Lemkin advising founders to take regular vacations—including annual breaks and occasional "two plus two" longer trips—and describing his practice of solo, device-limited vacations (iPad only, no laptop) to disconnect, get bored, and decompress in locations like Palm Springs, Napa, Spain, and Pacific Beach, San Diego.

Second one. The second one I do actually think we've gotten slightly better at. But take a vacation. And in fact, take a vacation every year and every few years, take what I call a two plus two vacation. And in the old days, founders never took vacations. I actually find that folks take vacations now. It's just in the area of constant social media and even worse, business social media. LinkedIn and Twitter, we never take a break. So if you can somehow take a vacation. What I used to do and then stopped doing and then did again was so location solocation. I know this sounds wacky, guys, but it really works. I would go. Go somewhere all by myself and get bored. And get bored and not check email. I would check a little bit mobile. Okay. I mean, you can't. You can't avoid it these days. But I would only bring an iPad, not a laptop. And I would check out for just one week. One week. I did Palm Springs. I did Napa. I actually did Spain. When 0.9 had a founder event, I just went there and decompressed. I did four of these, and then I did Pacific beach in San Diego. And they were great. They were great.
