Ryan Dohrn says replace your laptop mic and cheap earbuds with an external microphone like a Blue Snowball or Jabra Evolve Duo headset. Poor audio distracts prospects and costs sales. Good sound and soft-box lighting boost credibility and engagement on video calls.

Hey friends, Ryan Dohrn here, your global sales and marketing coach, and here comes your tip of the week. Pretty simple, 3 words: get a microphone. Get a mic. Now you don't need some big old Casey Kasem mic like this or something like that, but go on Amazon and find you like the Blue Snowball mic, or get you a Jabra Evolve Duo headset. Get a mic. So many times I'm on sales calls where your internal microphone of your computer is all that the rep is using, and it sounds like you're, you're in an echo chamber. It sounds terrible. Or you're using the little white earbuds from Apple or those knockoffs that go in your ears. Friends, you can't hardly hear what you're saying. Good enough is not good enough. In professional sales environments, you need to make sure there's no distractions in your background or make sure it's clear. Buy yourself a little softbox light like I've got here. I mean, I've actually got a lot of wrinkles. You just can't see because of the beautiful lighting that's here. And like I said, you don't need a $200 microphone like this. The Blue Snowball mic is like $49. Buy the cord for like $9 and set yourself up for success. Remember, friends, 80-some percent of what people see online is driving their brain for retention. The rest of it is all heard. And if you're not coming across crystal clear, friends, you're missing out on a very important part of the sales process. Here's the thing, like even on YouTube, I can, I can deal with a video that has bad video quality, but if you can't hear what's going on, friends, it's lost in translation. Get yourself a microphone, invest in your success, and friends, I think it's that little detail that's going to separate you from everybody else. In the sales business. Go big or go home. Say it all the time. If you can't hack it, get your jacket. Sales is tough. Remember though, if sales was easy, everybody'd be doing it. And they're not. So you're— we're crazy probably for doing this. But I found a career, friends. I love it. And it'll feed my family for a lifetime. And it can for you as well. All right. I'm Ryan Dohrn.
