Work is how most people find meaning in life, not just a way to pay bills. The speaker argues against trading your time to a corporation like Amazon for money to buy things, and instead pushes you toward work that actually matters to you.

there's no distinction to me between living and working. Working is merely the exchange of energy. You're investing time, attention, money, and effort— that's all energy— into making a change happen. If you want to do that for Amazon in a cubicle in exchange for some filthy lucre that maybe buys you enough drink, drugs, entertainment to dull your pain for not actually doing something meaningful with your life, fine, play your game. But for most of us, what we do for a living is what provides us with a sense of meaning, significance, and fulfillment in our life.
