Robin Waite explains why hourly billing caps agency earnings: you can only bill so many hours per week. Productized services break this trap by pricing based on client outcomes instead of time spent, letting agencies earn more for the same work.

If you're charging hourly rates or day rates, which most agencies do, well, you've created this natural earnings limit. You can only earn so much if you're working like 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. That's what, 160, 200 hours? So your earnings potential is capped just because of that. And yeah, you could increase your hourly rate, your effective hourly rate. But the trouble then again is like there are these dumb rules which I don't know who created them or said them, like, oh, you can only put your prices up on January 1st by maybe 5 or 10% if you're feeling really brave. Which idiot made that rule up, right? Yeah. I was doing it. That's— it's those patterns that we think that we have to sort of fall into. When you productize though, the focus isn't on what you do. You charge based on the results or outcomes of the thing that you do. So what does the client get from this? Right, right, right, right.
