It is an instructional monologue by Ryan Dohrn of BrainSwell Media demonstrating how to enable and disable the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor in Joomla via Site → User Manager → User Editor. The speaker shows how to switch to "No Editor" to paste or edit raw HTML safely, warns that toggling the WYSIWYG can corrupt vendor-supplied code (e.g., from Constant Contact), and advises keeping track of whether a page was created with the editor off so you continue editing it that way.

Today we're going to talk about how to turn your WYSIWYG editor on and off within the Joomla interface. So go ahead and simply log into your Joomla backend. Let's give you an example of what it looks like when the WYSIWYG editor is turned on. I'm simply going to go and open up a normal article, and you'll notice that this is the WYSIWYG editor, okay? So WYSIWYG stands for what you see is what you get, okay? So in this particular circumstance, you see that you've got the normal information here that you would see within any standard word processing system. Now, some of you may say, well, wait a minute, if you wanna switch and see the code here, you simply just press the toggle editor button. Now, that is true. So if you wanna edit your HTML, you can do that, but there are many circumstances where this just simply doesn't work. For example, say you receive some code from a vendor like, for example, Constant Contact or something like that. What you're going to need to do in that circumstance is if your WYSIWYG editor is on and then you toggle and you paste their code and then you toggle back, in some circumstances the code is going to become corrupt. It's not the vendor's fault, it's got nothing to do with that. It's all about how the WYSIWYG editor interprets that code. So in some circumstances you're going to need to turn the WYSIWYG editor on and off each time that you edit the article or the module. So let's go ahead and close out of this. Let's take a look at how you do that. You simply gonna go to Site and then User Manager. Then you're gonna go find your username, and then over here you'll see a little area that says User Editor. See right here on the right? Right now it's using the standard TinyMCE 2.0 WYSIWYG editor. If I wanna turn that off, I simply choose from the dropdown and choose No Editor, and I click Save. Now if I go back to the Article Manager and simply click on any of the articles, you'll notice now that the WYSIWYG editor is turned off. What this is going to do is allow me to cut, paste, alter HTML code, save it with absolutely nothing happening to the formatting of the HTML code. Again, you can try to toggle between the WYSIWYG and the code by using the toggle editor button that's down here. Many times it will not work, sometimes it will, so check it out. Now remember something, okay, it's very important to follow me on this. If you create this with the WYSIWYG off like it is now, you save it, then you come back to it with the WYSIWYG on and edit it and save it again, it probably is gonna corrupt your code, okay? So you need to make a— remember that sometimes you need to just make a mental note or make a physical note that in this particular page you started the page with the WYSIWYG off, so from that point forward you really need to edit the page with the WYSIWYG turned off, okay? And then just don't forget, it's very easy to go back and turn it back on. You simply go Site, User Manager, go to your name, and then go over to User Editor and turn the editor back on, and then click Save. There you go, that's how you turn your WYSIWYG editor on and off within the world of Joomla. Take care and have a great day. I'm Ryan Dohrn from BrainSwell Media.
