Playing slower volleys wins more points than hitting hard. Use lobs and the chiquita, a soft shot to your opponent's feet, to control net position and give yourself time to transition from baseline to net.

The third tip, and this is aligned with court position, and this is also aligned with working out the spaces on the court, is learn to play slow. It's very tempting to come in and hit fast, and it's very satisfying when you hit a big smash, there's a powerful pop on the racket and it bounces off the glass and you win a point. But the majority of points are won by controlling the net position, and to do that you need to really lob or chiquita to get to the net. The chiquita is a soft shot down to the feet, and then when you here, you still want to position them out of court. It is not a game of power. This will also help you maintain a good court position. If you play slower, it gives you more time to reposition at the back of the court or to transition to come to the net. But either way, playing slow helps you develop your court position and also develop the points in a strategic way.
