Two speakers (one likely Richard Canfield) discuss the Infinite Banking Concept (IBC). They state the primary downside of IBC is failing to participate or regain control of one's personal banking function. They emphasize that IBC is a banking strategy (not an investment) and serves as the foundational base for further financial growth, using a pyramid metaphor to describe its role.

Okay, given that we've had this conversation regarding this amazing concept, the infinite banking concept, what is the downside? There's got to be a downside. He leans into the microphone and goes, well, not participating. That's all that he said and that is the absolute truth because we know that someone must perform and control the banking function in your life as it relates to your needs. There are no exceptions. So the downside is not participating, not regaining control of that function.
It's exactly what you said. It's the realization that this is banking and not investing is what really helped me and I truly believe that this is the base foundation. I share in my client meetings that when you think about a pyramid, you want to have a nice broad foundation so you can build on top of it. And that is what IBC is. You build that foundation and then the world is your oyster. From there you can go as high as you want.
