A short marketing-tip video by Sandy Wardenburg Waggett arguing that a newsletter/subscriber list is a critical, owned business asset because it is 100% permission-based. The speaker contrasts owned email lists with rented social media followings, emphasizes the long-term value of subscribers, and urges businesses to prioritize building their list (particularly before the year-end).

Good morning everyone. Sandy Weigt here with MSW Interactive Designs. And today I'm here with another marketing tip. So I want to talk about newsletters and you know, if you were to Google, why should I have a newsletter? You're going to find things like it helps you stay top of mind, it helps you connect with your customers and it drives sales. And those are all true and they're all great reasons to have a newsletter. But I want to talk about a deeper reason and why it's critical for every business to have a newsletter and a subscriber list. So as a company, that can ultimately become your biggest asset for the longevity of your business because it is 100% permission based. So permit permission based marketing is basically an earned asset and it gives you the opportunity, when someone has elected to hear your message, it gives you the opportunity to educate, be valuable to your client base and your subscribers and of course to continue marketing to them. So the difference and the importance in my mind between newsletters and a social media following is that your social media following is simply rented. Yes, it's permission based because people have opted to like your page, but, but you do not own that asset. Whereas with a subscription list of people who have opted in to hear what you have to say, they're giving you permission to contact them very much like social media. But your business then owns that asset, that subscriber, that email address and that has incredible value over the life of the relationship with that prospect or customer. So if you are not doing something now to build your subscriber list, make that a priority for the last quarter of this year, you need to have a subscriber list and stay in touch with your customers on a regular basis. That's real permission marketing and it is the best kind of marketing. Sandy Waggett with MSW Interactive Designs. Have a great day.
