Using cpanel to view your stats

Ryan Dohrn shows how to access website traffic stats through cPanel's AWStats tool. You can calculate banner ad impressions by multiplying pages served by ads per page, and compare monthly data to track trends. Server-side stats are more reliable than Google Analytics, which filters data heavily.

Hi, this is Ryan Dohrn at Brain Swell Media, and today we're going to talk about how to use the cPanel to access your statistics. All you're going to simply do is you're simply going to type in your domain name forward slash cPanel, and then you're going to hit enter. It's going to bring you to this page where you're going to need to enter your username and your password. Once you're into the cPanel, then you're going to simply scroll down. And remember, the cPanel gives you a lot of access to things like email, backups, and more, so you want to be real careful here. And then what you're simply going to do is you're going to click here on AWStats. There is Webalyzer, which is another tool. I just happen to like AWStats a little bit better. So simply click on AWStats. Then you'll notice that you have— well, usually have just one one.com name and click View. The stats that are currently being displayed are for the month of June 2011. So as you scroll down the page, you can see for this particular month of June 2011, unique visitors 479, number of total visits 873, number of pages 2,368. So the number of pages served, if you had 4 banner ads on every page, you would take 2,368 times 4, and that's going to give you the total number of banner ads, 9,472, that your website served. But you're going to want to reference your banner ad serving tools to get a better estimate on that as well. If you want to see your statistics, here's the numbers here as well. And then also, if you want to look at May, let's go to May and click OK. Number of unique visitors, 465. Number of total visits, 807. Number of pages served, 2,134. Then you also— then can also choose other things here on the left to give you more options. If you wanted to see days of the week, you can click days of the week and it will show you the amount of traffic by days of week. There's a lot of other information here on the left that you can choose as well. It's as simple as that. I like to use my server statistics because I feel that Google often filters very heavily I do like Google Analytics, but I feel that they filter very heavily, and so I like to see my server stats because they are truly an exact reflection of what traffic is actually occurring on my web server. This is Ryan Dohrn from BrainSwell Media. Thanks so much for stopping by. Good luck with your statistics.
