A short excerpt from a June 12, 2024 YouTube talk by Jason M. Lemkin in which he recounts a string of successful SaaS investments (Greenhouse, Will, Salesloft), reflects on being 'five for five' by chance, and contrasts the past scarcity of SaaS-focused investors with the much larger, more experienced pool of founders/investors today.
The fourth one was Greenhouse, which was bought for almost a billion, and Will ipo. The next one was Salesloft, which was acquired for two. And I was five for five. And it wasn't intentional. It wasn't that I was, you know, a Bill Gurley or Keith Raboy or whomever. It's just at the moment in time, it was a great intersection between not that many people interested in SaaS. And there weren't. David Sachs was still running Yammer. There weren't that many people. Now, fast forward to today. There's a hundred founders with investing that were much better founders than me, right?
