A short monologue by a senior product leader describing their career at Microsoft and DigitalOcean, including launching Azure's Kubernetes service and DigitalOcean's first serverless product. The speaker frames recent visible successes as masking numerous failures and intends to focus the talk on lessons from things that "blew up" or went wrong.
Look, I've been very fortunate in my career and frankly, very lucky throughout my career. I think luck is often underestimated at Microsoft. I started Azure's Kubernetes service, which is the fastest growing service compute service in Azure's history. I helped DigitalOcean launch their first serverless product this year. Lots more innovation we've been delivering at DigitalOcean recently, but those successes mask a lot of failures along the way, and I personally think it's less interesting to talk about the successes than it is about the failure. So we're going to spend some time today talking about stuff that blew up and went wrong and what I sort of took away from that.
