Dan Allen delivers a personal monologue praising lessons learned from Nelson Nash about using dividend-paying whole life insurance to build and control capital. He recounts that had he known earlier he would have used stock option proceeds differently, and expresses gratitude for learning Nash’s concept (accessing dividend-paying whole life policies) which changed how he approaches investments and risk.

When we get into doing these things, we all have good intentions. Like this is what we're trying to do. We're trying to make a difference. And a lot of times, because we don't know what we don't know. And at that time, both of us talked about stories where we didn't know about how we could actually control and build this pool of capital that we have control over how we use it. Even when we're sleeping our values going up. We didn't know about that. And if we did, it would make such a difference. I go back to my stock options, I would exercise those suckers as soon as they got to my target number. And I can tell you where I'd been putting that just so it would keep on growing uninterrupted after that. And that's the thing that we've been blessed now to learn about. And that's what our late mentor, Nelson Nash, he discovered it. It's a concept through a thought process. He figured it out because he had access to dividend paying whole life insurance policies that he could actually use. And it's just amazing what that man did for us. Again, wind the clock back. I wish I hadn't heard about it 20 years before I did, but man, am I blessed that I heard about it now and I've started to do something about it. And if I do an investment now, I change the risk that I'm taking.
