Sandy Wardenburg Waggett explains why email lists matter for your business: you own the list, subscribers buy more, you can pivot messaging fast (like restaurants pivoting to curbside pickup), and email positions you as an expert.

Good morning, everyone. Sandy Weiga here with MSW Interactive Designs. And we are still talking about marketing during crisis today. I want to give you one thing that you can do during the downtime of this crisis, if you're not already doing it. That will definitely position you on the other side of this to better market your business, and that is to have an email list. If you don't have a mechanism in place to intentionally and purposefully grow an email list of customers and prospects, now's the time to do that. I've got four reasons that this is super important. The first one is, aside from your website, your email list is really the only thing that you own and control. So your website and your email list, you own those, you control those, you're not dependent on another platform for that. The second one is subscribers to your email list are definitely more likely to make purchases from you. Existing customers will make repeat purchases, and people who have opted in are more likely to make purchases from your business when they receive an email from you. The third one is it allows you to easily pivot your message. And if you think about it, during times like this, with the coronavirus and everything that's going on in the world, the number of businesses that have really had to pivot how they do business and how they deliver their products and services to customers is crazy. And having that email list allows them to pivot and get that word out really, really fast. Between social media and the email lists are able to communicate with their customers. And a perfect example is restaurants, right? So a lot of them are doing curbside pickup Here at Lake of the Ozarks, where we're very seasonal, we're on the water. These waterfront bars normally open this time of year to big crowds. Now they can't. So what they're doing is doing dockside pickup. Having an email list allows them to pivot that message and get the word out to customers and still generate an income during this difficult time for everyone. The fourth one is that email positions you as the expert. So email is super personal. It builds trust. And people who have subscribed to to your email list are going to open those emails. And ultimately, as you're driving more traffic to your website, getting people to open the emails, marketing, communicating, and positioning yourself as the expert in what you do, you're going to make more money. So while you've got some time, if you don't have a mechanism in place to intentionally and purposefully grow an email list and use it, then this would be the time to do that. If we can help you in any way, please, please reach out to us at MSW Interactive Designs. We put the web to work for you. I hope this finds you well, and have a great day. Sandy Waggett signing off.
