CATCHING MY SALES REP LYING & STEALING (raw)

Ryan Shank discovered his sales rep was faking demos to steal commissions, using a voice changer to call himself and logging fake interactions in the CRM. The rep altered customer emails, forged call recordings, and collected paychecks for work that never happened. Shank walks through the evidence and confronts the betrayal.

All right guys, today's video is a different kind of video. It's literally criminal, actually stealing. But I— you're wasting my time, you're wasting energy, my personal money, the business's money. It's the— it's absolutely fucking crazy. It made me so mad, like I've never been like that mad. I felt violated, I felt weird inside. It's like I'm not even doing a regular vlog today, I'm literally— the whole vlog is this. The extent that you have to go through to do this, like even just talking about it, like I'm getting like emotional and I like feel weird inside. And this is just intro. I'm not gonna spoil it. I'm gonna let you guys see what happened, and then I'm gonna explain why— I don't even know why, why any human or why any person would go through this. I'm gonna let you guys see it because we actually captured it as we were going through it. I wanted to tell Kane to like turn the video off because I was like, this is not like actually something we should do, like it's not cool. But I'm kind of glad we did capture it because it was like us— it was like me literally discovering it, and then I'm like, holy fuck, is this actually happening? And then the person just ducks. But this is a sales rep that worked for me in my company to go and like fuck me over and betray me and to do this is like the absolute most insane thing in the entire world. It's like a 3-person company. Who does that? Like, how dumb do you have to be? You guys are gonna see what just happened. I'm gonna recap it. Roll the clip. But like, what just happened just now though? So where's the email from him though, but not his reply? You send him the original follow-up email. You realize what this looks like to me? I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Like, you send I sent him the original follow-up email to peter@healthcare-success, which is like legit, like to Peter. Then I see nothing else, nothing else. There's a counter-invite to this random Gmail Peter. That's like not the same Peter. Like where, I don't understand where did it go from his Peter work email to this Gmail? Like where did that happen? I don't understand why he would switch from his work email to that. The guy I just talked to had no idea about anything about marketing. He couldn't say anything about AdWords or call tracking. Referring or anything. He wasn't the right guy. And then he said the wrong guy helped. Like, that was 100% not Peter or a marketer. Like, 100%. And I don't see any calls with you and this guy in Close.io. Like, not a single call. Where— send me, send me, send me the call recording. I don't see any calls in here with you and him. Just send me— just right, right-click on the call recording and send it to me. I just don't— I'm in the lead right now. I just don't see any calls with you and him. Like, I see a left voicemail, and then like the call where Notes are, it's like all just notes, it's not calls. Like when there's calls in there, which are the green ones, and there's a call, like if you go up to the top, you see my calls, it'll be like call from Peter, right, where you transferred it, and this play call recording, like when you hover over it, there's a play recording button that you can then play, you can play the call recordings, or you can right-click it and it'll be copy link address, and then you can send out the links. I just talked to Peter, the actual Peter, you can listen to the call in there, he had no idea, it was not the same Peter, so I'm like really confused, and trying to like figure out like what just happened. It feels to me— I just want to figure out exactly what— I'm not going to say exactly what— I mean, you know what I think it just happened, but that was weird. And like, just hung up. What do you think just happened? I know what just happened. What happened? They don't know. Yo dude, guess what just happened, or I think it just 7. I'm like weirded the fuck out right now. I think just faked a demo, like got one of his buddies or someone to like pretend to be someone on a demo. I go and do the demo, I'm like already kind of skeptical. The dude didn't know anything about marketing. He like— I look on the site, he like doesn't sound like the Peter I'm looking at. Uh, I was just talking to him and like call— pretty much calling him out, and then he just like hung up. Like, what just happened was the weirdest shit ever. I was on the phone, I was already skeptical, I was asking questions. He couldn't really tell me anything. He didn't know I was like, okay, once I started thinking it, then I started asking him really technical stuff, like technical questions, and he had no idea. And I was like, well, who manages the marketing? He's like, oh, my part, you know, this other guy. And I was like, well, what's his name? And he gives me some name that's not on the website. Then once I get off the phone with him, I'm like, look, he needs to be on the call if we're gonna do this. Then I call Healthcare Success, the real company, get to Peter, and it's not the same dude. So what I think just happened is just faked the demo to get the numbers up, to get his demo numbers, he's literally stealing 'cause he like just wants to get credit for the demo. Like what the fuck? And like none of his calls to Peter are logged, so I'm like tell me one call, send me a call recording. Like how did you switch from peter@healthcaresuccess.com to this random Gmail to this dude that like— There hadn't been any calls in Close.io in like 14 days and like usually if you are scheduled 14 days out, you like 100% no-show, you don't call in early to do the demo. And then I was just talking with him and it was just 100% not him. It was like the weirdest shit ever. He was like, "I called him." He was like defending it. "I called him, oh wow, he called me." He was like just still going with it. I would be like, "All right, dude, you called me." And then we were talking about it and he just like hangs up. Let me try to call him back. I was trying to call you before I called him. I'll call you back. No answer? No, he's like not answering the phone that I just called. He's like denying it, but like, like declining the call. So like, I mean, I just like took him out of Close.io and like out of everything else. What the fuck? What the fuck is wrong with people? Dude, we're like a 3-person company. Like, steal from a big company, not me. That pisses me off so much. Good luck. Good luck. That's crazy. I mean, like, there's like 10— I mean, I'm gonna like— I mean, he should like hit me up because I feel like I gotta like— we gotta talk like HR stuff, but I want to be like, dude, like, let's just like, you can't just not— like, we gotta like part ways. You can't just like ghost forever. Like, that's not like— yeah, you can't just like never talk to me again. Like, you gotta like— I felt so— I felt it in my stomach when I was like on the call. I was like, yo, this is mad weird. And I was like, everything about it was weird. I don't know, I guess he just tried to be like, all right, I'm gonna, you know, gotta hit these numbers. I don't know, that was like super fucking weird. And now I have to like occupy brain capacity thinking about this, which sucks. Well, fuck. Uh, all right, well, that's That's Thursday. And it's like, if you didn't do anything wrong, you don't ghost me right now. You fucking try to salvage it. It's like, one, you fucked up and you're stealing, but then two, like, you're literally wasting my— like, I was like about to go on a screen share and like go through this bullshit. I mean, I knew it wasn't real. Like, I was like, I like shared my screen, but I like wasn't going into it. I was like, this is so— this is a waste. I was like, this guy is not— this is not real. He couldn't answer any of my questions. He, he had no idea about marketing. I was like, once I smelled it, I started to ask him like, I was like, tell me about how you have your keywords set up. Are you using broad match modified? Like, are you using like exact match? Like, tell me about your keyword setup. He was like, oh, you know, we do an offer, we do an offer right now. Yeah, I'm about to send the call around. Doesn't it sound like him? No, that's the voice I heard. That's why I was like, yo, you are not Peter. And then like, I'm gonna slack you, here's the call. I literally called fucking real Peter. On the demo you did. Like, there's 100% a voice changer. There's 100%. Yeah, I mean, it sounds like it. Like, have you ever met a human who sounded like that? You ever spoke to somebody who had that kind of voice come out of them? Yeah, now he's like not answering. And you were on the phone with him? Yeah, and he just updated his Gusto email address. Yeah, do you think that was him with a voice changer? Somebody from Yeah, like you don't just talk like that. Yeah, like he says things that are the same. See, I don't know how he got this. All right, so check this out. So he called Anne, like this is Anne. Anne, can I help you? Yes. All right, so that's Anne. Anne calls back. Yes, Brett, this is Anne. I got your message this morning. And she's like interested. Yes, I am interested in hearing a little bit more about You're, uh, the software. So Anne now has Twang. And then, so what was happening was, so then she set the demo, but for some reason he like dropped the O out of like Brand— I just changed it back now, so I was like, okay, maybe it was uploaded wrong. But then I went into here, which is like where we upload it from, and I like searched Prop, and it was like, it was in there, right in there. So I was like, we uploaded it right. He dropped the letter out, so it bounced from her. She never actually got it. It looks like it's on the calendar set, so that's like one. These are fucked, man. I'm telling you, this is so fucked. Oh yeah, this one. So then this dude, Chris called back. All right, so you heard the guy today, right? Hi, this is Chris. I'm happy to have you on the phone. So like he calls on 8877 and then he gets a call back on here. It says like voicemail back. He took me as a call from a freaking number. About 2-3 weeks ago, and I apologize, but it's been crazy. This is 100% fake. Okay. Hey Chris, this is Dave. This is dumb. And you know what, I'm always up to learning about new technology. I'm always up for learning about new tech. Now he just wants to— he's interested. No, no one's in— can't even comprehend. What you guys just watched. Let me explain to you a little bit about what happened. I had one sales rep that, that who this person was, and their only job was to call outbound, do cold calls, set up demos for me, pretty much literally for me to do the demos. And then I was commissioning him on when demos show up, okay? His only job, call outbound, set demos, the demos will show up. That's that's it, okay? Super like simple. It's not difficult. And people were doing it. People who were doing it legitimately were setting like 4 to 5 a day. 2 to 3 were showing up, like super easy. What you guys just watched was he was faking. He was basically calling himself, calling into our CRM, calling himself through either mass numbers or through a different number, answering it, putting on a voice disguiser, literally disguising his own voice talking to himself in these calls or leaving voicemails to himself in these calls and acting like he's the customer and he's suddenly interested. And all the voices, by the way, had his same fucking voice just with a voice changer. He had a fucking Southern drawl. Not every single lead has that same accent. Like, that's insane that you would think that you could just call in for multiple leads and think that we're not gonna know. Like, I'm not I'm not a fucking idiot, okay? Like, I've been in the game for a while. He even went through to chat me on Slack, say, hey Ryan, I got a demo. He called in early, transferred it to me, and it's him with a fucking voice changer pretending to be this customer. And so I'm Googling the customers, you know, the website. I go to the team page and I'm like, this is not who I'm talking to. You're gonna sit there and do a fake demo with the CEO, a technical demo? Like, what, are you fucking crazy? I get on the phone with him. I'm like, what the fuck was that? What was that? And he was like, what, man? He called in. And I was like, no, no, no. Where's the call in closing? Where did the customer call in? Couldn't find it. Couldn't find it. He drops the call. I'm calling him, calling him, calling him, calling. He's not answering. He's declining my calls. So then I start going into all of his calls, all of his leads, and I'm noticing that he's doing it on like multiple ones. He's changing the email addresses on our leads to these like random Gmails, all so that he can fake set demos. And then he's going to fake do a demo. With the fucking founder of the company, a technical demo, when this guy knows like hardly anything about it. He can't even talk to talk. So I guess in his not bright mind said, okay, I'm gonna get these demos to show up, it's gonna be myself, and I'm gonna get commissioned for it. Thing that pisses me off is like, I gave this dude a shot, right? I flew him into New York for an entire week, put him up at a hotel in Tribeca, bought him a laptop. I trained him, like, go like deep into training, and he's gonna sit there and then do that bullshit and like literally steal from me? That's so, so, so fucked up. Like, I've never seen that in startups ever, and I've been in the game for like 8 years, and I haven't seen that level of like thievery. It's literally theft, okay? That is like a criminal offense. You have like the chance, like you have a shot right now, and you get exposure, and you're like part of a startup that's like in Techstars, and then that's what you're gonna sit there and do? Like, why would you fuck do that? Like, I don't understand. I don't even want to think about this and occupy, like, brain capacity, but it's like, you can't do that. And I don't want him to do it to anyone else. So, like, we're figuring out what to do right now, but, like, like, it's so fucked up. And, like, I'm glad we could share it with you. Hopefully, like, we can prevent the next company from getting scammed. But, like, what?
