Jeff said knowing yourself is harder than it sounds. The speaker argues you should do the hardest internal work first—building self-awareness and responsibility—because everything else becomes easier after. Most people do urgent tasks first and make their lives harder.

On Monday's call, Jeff said something really insightful. You know, when I said it begins with know thyself, and I was referencing all the ancient spiritual and philosophical tradition that says you have to know who you are before you can know what you want. And he said, yeah, but know thyself is really hard. Bingo! And what do we say? Do the hard part first. Because if you do the hard part first, everything that comes after that can be done with much more ease. And what happens is we do the, the, the urgent part first, and because we haven't done the hard part first of, of the self-awareness and the self-efficacy and the personal responsibility, we end up making the parts that actually aren't the hard part much, much harder because we're coming at them without the self-awareness and the self-efficacy and the personal responsibility that's required if we're going to do those things successfully with more ease and, um, in less time.
