Simple Way to Transform Your Bandeja & Vibora

Sandy Farquharson breaks down footwork and contact mechanics for the bandeja and vibora in padel. He uses shadow swings and the SpinPro machine to teach proper positioning and spin generation, then walks through drill sequences that fix common errors like dropping your elbow.

In this video, we are going to improve your bandeja and vibora without even stepping on court with the help of my newfound friend. The majority of players really struggle with 2 main areas. One is the footwork to give themselves a good position by the ball, and the next is the contact, getting that in the right place and having the right brush on that ball. So let's work on it and jump off court. So we are here off court and we're going to work on our footwork first, so getting the right movement pattern for both bandeja and vibora. We have our ready position, we want to pivot with this outside step, crossover step, come back and play our shot. Now as a bandeja, we'll play like this, but the same with the vibora, we pivot, crossover step, And play with our Vibora like this. So before we need to worry about a ball contact, we want to make sure that we're in a good position here and we're playing. So a few shadow swings where we're going to get this right, and the repetition is key. Yeah, we can even add a volley, a little shadow volley pivot. And this is something we do a lot with our members. We give off-court exercises to improve Their technique so they can get repetitions and build this up at home. These footwork patterns are going to become muscle memory, therefore you become more mechanical, you don't have to think about it on the court. Once we've got good footwork, we are then going to approach the contact and getting in the right position for the ball. We're working with SpinPro, our partner for our off-court exercises, to help you get your contact position and the right spin on the ball. So I'm putting the Spin Pro so the ball is about forehead level, and I can adjust the height here from there, and I also can adjust the arm. And I'm going to have this slightly tilted to the right because I want slice, but also I know I'm coming around the ball ever so slightly. And I'm going to get myself into a position here with a nice racket up so that I can brush through that ball. Now Spin Pro is designed as a teaching aid that you can use at home to get a good distance from the ball, but also to get the right brush on the contact. And that's really what I'm looking for. The more repetitions I build up through this, and you can see this ball spinning now because it's got slice on it, the more repetitions I use here, the easier it's gonna be when I get back onto court. And it's forcing me to have my arm up. If we see the common errors, players with the elbow down and they go up to the ball, it's not gonna have the same spin, or even it's gonna have end up being a little bit of topspin on that ball, which is not what we're looking for. We want the arm up and we're going to brush down through that ball so we can have the slice on the contact. The more repetitions, the more comfortable I'm going to feel when we get onto the court. So now what I want to do is add it a little bit more realistic. I'm going to start in front of the machine, I'm going to do a shadow volley, and then I'm going to move back and play my bandeja. Now I've put this little marker here Just so I am careful of this outside leg, I want to make sure I go around that. So I'm going to volley, do the footwork that I need, get back for this ball, and play through the ball. Shadow volley, back, contact through the ball. So much of this is players not getting back far enough, and therefore the contact is behind them. But here we're working on this bandeja coming through in that position. Backhand volley shadow, pivot, Move back, bandeja, volley, pivot, come back. The more repetitions I build up of going back quickly, playing the bandeja, and recovering fast, that is exactly what you need to do when you're playing this bandeja in a match. So we're practicing the technique for the bandeja, let's get back onto court and now let's put it with the ball actually coming from a lob so we can put that technique into action. So when we're looking at the bandeja, we're focusing on 2 areas. First, footwork into position. Secondly, contact with space to the side so we can brush Push down that ball and try and keep it low at the other end. Always had a way to make it work and find another ground. So now let's do the Vibora. I'm going to change the height slightly, so I'm just going to bring this down just a tiny bit, and I'm also going to turn this so it's more horizontal, so we're at the side there a little bit more, because the focus for me now is to brush around the outside of the ball. As of today, the Spin Pro for Padel is now available. You can use the code TPS10 for a 10% discount, and it comes with our course when you buy one of these machines that you can then use at home. I'll put the link down below in the description if you want to already start improving your game from home and get that perfect spin on the ball. So we're using the same footwork pattern where we're pivoting, crossover step, getting behind the ball, and now we're going to focus on the contact for the Vibora. So most importantly with the Vibora is we want this lovely sidespin on the ball because that's going to be difficult for our opponents To defend. So we're going to get good position away from the ball. We're going to start with the racket almost touching the back of the head, and we're going to brush around the side of this ball, really throwing the racket into this sidespin. And you can see here, you've got the guide here, and we're really pushing that ball around the side of that guide so we can get a nice brush on that ball. And this will create a very difficult ball For our opponents to defend at the other end. Part of this is just going from this position and throwing the racket and staying relaxed with the arm, nice and relaxed. Now I want to make this realistic to a game, so I'm going to have a volley first. I'm then going to pivot again, crossover step, get in position, and throw the racket At the ball. Volley, rotate, come back, brush around that ball. Technical volley, back fast, in position, going for the sidespin. Getting good position, you see how my body weight is going forward into that Vibora. Volley, back, getting in position, and look at that lovely spin that we're getting on that ball. And if you're one of our members, you also know to do the split Step as you're going as well. We work a lot on footwork with our members, an important part of the preparation and technique. And we're again brushing around that ball. The more you practice this of throwing the racket at the ball and you get the accuracy, you create the spin, it's going to make it so much easier when you step on court. You can't practice this in a match because you never get the ball in the right place, you never get repetition that you need to build the technique properly. So with this vibora, we're looking at the footwork to get behind that ball, and then a nice relaxed arm throw so we can get that brush on the ball and create the spin we're looking for.
