Adding a module to the right rail of your Joomla site

Ryan Dohrn shows how to add a weekly tip graphic to a Joomla site's right rail. Upload a 300 × 250 pixel image to Media Manager, enable the Weekly Tips module in Module Manager, select your image, and set the display order. Save and make sure the module is enabled.

Hey, good morning, it's Ryan Dohrn. I thought it would be easier for me just to record a real quick video for you to explain how you will upload the weekly tip. It's actually pretty straightforward. What you'll do is log into your backend of the Joomla system, and then you're going to need to upload the graphic first, which is 300 wide, 250 tall. And then you're going to click on Media Manager, which is going to take you here. And remember, all of your things are within the Stories folder. It's right here, Stories. And what I've done is I've created you a folder called Tips. And so you can actually click on the folder Tips, and then all you're going to do here at the bottom is choose Browse, and then it's going to pull up, you know, wherever that file is that you want, that you saved that file. And then you're just going to click Start Upload, and it's going to put it here in this folder for you. From there, you're going to go to the top, and you're going to go to Extensions and then Module Manager. Once you get here, you're only going to want to see the modules that are in the right rail. So here, under where it says Select Position, you just want to choose Right, and that way you'll know that you're only seeing things that are in the right position, meaning that if I go over and pull up your website, it's only going to show me the modules that are in this position here on the right, okay? These modules here. In this right rail that you see here on the right. So, once you enable this, it's going to turn that on, and I don't know which order or where you want this, so then I'll show you how to change that as well. So, then you'll notice that I have already created a module for you called Weekly Tips. It's here at the bottom right now. Now, depending on what order you want that in, if you want this to be number 1, then you're going to, over here in the numbers, you're going to change this to number 1. And then you're going to go to the top and click this little disc and that's going to change the order for you, okay? Well, right now what I want to do is I want to click on the Weekly Tips because I need to load the image, okay? So then what I want to do on the Weekly Tips is I'm— for the very first time, you're going to choose this right here where it says Enabled, you're going to choose Yes. Right now it's not enabled, okay? Then right here I have Coming Soon, just go over top of that and what you're going to do is choose here at the bottom Image, okay? Okay, so just choose image and then it's going to navigate you over to your media manager, okay? And so what you're going to do is go into the tips folder, you're going to choose the image and you're going to click insert, okay? For right now, I don't have anything loaded in there, so I'm just going to go over here for right now and just go to promo and I'm just going to choose just for right now this little Facebook icon and I'm going to choose insert, okay? And so then it will insert it right there. Now if it needs to link to a website, you just click on it. Then go to the link icon and then up here just put http:// whatever you want it to link to, okay? And then you would simply click save, okay? Remember, you have to enable it, yes, okay? And then don't forget that if you want to change the order, then what you're going to do is here in the module manager, you've chosen the position right, you're going to go right here and you're going to change the order to whatever you want or you can use the little up and down arrows. But if you want this to be number 1, you got to change it to number 1 and then click Save, okay? And that's it. That's how you update those weekly tips. Again, they're 300 by 250, and if you need something else, holler back at me. Hopefully, this video will help you. All right, take care.
