5 Oct 2023 · 15 min
In this podcast Salila Sukumaran interviews a 31‑year‑old IT professional, referred to as S, who has struggled with PCOD/PCOS since age 17. After years of intermittent symptoms and conventional advice, S discovered Salila’s Instagram reels and enrolled in her Ayurvedic PCOS masterclass. The conversation covers S’s health background, the structure of the masterclass (body‑type identification, personalized diet, yoga, and inflammation reduction), and the rapid hormonal reset she experienced, leading to conception within 1.5 months and a normal, low‑risk pregnancy. S describes practical aspects of following the protocol—meal planning, occasional cravings, and the need for mental preparation—while emphasizing that the regimen was not overly restrictive. She also discusses the financial investment, deeming it worthwhile compared to multiple other treatments, and highlights ongoing support from Salila during pregnancy for diet adjustments. The interview concludes with S’s strong recommendation for other women with PCOS to attend the masterclass, noting the accessibility of the teachings and the potential for improved fertility and overall health.

Hello everyone, today we have an amazing lady. She is going to tell us her experience with one of my courses and how she was able to achieve her goals of good health and fertility and pregnancy after having done one of my courses. So welcome, S, and tell us more about you and tell us a little bit about your journey.
Hi everyone, uh, I am S, and I'm a 31-year-old female, and I primarily work in the IT industry, which means my life is sedentary for the most part. And I have been battling PCOD since I was 17 years old, and it was always on and off. And then sometimes I would be all clear, like no cysts, nothing. And then, you know, as good practice, I would get scanned every year. I would have a pelvic scan every year just to make sure it's not coming back. So it was always like I had it for some time, then I did not have it. Then from the past 5 years, it would just not go away. I had PCOS, that's when I stumbled upon Salila Sukumaran's Reels on Instagram. And yeah, it was all very captivating for me, and that's when I started following her. And then she posted about the PCOS workshop, and that's how I was able to join. And it was nice to see there were other women as well. Battling the same. So this is my background. Um, uh, yeah, wonderful.
Thank you so much. Yes, tell us a little bit about your condition when you came to the course and after you finished the whole protocol, how were you feeling afterwards?
Yeah, so before I joined the course, uh, like, I, uh, before I joined the course, I I did know that I had a cyst and my PCOS was there, and I was having irregular periods. So sometimes it would come in 30-35 days, which is my normal cycle, but sometimes it used to take 45 days or so. Sometimes, you know, you tend to think that few things are normal. I used to think, okay, the season is changing, it's winter now, so there's not enough heat, so maybe my body is readjusting. So I kind of took it a bit lightly, and then I was like, "No, I have to do something about this." And when I saw the announcement of the Masterclass, I joined it. And with whatever was told and discussed, that was very valuable information for me. And after that, I could see my body changing, the hormonal reset happening. And then I was, of course, I was not able to complete the course midway. I conceived. So that is a good thing that just shows the efficacy of whatever I started. Some people feel that, okay, I have to do this for 6 months. Will I be able to do it or not? You never know, right? Like for me, it happened in 1.5 months. So that is something I really liked. And, uh, that's that. And right now, yeah, my pregnancy was normal. I had a normal delivery, uh, and, uh, yeah, it's just that, uh, it's been 2 months, so I had my, uh, I'm yet to get my regular period right now. So that's that. But, you know, touchwood, uh, the doctor said it wasn't a high-risk pregnancy, no complications during the pregnancy. So I know whatever was told during the workshop was time-tested and something of value and from Ayurveda, our ancient Ayurvedic practices. So nothing was counterproductive. Whatever I did during the course, nothing affected my pregnancy in a negative way. So That is what happened to me after the course.
Amazing, amazing. Congratulations on your baby. This is amazing that even with— while you were completing it, you're not done the whole thing, your body became fertile and you conceived. And this is the experience of many of my clients. 80% of people, they— even when they do just 50% of what I'm sharing during the webinars, during the protocols, they reach success, they start to feel better. So Ayurveda gives us all these tools, and from this we can pick and choose what we want to do. And of course, there will be some who may have a more chronic issue, a more long-standing issue.
Yeah.
Had you tried before and you were successful— unsuccessful with getting pregnant?
No, I mean, uh, to be— I mean, I got married recently, so I was very determined to like, get to the root cause of PCOS so that I could conceive. I always wanted to have kids, so, uh, that was my goal, that, okay, now I have to be more serious. Once you cross 30, uh, things are not really in your control, and you have to be extra determined to work on, uh, your issues. So I wanted to get to the root cause of PCOS, uh, before, you know, we even start trying. So, uh, that was really good. And, uh, like, I know, uh, it's become very common, PCOS. And, uh, earlier I would just follow the general advice, uh, which the doctor says and which everybody, you know, all the fitness influencers tell, you know, have more protein, don't have sugar, exercise, uh, all those things. I did that, like, all these years I've been doing it, but why is it not completely going away? So I got to know, uh, the nitty-gritties of it, and, you know, got a deeper understanding of what actually happens inside the body after I attended the masterclass and following the principles of Ayurveda. First and foremost thing to know is your body type, and that Salila Sukumaran helped us understand during the workshop. And based on that, you will know, like, what is more suited for your body. I used to hear advice all the time, have salads, this, that, but I never liked having salads. That's when Salila explained, like, it depends on your body type. If it doesn't want cold food, then you might not like it, and you may not I should not continue having it. So those kinds of things were really helpful. And I like the fact she started from the very basic, like, first determine your own body type, and then I can tell you more about what you need to do. So it's not like a cookie cutter. You give one diet and everybody follows it. That's not going to work. So I got deeper understanding of these things during the Masterclass.
Thank you so much for sharing that. That is so important that you set the ground first and then you attempted to get pregnant. If you had not set the ground first, then, you know, people who have PCOS, PCOD tend to have more miscarriages, are not able to carry the, you know, baby to term, and it can create— and, you know, implantation itself might be a problem, especially when you have a cyst, you know, constantly recurring. So You helped your body get clear of all that. You made sure that your chances for having a healthy, happy, beautiful baby was the highest possible. So congratulations once again. Is there anything you would say to someone who was sitting on the sidelines and wondering, should I take this course with Salila? Should I take this consultation with Salila?
Yeah, definitely. I would say that you should always explore new things. Like Ayurveda is new to me. I've never followed. So I was like, why not? Let's see what solutions Ayurveda has to offer for PCOD. And that's what attracted me. And it's never too late to learn new things. And to me, it was definitely useful getting to the core of the issue. It's not just increasing your protein intake, doing high-intensity exercises, which Salila Sukumaran will cover. In the course. So the basic was to identify your body type, then reduce inflammation, which is the key. And from there onwards, your hormones start to reset. So for me, it's definitely— I would advise people to attend the masterclass whenever Salila conducts it the next time. And the one I had, had you, Salila, and She did tell about some yoga practices as well. It was a part of the session. So both helped me, not just the diet, but also the yoga asanas that were discussed during the masterclass. So all in all, it was a very good workshop. It helped me understand more about my own body. I would definitely ask people with PCOS to attend the masterclass because I know people with PCOS, they try multiple things like, let me do this, let me try this, let me have this tea to reduce whatever, let me do some seed cycling. All those things are fine, but getting to know the root cause is more important. And Salila Sukumaran is very good with that. She explained everything clearly and in layman terms. You don't have to know too much biology to understand what she's talking. Was the best part. So she would explain everything in layman terms. And yeah, you have to— then later on, she will give you guidance and you have to be strict about following it in order to get results.
Absolutely.
It's not like super— again, people would think, oh, maybe I'll be on a very strict diet or all this. It's definitely achievable. It's not that, you know, it's super strict. Like Salila Sukumaran said, even if you follow some rules of it, it will definitely get you results. So don't fear anything. Don't think, you know, okay, it's Ayurveda, must be very strict and all that. But definitely give it a try and see for yourself. That's what I would tell anybody with PCOS.
Did you ever go hungry or did you ever feel like, oh my God, this is too much, I can't do this?
At times, I think at the beginning, maybe. You know, sometimes if you have to give up certain kind of food, especially if it's your favorite. But then I kept telling myself, it's only temporarily, it's a reset. I had, you know, just keep going different. And, you know, being prepared and planned for your meals. Helps you a lot. Even if you're going out, you should know what you can eat or, you know, carry something with you. So it's like that. But again, like, I think the timeline was very decent. So it's not that I had to starve myself for a long time or, you know, so that helped. Mental preparation and just telling yourself that, hey, it's a hormonal reset, just, it's a matter of a few days. So that kept me going.
Wonderful, wonderful. So looking at the amount of money you spent on the masterclass, the consultation, do you think the result was worth it? If it was worth it, how much was it worth?
Yeah, it definitely helped me. I mean, money and all, like, we have all the money in the world to spend on, you know, services. Like, I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but we do spend a lot of money on, uh, things, uh, and, you know, we hesitate to give it for a useful session. Um, uh, so I feel it's a one-time thing, it's a one-time investment. Uh, especially people with PCOS, they would have done multiple things, paid multiple gym memberships or whatever. So just this one thing, you should not be hesitant about. Just trying to, uh, just going by the value add of this session, I think it's worth every penny.
Thank you so much, S. I am so happy for you. I wish you the very best moving forward, and I can't wait to see pictures and celebrate with you when, you know, you— and I wish you all the best for continued health.
Thank you. And Salila is very good about answering questions as well. Uh, I would like to mention that, like, even on my pregnancy journey, I asked her, like, how do I make this switch? Because the diet would be completely different, uh, during pregnancy. Pregnancy. So she helped me with that as well, and I'm very happy that I do know some people with PCOS, they have some complications during pregnancy. But I kept asking my doctor, is it okay? I have a cyst, is it fine? She's like, no, you're all good, it's not high risk and all that. So time to time I would ask Salila Sukumaran as well, like, how do I switch the diet? Should I have this which you recommended during masterclass? So she answered all those things. So I like that loop as well, you know, loop of communication with you even after the class.
So absolutely, I'm here to serve and help and do what I can. And, you know, when I meet wonderful women like you who come and tell me that they have conceived, that's like the best news. It makes my day, makes me so grateful. And, you know, you feel like, you know, in Hindi we say, 'Saathak,' you know, this is the reason why I'm here. So thank you Sharing that.
Yeah, continue doing good work, Salila. I hope, um, other girls are able to listen to our little interview and they get inspired and they definitely attend the PCOS— next PCOS Masterclass.
Wonderful. Take good care. Bye-bye.
Okay, bye-bye.
