Men Fall in Love With Mean Girls

In this solo YouTube monologue, dating and relationship coach Sami Wunder addresses high‑achieving women who feel compelled to over‑give, over‑explain, and over‑invest in romantic relationships. She argues that this "over‑functioning" creates an energetic imbalance that collapses the polarity gap between masculine and feminine energy, causing men to lose the drive to pursue, invest, and become emotionally attached. Sami explains that men are attracted to women who maintain clear boundaries, self‑containment, and a life outside the relationship, not to women who appear "mean" but simply refrain from over‑giving. She differentiates between men who value effort and investment (the desired masculine type) and men who seek convenience and low effort (the "lowest‑hanging‑fruit" type). The core shift she recommends is stopping over‑functioning—reducing excessive texting, planning, and emotional labor—while focusing on self‑oriented activities, raising personal standards, and allowing men to invest in you. Sami emphasizes that love is built when a man invests time, energy, and resources, not when he merely receives a woman's gifts. She acknowledges the discomfort that can arise when women stop over‑giving, framing it as a healing rewiring rather than meanness. Finally, she invites viewers to take her free Love Blocks Diagnostic Quiz, based on her 6‑Pillar Love Success Framework, to identify personal emotional blocks and achieve healthier relationship dynamics.

Why is it that the moment you start doing less for a man, he suddenly steps up more for you? And why is it that when you're kind, giving, thoughtful, emotionally available, he pulls away more, gets lazier in the connection, or even takes you for granted? I think this is one of the most annoying truths for us women to face, especially if we're high achievers. Let's face it, there's a part of you that feels like, but Sami, if I stop doing so much, I'm actually being mean and unkind. Or Sammy, if I don't respond to his text or calls immediately, am I not being rude? Or Sammy, if I don't help him, I'm not being a good person, and that's just not me. Let's face it, girl, that version of you is the one that ends up over-functioning, over-efforting for men, getting exhausted in relationships, and feeling taken for granted. So today I want to break down this once and for all for you. Men don't necessarily fall in love with mean women per se, as social media would like you to believe. However, they do fall in love with women who are not over-functioning, and I'm going to show you exactly what that means. I've been doing this work as a dating and relationship coach now for over a decade, and here's something I see all the time with high-achieving women. You're successful, you're intelligent, you're used to making things happen with your effort. So when something doesn't work, What do you do? You just work harder. You lean in more, you try harder, you give a little more. That's what's worked in your career. But in love and with men, that principle almost always backfires. Because instead of creating attraction and magnetism and pulling a man in, it actually creates an energetic imbalance. Because very quickly, when you're trying not to be rude, not to be mean, trying to be the good girl, you start Texting more, checking in more, planning more, overexplaining your feelings, helping him out, giving more of yourself. And slowly but surely, you start to feel like you're carrying the connection. Now, here's the part no one tells you. The issue isn't that you're doing something wrong. The issue is that you're doing too much. And this is where the confusion begins, because when you stop doing all of that, It feels uncomfortable. It feels unnatural. It can even feel to you that you are being mean. You are being unkind. You are being rude. You are being selfish. Like you're inauthentically holding yourself back and playing games. Now, you feel these feelings not because not over-functioning in love is a mean thing, but simply because you are used to over-functioning and over-giving to men. So the real shift isn't, how do I be more mean to a man to make him fall in love? It's, how do I simply stop over-functioning in love? Because the woman that you think is mean, she's actually not doing anything rude or extreme. She's just not over-texting, not over-explaining, not over-giving, and not over-investing in a man too early. And that is what changes everything. So let's go deeper now. Because there's a reason this works. Attraction between a man and a woman is built on polarity. Masculine energy wants to pursue, lead, invest, and win. Feminine energy allows that energy. It is receptive, responding, and loves being chosen. But when you over-function in the name of trying to not be mean to a man, you initiate, you move things forward, you carry the emotional lane in the relationship, and without even realizing it, You close the polarity gap. So what happens next? It's not that he steps up. In fact, he starts to lean back, not because he's a bad guy or he's trying to hurt you, but because the dynamic doesn't require him to rise. Now, when you stop doing that, you create space again. And that space, that is what activates his pursuit. Now, I do want to be very clear about something, because this is where a lot of the online influencer content can get confusing and even harmful. Masculine men are not turned off by a woman who's not over-functioning for them. In fact, masculine men love our boundaries. They love our self-containment. They love our self-respect. They don't think when we say no, oh, she's cold. They actually think she's self-respecting and she has confidence. They don't think when you don't pick up their call, oh, she is so rude. They think she has a life. They respect such a woman. They rise for such a woman. They invest effort into such a woman. Only men who will struggle with a woman like this are men who want the lowest hanging fruit in the dating market. These men don't want to make effort. They want convenience. They want women who will give them their physical assets, their energy, their time, and without him having to work too hard for it. What these men want. is access without effort. And those are not your men, at least not the men I would want for you as my client or as a woman in my community. So when you stop overgiving or over-functioning for men, you're never pushing the right man away. You are filtering for him. Now let's take this one step even deeper, because this is where love actually locks in. Men don't fall in love because of what you give them. They fall in love because of what they invest in you. When he calls you, when he plans a date for you, when he invests his time, energy, money into you, that's when his emotional attachment is building. But when you do all of that in the name of not trying to be the mean girl, he receives your benefits, but he does not bond himself. Because remember, he's not investing his time, energy, or resources. He's just receiving yours. And when you don't allow a man to invest in you or work hard for you because you're too afraid of being seen as rude or mean or cold, you simply prevent him from bonding with you. So again, this is not about being mean. This is about being the woman who doesn't over-function in love so that she doesn't kill polarity, so that she holds the space for a man to move towards her And invest in her. Now, this, in my experience, is the part most women miss. So keep watching, because even though you can hear everything I just said, you can still not get results. Why? Because it's not just what you do, it's the energy you do it from. You can not text a man but still think about him all day. You can say no but still feel anxious inside about drawing your boundaries. You can pull back But secretly hope he notices and comes back. Now, this is not power. Even if you think you are playing the cool girl, you are still being the woman who is pouring all her energy, emotional and mental, into a man who is clearly not stepping up for her. But on the other hand, the woman who gets pursued, she's not mean. She's just calm, self-oriented. She loves her life, and she knows she'll be okay no matter what. Whether he calls or he doesn't call. So she never centers the man. She always keeps herself as the center of her life. She's not performing for his attention. She's not waiting in the waiting room for him to call. She's not chasing him. And this is what makes her magnetic. She's not mean. She's just magnetic because she's self-focused. So let's make this practical. He doesn't call when he says he will. You don't double text. You don't chase. You observe. He pulls back. You don't lean in more. Never. You lean back into your own life. He's inconsistent. You don't try harder. You raise your standards, and slowly the dynamic will shift because you're no longer overfunctioning. Now, what's important to remember is when you make these shifts in yourself, sometimes it will feel like you are being mean. And all you have to remember is that you're not being mean. You are simply rewiring your system. As an overgiver, as somebody who overfunctions in love, you are learning the new healthy way of showing up in love. And sometimes that will feel uncomfortable, but not because you're doing something wrong, but because you are actually healing. So let's wrap this up by saying you don't need to be mean to men in order to be loved. However, you do need to stop self-abandoning, and you do need to stop over-functioning for men, because the truth is, the more you overgive, the less a man values you. And the more you value yourself instead, the more he will rise up to meet you. And that shift, that is the game changer, especially if you're a high-achieving woman. Now, if you've been watching this video and thinking, oh my goodness, Sami, this is so me, I know this, but still I keep overthinking with men, I still keep overgiving when I like a guy, and I still feel so stuck in my love life. Well, then I want you to take this next step. Take my free Love Blocks Diagnostic Quiz. Because here's the truth: you're not stuck because you don't know enough.
