In this short YouTube segment, Jason M. Lemkin and a co‑host (Speaker B) react to a newly released AI market report from Marc Andreessen and a16z. The report’s headline figures—$8 billion projected AI investment in 2025 and the claim that two‑thirds of private AI revenue is generated by companies backed by Andreessen—are highlighted. The hosts name several Andreessen‑backed firms (OpenAI, Databricks, Anthropic, Harvey, etc.) and express astonishment, noting the need for the audience to consider these bold statistics. The conversation is brief, mainly delivering the report’s key numbers and the speakers’ immediate impressions, without deep analysis.
It's a generational company. You said Marc Andreessen proposed that. They released a report this week, which I thought was astounding for a couple of different things, but most importantly one, they put out $8 billion invested in 2025. This is Andreessen's report, by the way. So to give context, Andreessen did a report. Incredible slides, I thought. Actually I thought them and Avenir did great reports this week, I'm sure, Jason. Yes.
But.
In.
Andreessen's they.
Said.
About.
8 billion investors in 2025 and the stat that blew me away. Two thirds of private AI reven generated by Andreessen backed companies. OpenAI Databricks cursor Harvey Rapplett list continues. I was astounded by that. I don't know if you have takeaways from it, but I thought it was interesting for the audience to hear.
I thought it was an excellent report and I thought there's a lot of substantive good economic analysis up and down the report. I thought that slide was probably the least astounding one when you think about it for longer than clearly you did because it was a great sound bite and those guys are best marketing. It's a great sound bite, right? But objectively speaking, if you kind of add up all the AI revenue you're going to get 13 billion for OpenAI, 4 billion for anthropic and everything else is in the noise. 200 million for Harvey. Whoop de do. They're amazing companies, they're going to be great. But my point is to a rounding error, the sum of the revenue is the sum of. And then actually if you were to lump a third one in, it would be databricks, which they have a massive market share.
