Consequently, caring for Tulsi—nurturing devotion—is essential; neglect will cause Tulsi to wither, just as devotion wanes without proper attention.

Tulsī Mārāñī is a great devotee who doesn't want to be separated from Kṛṣṇa even for a second, and she wants to always be at Kṛṣṇa's lotus feet. But she is an individual, just like the other gopīs are individuals also. She is like the gopī, but she is a devotee in her own right. She has her own identity. Therefore we worship Tulsī and not the gopīs. She is not jīvātmā. Tulsi is the devotees of the Lord, from the Lord's family. The original Tulsi expands into unlimited Tulsis. And Tulsi will only grow where there is devotion. Just like Kṛṣṇa will only manifest Himself where there is devotion. If we don't take care of Tulsi properly, then Tulsi will dry up.
