Ryan Shank, founder of PhoneWagon, thanks viewers and explains how his bootstrapped startup is growing 25-40% week-over-week without outside funding. He argues the same principles that work for a tech startup—commitment, free resources, relentless work—apply to any business, from plumbing to yoga.

Your rosé, my beer toast.
Ah!
Oh no. Is it waterproof? It's good.
What's up guys, it's Ryan from Phone Wagon. I want to talk to you guys for a little bit. Today's Sunday, it is July 30th. I want to just first thank you guys for following along on our vlog and our journey. I know that, you know, we've been testing out a bunch of things. One, we've been testing out a lot of stuff with just the company and just trying to figure out, you know, what we can do to make the company grow and the company scale. But at the same time, you know, we're obviously going going through another journey in parallel to the company, and we're creating a vlog, which is pretty much like a series. It's a full-time job for multiple people, and, you know, we're documenting the process, and we're testing out a lot of different things with that as well. We're trying to figure out, you know, like, what resonates, what doesn't resonate. The biggest thing that I want to personally do is to just give back and try to just say, hey guys, it's completely possible for you guys to build a business and for you to get something off the ground that you want to do. So I think a lot of times, if you're not exposed to people, you know, and seeing that it works and seeing see the success that people have from doing those things. You might think that it's like a long shot or that it's like unattainable and that sort of thing. And that's the whole purpose of going about this vlog and documenting everything and putting it out 7 days a week, is that I want to show you that if you just put your head down and you try to figure something out and you go all in on it, you can actually do it.
Do it!
You know, I know that sometimes it might not seem as relatable with stuff that we're doing, but I'm trying to stay really high level and just say like, you know, whether you're trying to create like a small social media company or, you know, an internet agency in your hometown, whether you're going to create a small business, a plumbing company, an HVAC company, whether you're going to open a spa or yoga studio, whatever it is, you know, you can apply a lot of the stuff that we're doing to your own business. What we're trying to do is just show you one way of doing things, the way that we're doing things, and that it's working for us, you know. But look, we're, we're all just trying to figure it out, just like you guys are trying to figure it out. We're documenting our process so that you can say, hey, this is what they're doing, they're seeing success with this, let me try this in our business, in my business. And then from that, you can take that and then you can apply, you know, your own style to it or whatever it is. But the fact is, it's like, I want you to see what we're doing 7 days a week and the fact that we're growing our business right now anywhere from 25 to 40% week over week. We're seeing a lot, a lot of growth and it's working for us, okay? We're not trust fund kids. We don't come from money. All of us come from like nothing and we've done everything. You know, we've built everything from the ground up with the internet and access to information and content these days. You can do all of that stuff if you really just try to like put your mind to it and figure out, you know, what you need to do. You have access to all the information. A wealth of knowledge is all on the internet, and you can figure it out. You just got to go like heads down, and you just got to be committed to it. And that's the biggest thing, is staying committed to something. Engage with us. That's what I want you guys to do. My name is Ryan Shank. Uh, this is our journey building PhoneWagon from the ground up. We don't have any outside funding. We're completely bootstrapped, and we're going through a startup accelerator, right? We're documenting our journey every single day. I want you guys to come along for the ride, and I really, really appreciate you guys engaging with us and following along. Okay, I hope you're out there being pioneers, being Wagoneers.
Welcome to the vlog.
I do want to record like this intro. I just talked to my friend for a while and he was like just giving me some advice. He's like my best friend from home and he's like kind of a dick to me. Like, I kind of like it. Yeah, I like it too. I hate it, but I like it. But he does it to like the extreme. It's like, dude, I know. He's like, you're a douche. Well, he's just like, you want to be more like relatable. Like, not everyone's in New York City, not everyone's in like tech. You want to be able to be like appeal to like a super broad like audience and stuff with the videos and just be— he's like, he's like, I know you, you know, it's like I would— I talk to you, it's like I get what you're doing. He's like, but from the outside, people probably think you're just like either like too tech or being like too obnoxious and stuff. He's like, you want to just like break it down and like be more like real with the people, you know. So it's like if like a random kid's like graduating from college wants to start like a painting business, like he could get the same amount of value as someone that wants to start a SaaS company. I disagree with that. Like 100%. Disagree with what?
I don't think you should be going for super broad. You should make it specific to people. I think the audience is gonna be people interested in tech startups, people interested in tech, people interested in startups.
Alright guys, I'm actually gonna go meet up with my friend Billy Baker right now at South Street Seaport. It's a beautiful day outside. It's like 80 degrees in New York City. Alright guys, so right now we are downtown in Financial District at South Street Market, Fulton Market, and meeting up with my friend Billy Baker.
What's up, Bill? How's it doing?
Yeah, it's alright.
How you doing?

We're not going to karaoke. No, we are. We're not going to karaoke.

I had to drag 95 hours.
He's a doctor.
