A sales trainer argues that unplanned, ad-hoc actions tank performance. His fix: time-block three essential sales activities daily at fixed times. When your core tasks are scheduled, randomness stays at the margins and inboxes stop running your day.

Hey friends and fans, today we're talking about randomness and why randomness kills your sales day and can actually mess with your personal life as well. Now a lot of times people confuse randomness and spontaneity. Now they're very different things. Being spontaneous, which for some of you is random, don't do that. Being spontaneous is like, oh, you know what, I should bring some flowers home to my wife. You know what I should do, I should do the laundry once. You know, you know what I should do, I should probably take the garbage out. See, that kind of stuff is spontaneous. Now, is there randomness as a part of it? Absolutely. But in sales life, randomness a lot of times guides us, takes us down places we don't want to go. So, for example, when my feet hit the floor in the morning, I've got some semblance of what my day is going to look like because I've time-blocked my day. So, I'm going to prospect at like 11 and 4. I'm going to do retention activities last thing in the day. I'm going to wait until after 10 AM before I start doing heavy prospecting, you know, those kind of things. I've kind of got my day sort of laid out, and then the randomness kind of happens around that. If you're random, like, oh, you know what, I should prospect today. Yes. Oh, you know, I should retain people a little bit today. Right, you should. Those things should all have a place in your day. When your feet hit the floor in the morning, friends, make it your goal that your day should have some type of framework to it. If not, guess what happens? Your inbox runs your day. All right, so what would I do? I would find 3 sales activities that are super important to me. I'd program those into my day each and every sales day, and I would start with that. Time blocking is really the beginning and first steps of not being random. And when you're not random, friends, guess what? You're going to be more structured. And when you're more structured, guess what? You typically get more done. Never forget, friends, if sales was easy, everybody'd be doing it, and they're not. We're not crazy. It's a great career, friends. It'll feed your family for a lifetime. All right, no randomness today. All right.
