Hey guys, it's Ryan Dohrn. Today we're going to talk about how to link up a PDF within an article here within Joomla 2.5, and it should be, you know, pretty, pretty much the same for 3.0. Things look a little bit different. First step for me that I want to do is I want to go over to Joomla.org, and there's 100 ways to do this, but I'm gonna show you the simplest way in my opinion. First thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna use the JCE Editor. So you're gonna find that over at Joomla.org in the extensions directory. Over here on the left, choose editing, and then JCE is typically the one that pops up to the top. I really like this editor, even though the icons within the WYSIWYG are a little small. I really like this editor. I think it works out really well. And so then you're going to want to go over here to their page, and then what I always do is I download this one here. Download the installation package for 2.5 and 3.0. So that's the first step, okay? Next, what we're going to do is we're actually going to go into— and some of you may already have this set up, so you might not have to do this. I'm gonna go into Users and User Manager. Then what I'm gonna do is you choose your name, and then over here on the right side under Basic Settings, you need to choose JCE. You shouldn't have to enable it, it should already be enabled. Then click Save and Close. Next, let's go over to the Article Manager and let's find what it is that you want, the article where you want to add a PDF. So go ahead and click on— in this example, we're gonna click on the Forms article. Alright, and then what you'll do, you'll notice that you got your JCE editor. It looks almost like the tiny MCE editor but a little different. So to give yourself some room to work, grab the lower right-hand corner here down by Words 35 and pull that down, make it a little bit bigger. Alright, now let's just say that you want this piece of text, okay, you want this piece of text to link to a PDF. So you're either gonna highlight the text, okay, or you're gonna click within it You'll notice there's a little link icon next to the picture, so click on Link. Here's the trick. A lot of you are going to miss this. You'll notice right here, see where my cursor is? I'm going to keep moving it around so you see it. There's a little document with a plus sign. That's the first thing you're going to do. You're going to browse. Click Browse. Then what you're going to do is you're going to go and you're going to find your PDF folder. If you don't have one, what you're going to want to do is you're going to load your PDFs. You're going to get going on those and load those in through your Media Manager. Alright, and I'll show you that in a second, in case you don't know how to do that. So, then we're going to choose PDF, so that's a folder, okay, within my Media Manager, here on the left. Okay, then you're going to notice you've got your PDFs. Alright, then all you're going to do is simply click on the PDF that you want, and you're going to choose Insert, here. So, Insert. Now, one thing to note, notice the PDFs, no spaces. People try to do that all the time, it messes up, especially in Internet Explorer. Insert, and then you're gonna insert again. Okay, see down here, insert again, and that's going to link that particular link up to that PDF. Okay, now for those of you that don't know how to manipulate the Media Manager, let's go check that out real quick. So you can either go Site, Control Panel, okay, and go to Media Manager here, or you can go under Content, Media Manager. From your menu. So, go to Media Manager, and let's just say, as an example, you're here in the main folder, okay, and you don't have a PDF folder. No problem. See right here, okay, right here in the middle, here, where it says Create Folder? See right here? Okay, you're gonna wanna put over here in the right box, pdf, and I like lowercase, and then you're gonna click Create Folder, and that's gonna create you a PDF folder. Then, you're gonna wanna go into that folder, Alright, then you're going to right here browse for the PDF files on your computer, okay, and then you're going to click Start Upload, which is going to add them into this folder, okay. Then again, you're going to go up to your Article Manager. You're going to find the article that you want to edit upon. Don't forget, you've already gone and turned on your JCE editor. You've downloaded it and you've installed it. Okay, alright, and if you're working— if you're somebody that's working with me here at BrainSwirl Media, we've already done that for you. Okay, you want to go and highlight what it is you want to make a link to the PDF. Okay, then you go to the link box. Then what you're going to do next is you're going to choose this little document with a plus symbol, and then you're going to browse for your PDF. So you're going to go to the PDF folder, you're going to find your PDF, you're going to click Insert and Insert, and there it's linked up. Okay, alright, and that's it. That's how you add a PDF. Now, if you don't have the JCE editor, alright, so you're going to go to 2.5, alright, you're going to go to Joomla.org first. You're going to go here to the extensions directory. Then, you're going to go to the editing. Don't search for JCE. That's going to give you everything, okay? Go to editing. JCE will be the top one. You're going to click download. It's going to take you to their download page. You're going to download this to your desktop. Then, you're going to go to your Joomla site. You're going to go to Extensions, Extension Manager in 2.5. You're going to browse for that folder and then you're going to install it. Then, you're going to need to go to the User Manager and you're going to need to add that as an editor. So, click on yourself. Then, you're going to go over here under Editor. You probably have TinyMCE selected. Choose Editor JCE. Save and Close, okay? Remember something, guys. If you're working with me, this has probably already been done, if you're working with my company, alright? If you're not, you're going to need to go through all those steps, but pretty much that's it. We continue to love Joomla each and every day. It makes us money and makes our customers very happy. So, best of luck in adding PDFs to your Joomla document.
