4 IDEAS YOU CAN "STEAL" to instantly improve your website's "About Us" page

Sandy Waggett of MSW Interactive Designs demonstrates four practical ways to improve an "About Us" web page by showing her own site: (1) immediate social proof via a live review slider widget, (2) a clear call to action (CTA) visible in the upper-right, (3) an on-page video that provides value and personal connection, and (4) customer-focused staff bios plus additional social proof (awards), hours, and contact info. She emphasizes writing benefits in terms of the customer and making it easy to hire, and closes with a contact phone number.

Hey everyone. Sandy Waggett with MSW Interactive Designs. And today I'm here with another marketing tip. We started talking about what to include on your website as part of a series in the last week and I did a video a few days ago about things to consider to really rock your About Us page. And one of the most important points that I tried to get across is that when someone visits your About Us page, they're generally already considering hiring you. You've already convinced them that you can solve the problem. Now they're trying to decide if you're the best choice to solve the problem. And that's why they go to the About Us page usually to learn a little bit more about the team, the business and, and stuff like that. So I'm going to share my screen and I am going to show you some things on the MSW Interactive Designs About Us page that you might be able to emulate to improve your own About Us page. So here we go. I am on our About Us page and the first thing you see is the social proof. So up here at the top we have a review scrolling slider and this is actually a service we provide. So if someone were to write a review online and let's say the next 10 minutes, this, it would actually show up in real time here. So this is actually pretty cool widget and we can manage all of our reviews from one place. But the idea of having it on your About Us page is, is that it provides immediate social proof. And then of course we've got the call to action which I like to see in the upper right hand corner on every page of the website. So I want to talk about why I work with us in terms of the customer and then I always want to make sure that there is a call to action on the page. Most people forget the call to action on the About Us page. But again, you have to keep in mind that when someone visits your About Us page they are considering working with you. So you want to make it super easy. Now the other thing that I've added to our About Us page is this video. There's two reasons for that. I put it on here because number one, it provides some value to the visitor. There's a little educational piece, some free consulting if you will. And then also the video provides some connection because there's a real person, you can, you can see me. Not that you want to see me personally, but you, you can see someone on the team and get a feel for, you know, how they are. The other thing I want to Point out is how we wrote our bios. So instead of just spouting off, you know, 3 degrees and X number of years, we try to talk about what that means in terms of the customer and why it matters. So if you look at mine, you know, yeah, I've been doing it since 1999, but here's what it means in terms of a customer. I've seen a lot of and experienced a lot, so that makes me a great ally. When you are talking about marketing your business online with Rebecca's, if you have a question, she either has or will get you the answer. And with Karen, Karen oversees the social media team to ensure your goals are met. So all of the bios on our website start with something that is in terms of the customer and how the customer benefits from that experience and that role. The other thing I want to point out is down at the bott, we have some other social proof and they're not testimonials, but these are awards that the team has won. And then, of course, on every page, you want your hours and your contact us and and whatnot. So I'm going to stop sharing my screen. And here's one thing that I love for you to take away and take action on today. Go look at your about Us page. And when you look at your About Us page, two things I want you to critically evaluate. Number one, do you have a call to action so that if someone wants to hire you right then and there, can they do it? And then the second thing is in the writing about your business, are you writing in terms of the customer and how it benefits the customer or is it just all about you? If it's all about you, you want to make a change there, it's something we can help you with. We've got expert writers on our team, so if we can help, give us a call. 573-552-8403. Sandy Wyatt with MSW Interactive Designs signing off. Have a great day.
