We cling to identities for certainty and belonging, but over-identifying with a role traps you. Take your chosen roles seriously while staying curious enough to change them.
what we are talking about is shifting identities. And whether we are compelled or called to shift an identity, it is very easy to get caught up in what I call the identity trap. It is very easy for us as human beings, because we crave certainty, we crave belonging, and we crave identity, to cling to roles as if they are a complete story in and of themselves. Um, and so I think it's important that we choose our roles carefully, that we take our roles seriously, and at the same time that we remain curious enough to not cling to them
