In padel, the lob is an attacking shot to take the net, not a defensive last resort like in tennis. Start by practicing lobs from easy situations like short balls, then build defensive skills. Pro players dominate because they drill the lob constantly.

A major difference between tennis and padel is this idea of lobbing. Don't be a desperate lobber and only use the lob when you're in extreme defense. In padel, the lob is an attacking shot. It's an opportunity for you to take the net. So what you want to do is try and get yourself into a good position so that you get an easier ball. An easier ball either is a short ball or it's a ball that bounces higher off the back glass and use the lob in that scenario because then it's going to be easy for you to take the net position. When you want to get a really good tactical game and you want to implement your strategy, I highly recommend learning to lob off the easy balls first. And when you get good at that and good at taking the net, then you learn to be an effective lobber in defense. Part of the reason the pros are so good at the lob is because they practice it. And part of the reason that over half the drills in our drill book are with the lob is because it is such an important part of the game. If you want to get good at lobbing, you need to do drills, you need to put it into training, into practice.
