How Long Should You Wait for a Proposal?

In this YouTube video, dating and relationship coach Sami Wunder addresses the question of how long a woman should wait for her boyfriend to propose before deciding to walk away. Targeting high‑achieving, successful women, she argues that an ideal proposal window is roughly six months to one year. She explains why waiting beyond a year can lead to two harmful emotional states – the "Waiting State" (passive hope) and the "Resentment State" (anger and self‑sabotage) – and why these states undermine a relationship. Wunder stresses the importance of having an explicit marriage‑timeline conversation early in an exclusive relationship, rather than assuming a proposal will happen naturally. She introduces her proprietary Love Success Framework and the Love Blocks quiz, tools from her ELEVATE coaching program that help women assess and strengthen their connection, gain leverage over their partner’s decision‑making, and avoid self‑sabotage. The video also highlights her track record (over 1,300 engagements from ELEVATE clients) and invites viewers to take the free quiz and schedule a discovery call for personalized support. Throughout, she advises against passive waiting and encourages proactive, strategic action to secure a proposal.

Today, let's talk about how much time you should be giving your boyfriend to propose before you decide to walk away. If you are new to my channel, this is dating and relationship coach Sami Wunder, and for the last 10 years, I've been helping high-achieving, successful, smart, strong women attract and keep incredibly loving and deeply fulfilling romantic relationships and marriages. Now, I know there are a lot of takes on this, that there should be no hurry to marry. Why should we put men under pressure to propose fast. You only get to know somebody over a longer period of time, so it makes sense to first live in together, and then for them to get to know us, for us to get to know them, and then maybe one day, if it feels aligned, we can also get married. Now, all those schools of thought exist, but here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to speak to you like if you were my ideal client, and my ideal client in ELEVATE is not looking to either be test-driven for many, many years, nor does she feel like she needs to test a guy for many, many years and live with him together before he pops the question. And so the ideal time frame, according to me, for a man to propose to you is between 6 months to 1 year time. Yes, here we go. I said it. Whether you are just seeing a man and not dating him exclusively, And if you know the entire No Girlfriend Speech concept that I teach inside ELEVATE, then you'd know you don't even have to be a man's girlfriend in order to be his wife. And so, in such scenarios, when our clients follow our Love Success Framework inside ELEVATE, they get popped the question as fast as anywhere between 6 to 8 months. Really, men know that fast. But even if you are in an exclusive connection, It is very normal for you, as a woman who is desiring to get married, maybe have children, have a family, settle down, that you can rightfully expect your guy to propose by the 1-year mark. So inside Elevate Relationships group, where we have women who decided to go exclusive, stop rotational dating, date one man only, even in their cases, our recommendation was, don't let the timeline stretch beyond 1 year. Now, of course, if you're watching this video right now, you are watching it because either he is not planning to propose soon or he's avoiding proposing. And of course, you might be feeling a sense of push and pull. Should I stay here? Should I walk away? What is the right thing to do? So here's the Sami Wunder approach. If you were my client in ELEVATE, here's how I would invite you to think. The first and foremost thing is, you don't want to throw a good thing away. I think it's really important to take all influencer and TikTok advice on social media with a pinch of salt. This is your relationship that you're talking about, and nobody can sit on the outside and tell you, oh, you should leave, he hasn't proposed, oh, you deserve a proposal. I like to believe that my clients are smart, self-aware women, and I would never want you to just throw away a good relationship that you've worked so hard to attract in your life, that is loving and good at so many fronts. And so most of the time, my advice to my Elevate clients is, it is worth the work. So if he's not proposing, he's not moving things forward, he has his fears, he has his hesitations about taking the big step, don't throw a good thing away impulsively. The second thing I want to say is, look at the overall relationship. If you have a good man, you know he cares about you, you know he loves you, Then that should tell you again that this might be worth working towards. But when I say it might be worth working towards, it does not mean that you should get into your masculine energy and start trying harder to get him to like you, start trying harder to get him to propose. That's not the kind of work I'm talking to you about. But I will tell you what exactly I mean when I say it might be worth the work. If the rest of the relationship is good, he treats you right, loves you, the intimacy is great, and the proposal and the ring is the only thing that's not happening, the relationship might be worth the work. And you want to keep listening closely to this video right till the end, because I have an amazing resource for you that I would love to give you. And there's a reason why the BBC and the Daily Mail have called me the Get The Ring Coach. I mean, we've had over 1,300+ engagements coming from our ELEVATE group coaching program. So what I'm telling you is really worth it. So The next thing I would love for you to strategically think about is, what was the agreement when the two of you got together? So a lot of the times, women make this mistake that they enter an exclusive connection, become girlfriend, but they've never really spoken about marriage, and they've never really spoken about marriage with timelines in mind. So this is one of my top recommendations to my clients inside ELEVATE. You never just want to say, I want to get married, and then become a girlfriend. You want to say, I want to get married within a specific time period. I want to, within the next 1 year, be with the right person, get married, settle down, have kids. I'm 40 years old. I'm 40 years old. So most women hesitate being so direct. But in my experience, a man who's interested and who has a serious desire for a commitment will not shy away when you are so forthright. In fact, I would never recommend closing down your options and getting exclusive without knowing that within the next year, we're both on the same page about getting married. And what this also gives you is that it gives you the ability to come back and refer to this conversation if the proposal is not happening within a year. If you discussed at the start of the connection, if you discussed when you were closing down your options, that you are going to close down your options for now, but you are looking to get married and settle down within the next 1 year, does that work for him? And if he said yes, that works for him, then this is Something you can bring him back to in order to keep him accountable. But as I said, most women don't have these conversations because they're not in ELEVATE, and then they spend all this time and energy getting into what I call 2 states. The first state is the Waiting State. This is a horrible state to be in. This is where you are a girlfriend, maybe for 1 year, for 2 years now. He's like, everything is fine. What's the hurry? Sami will pop the question. Well, I'm just going to keep waiting. I hope it changes. I'm going to be a better girlfriend. This is a bad idea. And this is the kind of work I'd never invite you to do, because that waiting room that you're sitting in, or deciding to sit in, trust me, you are going to be sitting there for a very long time. This is a bad, bad idea. And I have so many sad stories to share. I mean, I've been doing this for over 10 years now. You can imagine the experience I have gathered as a love coach. Serving 19,000+ customers in 90 countries. And there are just so many heartbreaking stories there. I would never want that for any woman. And I would never want you to be in the waiting room of, when is he going to propose? Meanwhile, putting all this work to be a nice girlfriend. And then it brings me to the second state women enter, which is, again, not a helpful state to enter, but it's the state of resentment. Now, this is a form of self-sabotage because, you know, you should get the proposal. You're getting frustrated every year. Your time is passing. Your biological clock is ticking. You want him to propose. You feel angry he's not doing it. And then what starts to happen is that resentment changes your behavior. And so from the fun, sexy, beautiful girlfriend, you become an angry, withholding, eye-rolling, critical girlfriend. Now, I call this state a self-sabotage. Because would you want to marry yourself in that state? So what happens is, when women start behaving this way, in a state of resentment, they actually push away the very man they want. Because, of course, he's not proposing because he has his doubts and hesitations. But when you start behaving like that and you become this resentful, angry, unhappy, withholding woman— nothing of what I teach in ELEVATE, by the way— then his doubt just confirms, his fear is just getting confirmed that you may not be the right one. And so it's a form of self-sabotage to enter the second stage. So what do I recommend? What is the kind of work I recommend? If it's a good relationship overall, the kind of work I recommend is to strategically work on your connection with this man so that you have greater leverage and positive influence on him, his decision-making process, and to really figure out where exactly are things going wrong. So for this, my Love Blocks quiz is an incredible tool. You can take it completely free. The link is in the description below. You can take it as a single woman, you can take it as a woman in a relationship, and it will help you figure out where your connection with this person is weakening. What is exactly going on in your relationship, based on my 6 Pillar Love Success framework? This is my own revolutionary methodology that I help you implement inside ELEVATE and has had incredible success with my clients— 1,300+ success stories. So take the quiz and then strategically work on this connection to make it happier, more positive, so that you have more leverage on his decision-making process. You see, the more unhappy we are, the more critical we are, the more resentful we are, we're not inspiring our men to step up and commit more. We're actually just confirming their belief that we may not be the right person for them. And this is what we do so beautifully with our clients in ELEVATE. So once you've taken the quiz, you're very welcome to book a free 30-minute discovery call if you want to explore how we can support you to actually get the proposal you want. It doesn't have to be a scary thing. It doesn't have to be destabilizing to your current relationship. We actually help you strengthen the relationship you have with your partner first, And then help you have those strategic conversations to help you get the ring and help you get the proposal. But the thing I do not want for you at all is that you sit in that waiting room and you just hope to Universe, to God, that one day this man will suddenly wake up and recognize your value, because it rarely ever works like this, and it is very, very costly. By the way, if it was helpful, your likes, your comments, your love means so much to me. Please hit a like, Please leave me a comment. Was this helpful? And then, of course, if you are not wanting to be the woman in the waiting room, don't be passive about this situation. Take it in your hands, and we're here to support you in getting that ring, in getting that forever commitment. I will see you soon again. Lots of love!
