Richard Canfield explains how life insurers invest the premiums they collect from term policyholders, but the returns go to mutual company owners or stock company shareholders, not to the people who actually paid in.
Is all the people at their different age blocks and they have hundreds of thousands of them paying a term premium and they're collecting pools and gobs of money every day it's coming in and they have to put that money to work just like any other institution. But they're not putting it to work for the people that own term insurance, they're only putting it to work for their participating owners. If it's a mutual insurance company, if it's a stock owned company, they're not putting that money to work for the participating owners, they're putting it to work for stockholders.
