Revenue Update (3x growth in 1 month) | Vlog #35

Ryan Shank updates PhoneWagon's metrics: MRR hit $5,090, up from $2,500 three weeks prior, with ten new paying customers last week. Facebook ads aren't working, but a Rand Fishkin retweet brought a plumbing client. The bootstrapped SaaS is in week 5 of Techstars NYC.

which is insane to get that level of talent all in one human. So that's amazing. Good morning, Wagoners. It is August 4th. Welcome you guys. If you guys are new here, my name is Ryan Shank. We're building the company PhoneWagon from the ground up and we're vlogging 7 days a week and we're sharing all of our learnings with you guys so that you can follow along, hopefully pick up some advice, give us some advice in the comments. But we're doing it all, no outside funding, we're bootstrapped. We're going through Techstars, which is what that is, in New York City. And I hope you guys are out there working hard, being pioneers, being Wagoneers. Welcome to the vlog.
See this facing?
Are you? He's like curious. Are you guys? He wasn't just like plowing through it. Yo, you write the address.
That's it? You print it out. You hand it to him.
Like literally that's it. Talked about how like I have my Fitbit scale hooked up to a Google Sheet. He's like, yo, I'm gonna need that Google Doc. $12,500 to acquire 4,000 customers.
$1,000 in revenue. Yeah, all right, that's fine.
So let's, let's get you started then.
I'll hit you up by the end of the day today.
I'll shoot you an email and then we can figure out like next steps. Sounds good, sounds good. Appreciate it, man. Be a good fit though. Yeah, for sure.
Good.
Um, yeah, thanks for jumping on the call. So yeah, Dave, uh, obviously I was talking with him last night and he said you could be a good fit for us. I'd love to just like learn a little bit more about what you've been up to.
What's up, Nick? What's up, man?
And then analytics is more like weekly, monthly, kind of just Thanks, Stuart. I'll send you an email now. Looking forward to having you guys on board. So this guy, he saw that Rand Fishkin from— who's the CEO of SEOmoz— shared my article from Kissmetrics. He saw on Twitter like a while ago that he shared it, and then he just like came to the site today because he needed it for call tracking for one of his plumbing clients. And, uh, I'm like 92% sure he's gonna sign up. All right guys, we are finishing out the week. We still have the entire New York office team in the office. Look, 7 o'clock on Friday, August 4th. We're gonna go over weekly metrics in a second. Um, we're gonna, we're gonna flip and we're gonna jump to something else.
We're gonna get back there. Help it, that's what I like to say.
Um, but we're just gonna go over everything. It was a pretty good week, but It wasn't as good of a week as I wanted to have. In terms of like revenue, we passed $5K in MRR. So that's like a pretty big milestone. And other than that, we're going to update you guys. This is already, mine's already warm. Where the fuck is the button? Is this thing on? I got something to say. I need to talk to you. I need to talk to you. Talk it out a little bit. So it's about to hit 7 o'clock Friday. This is, I think, like week 5 of Techstars. So I want to update everyone on our progress. We're at $5,090. In monthly recurring revenue, MRR. 3 weeks ago we were at like $2,500 in MRR, so we're adding, uh, about $1,000 a week. This week we came a little short, we only added around $700 in new MRR, although this week we added 10 new paying customers, which is our biggest week so far in terms of count of customers. Product-wise, like, Mike has been like absolutely killing it. He's like Lifesaver, he's taken so much off my plate because now he is, one, he's able to like, one, manage and own the entire product. All the engineers now report up to him so I'm not spending my time giving like constant feedback. He's super organized, we have everything in like Trello boards and he's also a designer so he's owning product plus he's design plus he's like managing the dev team which is insane to get that level of talent all in one human so that's amazing. Hope you guys have a great weekend. I really appreciate you like following the vlog. If you guys are new here, My name is Ryan Shank. This is the journey of building PhoneWagon from the ground up. No outside funding. Completely bootstrapped. We're going through Techstars in New York City. I hope you guys are out there working hard, being pioneers, being Wagoneers.
Peace. That's dope.
Yeah, Mike, Mike, how do you feel about what Ryan just said about you? What he said about me? No, but how do you feel about it? Talking shit about me? It doesn't have to be agency because you could be a PPC person without being at the agency.
Can you give me some cocaine? Yeah. Because there's very—
they're putting us in a category right along with other services I do. Like they sell, like, oh, I'm gonna do PPC. Management, you're gonna get charged a fee for that, and you're gonna get— yeah, exactly. So when they say that, you should like call that out and be like, no, we're not a service that you sell to your clients, because that's what their objection is. I need to sell it. This is like, yeah, this is something that helps you get more value from your clients and helps you more efficiently like figure out what to do for your clients. Yes, I do. But that's why I'm like also not happy with the Facebook stuff either. It's like, dude, we're spending like hella money getting like no signups. Like, I, when I was doing it myself with a simple-ass landing page, was getting signups. And that's the thing is like maybe we could just go back to some like regular-ass lead gen page, maybe a demo request call to action and things like that. Like, we can just like get on the phone In a way, it's like a dirritation of video watch. Dirritation? Yeah. Duration? I guess. Yeah. No, I don't think so. I don't think I've ever actually said that word out loud. I mean, who would I say that to? Yo, I got that on the vlog. That was dope. I was recording. That was awesome. This is why you should always be recording. You catch shit like that.
Always be filming.
He's been a video guy his whole life. He thought it was derotation. I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing because it's funny as shit. I was like, yo, Kane knows some like crazy shit that I've never heard of. Durotation, like what is that? That must be some like deep shit, like way in there that like who knows. There's like meta tag.
10:48 on Friday, they're cleaning the place. We just— I don't know why I whispered.
All right, so we just closed. This was a really cool— I think you guys, we got on the vlog, but I feel like I kind of forget what we vlog and what's just real life and then I want to like just say it again. Whoa! Wow! Ah!
Shit! Shit! I'm gonna get in trouble.
Alright guys, we just had an amazing day, an amazing week. Things are going pretty well. I'm trying to just get ready for the new hires coming up next week and the new SDRs and I am out of here. It's kind of cool in there but If you guys are new here, I really appreciate you following along and joining us for this journey. My name is Ryan Shank. This is the journey. We're building PhoneWagon. It's a SaaS company from the ground up, no outside funding, completely bootstrapped. Uh, we go hard 7 days a week. We're vlogging the entire thing. We're putting out a ton of content so people can follow along the journey and hopefully get a lot of value out of it. I hope you guys are out there working hard, being pioneers, being Wagoneers.
Peace!
