Is the vlog working?!? (we revealed our revenue) | Vlog #31

Ryan Shank reveals PhoneWagon's $4.5K monthly recurring revenue and $1K new MRR per week, with plans to hit $6K next week. The team uses daily vlogs as a sales tool, sending them to prospects instead of one-pagers, and is building a blog-vlog for SEO and shareability.

You know, like, you were basically telling us to fuck off. What's up guys, it is Monday morning. Today we have a massive day. We have a ton of like demos and stuff on the calendar. We just came off of two back-to-back, uh, really big weeks. $1,000 in net new MRR added for each of the past two weeks. We're looking to do it again. We're looking to double it this week if possible. Oh, we have a lot of cool stuff. Nick is, uh, is actually working back from Delaware now, so he's not in the office with us. Um, but so that was really cool to have him around for the past couple weeks. Um, We actually have a KPI meeting today that we're gonna go over with the Techstars guys, and then we're just gonna be like heads down doing demos, talking to customers, and I'm really gonna be focusing a lot on marketing, getting the tracking right, getting the website up. If you guys are new here, my name's Ryan Shank. This is our journey building PhoneWagon from the ground up, no outside funding whatsoever. We're going through Techstars in New York City. I hope you guys are out there working hard, being pioneers, being wagoners. Welcome to the vlog. Did you see the email from the guy? Did I forward it to you, or did I just paste a screenshot of it? He just needs Report Garden integration, but like seriously, this is my, this is what I think The flow happens. Like, we cold called him. I did a demo with him. I like LinkedIn friended him. But what I'm thinking now is that like on my LinkedIn, I have like the banner of like my face with new videos every day. I didn't actually think about this before, but I think like I hit him on LinkedIn and then it basically cross-promotes the YouTube channel. So then they get LinkedIn, they're like, what are these videos? Then they watch the videos and they're like, oh wow, these guys are like actually like grinding and hustling. 'Cause he was like, watched some of your YouTube videos, appreciates the hustle. Can you give me a code? He's in a group of 1,000 entrepreneurs. And I was like, yeah, fuck it. It's very backward, this small, but it turns out to be very impressive. All right, so these are our numbers, our KPI update for the week. So we had $972 in new MRR added last week. We had $1,099 the week before, so we're averaging $1,000 net new MRR per week right now. We added 7 new paying customers, which is up from 3 new paying customers the previous week. And we're growing about 30% week over week right now. We're currently at $4,450 in MRR. So we should pass— we should be at $6K by the end of next week. And then they like want to be involved. They like want to like get— they can get behind. It's like a story that they can like get behind. You know, they're like, I want to help out because I see that they're like trying. One, we're not half-assing it, and then we're not pushing out bullshit products. Like, I feel like today I also sent an email that I felt was pretty genuine to a guy today. And I was like, look, I was like, I'm gonna be very transparent. Like, I want to win your business. Like, tell me what I have to do. I was like, I will go above and beyond in order to win. Like, I will build what you need inside of your account. Like, I wanna win.
Oh, like ways to push other people. Like maybe people that say, send me some information.
You know, like— People that are basically telling us to fuck off. Yeah. That like re-engages them.
Like maybe we should like link to the video in like those emails that you send to people that basically tell you to fuck off. If people are like, "Send me a one-pager," fine.
I mean, the one thing that I think could be interesting is like, when they're like, "Send us a one-pager," especially if they're like a gatekeeper. Gatekeepers arguably have some downtime. So if they're like, "Send us a one-pager," and we send them like a video plus one-pager, they can watch the video, arguably they have time, then they can get engaged, and that might make them want to then push it through to the actual DM. The other case would be if we already are talking to the DM, they're telling us to fuck off. Fuck off. Then that catches them, and then they're like, "Oh, that's kind of cool. Like, I see what they're doing there." 'Cause I like feel like I connected with this guy today. I was like, look, you're a business owner. I was like, we're trying to build a business right now. Like we're doing, like we're going outbound. And they're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, totally get it, totally respect it. How do we step on the gas? You know, how do we step on the gas, Mike?
How do we step on the gas?
I just need to step on the gas, man.
There's two things that like I think, I mean we talked about this last week with the growth hacking thing. And like one thing we talked about doing this week was the blog.
Blog, blog, blog. Blog.
Can we do that this week? It's what, Monday?
Yeah, so we should probably put it out like one blog post and making that, or a blog post per vlog.
That, but that's not what we're talking about. I want to do that. Okay, the idea of what we want to do is we want to write a blog post basically like detailing why we're doing the vlog and like the whole strategy about the vlog. So it's like an article that's like, this is why we're vlogging, or something like that, you know, where it's like it just tells the story versus like just the— like this vlog right here is just the actual like content of the vlog, but then we want to tell more like the why in long-form writing so that then people can like share it and then we can obviously like link to it and stuff like that. But then so people can like read the story of the vlog inside of like a blog post that can then get like shared and then we'll get a bunch of links. So then there's SEO juice, but then also people can like read the story and stuff. So we're calling it a blog vlog because it's a vlog about the vlog that we're gonna host on our blog and then push out through the vlog. That makes sense, right? We should get new pages out. Like, I really like the new pricing page. Like, I want to start to like slowly like migrate, I feel like, pages on the site. Like, if we could get a features page, I think that would be like a huge help for conversions right now.
I'd rather spend the extra 5 minutes on it in Photoshop so that way it's like the same badge from person to person, video to video. So like, every time it says Mike Korsky, it's product.
Yeah, it's consistent.
Yeah, it's consistent.
Later, Mike.
Already?
Mike, it's only 9:44 on a Monday.
You left at midnight last night?
I left at like 10:45. See you, Kane. Make sure you outro.
I'll outro once I'm outtroad.
I don't like that they took all the snacks. I thought they were trying to help you guys.
Like, does it have anything to eat now that they took the snacks away?
All there is is fucking popcorn.
There was Goldfish here.
Here. It's gone.
There was fruit. There was bananas and oranges.
No, you know what?
Oh, I actually have it in my Amazon like shopping cart. I'm gonna get like snacks for our like table. So I got like Kind bars, and I was thinking I'll get like Kind bars and like healthy stuff.
Fruit salad, yummy yummy.
It's for us to like eat, and we just keep it like at our table so these guys can't use it.
All right, so we're out.
