easier than forgetting God. You know, I met few friends who came on to me, "Ārādhā-kāṇḍu." Now of course we are not here promoting their philosophy. But I'm just saying, these 5 years, they go to their mosque for namāz at 4:20 every morning. You know that? So they have, these other religions, so much discipline in some cases. So why should we not force ourselves to discipline? This concept that Hinduism is so liberal, anybody can do his own thing, this is not Sanatana Dharma. Unfortunately, we have watered it down to such an extent that we can give announcements that slowly and very well, the dam is not going to leak. Just like in India, everyone is talking of building Lord Ram's temple and we are all playing in favor of it. But they must also be sure about accepting Lord Ram's teachings. If you have the temple but not Lord Ram's teachings, then what good is the temple? So, we imagine that Krishna's teachings, Lord Vishnu's teachings are the same. And they will survive happily in peace. Should I give a little Hindi summary also? Are there any questions from anyone? Any questions from anyone? Yes, sir. I'm sorry, huh? Yes, very good suggestion. Please sit down. Where is everyone getting up and going? Yes, I think this was a very good suggestion from Sir Prasad RAVAL. This is the time for you to watch TV and videos. We have that facility. If people want to take advantage of it, that facility is there. Should I give a final summary in Hindi also? Or there is no need? Huh? How many people want a Hindi summary also? Sure. You want it? So, I have said this so much.
