Short YouTube marketing tip by Sandy Wardenburg Waggett (MSW Interactive Designs) summarizing a chapter from Alan Dibb's The One Page Marketing Plan. Advises small businesses to treat brand as the business’s personality (ask what the business 'wears', who it associates with, how it communicates) and emphasizes that branding is formed after the sale — it’s the customer experience and word-of-mouth.

Good morning, everyone. Sandy Weigt here with MSW Interactive Designs. And I've got another marketing tip for you today. This one comes from the OnePage marketing plan, a book by Alan Dibb. It's a great book, by the way. Pick it up. And he talks about in one of his chapters what branding is. And I know we've done a video on this before, but this is a little bit different perspective and I really like it. When it comes to small businesses, sometimes we get confused about branding. We think we need to be like the flashy Coca Colas of the world and the apples. And that's really not true. And what Alan Dibbs says is that we should think of our brand as the personality of our business. So literally, if you think of your business as a person, what is the person's name? What does the person wear? Oh, that's awesome. My dog's drinking in the background. Anyway, what's the person's name? What does the person wear? How does the person communicate? What's the person's core values? Who does the person associate with? And is the person well known? All those things. When you think about your brand as a person, really bring clarity into what branding is. And the most key takeaway to me in that chapter is that he makes the point that branding actually occurs after the sale. Branding is not something that you do to entice people to buy from you. It's the experience that they have with your business and how they talk about it. So keep that in mind as you think about your business brand. It's after the sale and how people talk about you and what they think of you. Have a great day. Sandy Wagy with MSW Interactive Design signing off.
