This is a YouTube tutorial titled "How to add a Youtube video in Joomla" (published 2011-06-27) featuring Ryan Dohrn of Brain Swell Media. It's a single-speaker, step-by-step how-to demonstrating how to embed a YouTube video into a Joomla article: obtaining the YouTube long link, enabling Extended functionality in the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor via Extensions → Plugin Manager, using the filmstrip/embed icon to insert the video and adjust dimensions, and making the video autoplay by appending the autoplay parameter (e.g., &autoplay=1) to the video URL. The clip is an instructional/demo presentation rather than a multi-person conversation.

Hey everybody, it's Ryan Dohrn here at Brain Swell Media, your internet consultant, and we are going to be talking today about adding a video to an article in Joomla. So you notice here's an article I have on my Ryan Dohrn website, and here's a video that's been embedded into the article. Also, this video is auto-playing, so I'm going to show you how to make that happen as well. Alright, what I like to do, and this is why I'm showing you more of my screen today than I normally do, I like to have all my tabs open the various places that I want to go. So I have my main website, I have my Joomla backend, I have my YouTube account open, and then I also have chosen to Google how to make a YouTube video autoplay, and that's going to give me the answer to that question. Okay, first of all, what I want to do is I want to go over to my YouTube channel and I want to pull up the video that I'm going to embed in my article. So I'm simply going to go over here and click under— after I log in, BrainSwell Media and Videos. Then what I'm going to do, this is one of the fastest ways, there's many ways to do this. I'm going to simply click on the video itself, okay? And then I'm just going to press pause. Then what I'm going to do is choose the Share button and it's going to give me sort of a funky URL, alright? Many people tell you it's okay to use this URL. It is, Except within Joomla, I've had some problems. So I want to encourage you to choose Show Options and then choose Long Link, okay? Now, before we go and paste this, if you want to just do this as is, that's absolutely fine. Your video is going to appear within your article just like this, but it's not going to autoplay. If you want it to autoplay, then you're going to need to add something to the end of that link. I'll show you that in a minute. Most of the time you don't want it to autoplay. Alright, let's go over. By the way, autoplay means it's going to automatically begin playing. Let's go over here to my article, but before I do that, let me close out of this and show you one other thing you may need to do. Some of you have called and asked, hey, why can't I see the ability for me to embed videos? Well, you absolutely can, but you may need to turn on that functionality in your WYSIWYG editor. So go to Extensions, Plugin Manager. Go find your WYSIWYG editor. It's probably this TinyMCE editor there. And then over here under Functionality, choose Extended. Okay, choose Extended and then click Save. Now you're going to go to your article now and what we're going to do is we're going to find the article that we want to use. Let's say it's this one here and let's pretend this video doesn't exist yet. And this is where we want the video to go. Put your cursor there, choose the filmstrip icon right up here next to the smiley face. This is where you're going to type in the URL. This is the video that you want to appear, alright? And what I like to do is I like to go into this box and just click to make sure that I see the video there. You'll notice it's 425 by 350. You can adjust the dimensions here as well. Now I'm simply going to choose Insert. I'm going to look down here, and here's the video automatically in the article. Then all I need to do is click Apply. Now, one of the things you're going to notice is I'm going to go back to the article and refresh. Why so many of you forget to refresh, I don't know, but it makes me laugh. Okay, here is the video. So if you click Play, then it's going to begin playing for you. My name is Ryan Dohrn. Today we're going to talk about how to— Okay, here's the video. Now, some of you want that to autoplay, so what I— meaning when you come to the page, it automatically plays. Then what I do is I go over here to YouTube— I'm sorry, to Google, And I Google how to make a YouTube video autoplay. It's going to give me several answers and here's the correct answer. You just add a +autoplay=1 or this ampersand autoplay=1. So I'm going to copy that, okay? I'm going to go over here to my article. I'm going to click once on the video box. Just click once on the video box. I'm going to click on the filmstrip icon and I'm going to go to the end of the URL and I'm simply going to paste in the ampersand autoplay=1. Okay. Update. You notice it's going to automatically start playing. And then I'm going to just click Apply, let it save, go back over to this page, I'm going to refresh this article, and not only is the Joomla article now showing the video, it's also auto-playing as well. Alright, it's as simple as that. The beautiful thing about videos, guys, right here is you can watch them over and over again, so that's what I encourage you to do. Take care, God bless, and I hope so much that you have a great day. Bye-bye.
