Sean Everett breaks down what top talent actually wants: high pay, meaningful impact, and autonomy. Most jobs offer only one or two. He explains how to design systems where people do work they love, get paid well, and see real impact.

Well, it's Friday, y'all. We did it. Congratulations. Welcome to the almost weekend. Today we're going to talk about 3 requirements. So I've been talking, as product managers do, to a number of friends in the startup world, creatives, engineers, you name it, right? And I've come to the conclusion that there's 3 primary requirements that really world-class talent has. Number 1, I want to get paid a lot of money. Pretty self-explanatory. I think everybody does. Number 2, I want to work on something with impact. Makes sense. I don't want to do something that doesn't help other people. And the 3rd one, which is a little bit more difficult, is I want to work on my own thing. So that creates a triangle. And what is really difficult is finding all 3. I get paid a lot, I have a big impact on life, and thirdly, I'm doing the thing that I love or was born to do and can do forever until the end of time. And that's hard. So really what happens is people end up compromising. And so they're only able to optimize 1 out of those 3 things, perhaps 2 out of those 3 things. And so really the pathway in the past has been become a billionaire, then give away all your money for impact. So you got a lot of money, then impact, and then they end up teaching other people things, which is like what they really want to do. And that's a crapshoot because the probability that you're going to become a billionaire is very, very low, like winning the billion-dollar lottery. And on top of that, it's even if you do do that, you're waiting Decades before you get to the thing you really want to do. So why wait? Why not just go straight there? Well, then the problem becomes, well, I could do what I want to do, but I can't get paid right now, and I've got bills, family obligations, debt, student loans. So it becomes very difficult. So the question then is, how do we design and develop a better system that lets a lot of people do what they were meant to do Get paid a lot of money to do it and have a big impact on the world positively, hopefully not dictatorships. So that's what we've been working on. everettadvisors.com/talent. More to come in that area, but it should be fun. And in the meantime, at least we'll get to, you know, party on Wayne and party on Garth. All right, y'all, that's it for today. Have a great weekend, get some rest, and keep fighting the good fight. See you next time. See you later. And now a word from our sponsor. Just kidding. I sponsored this myself. So anyways, a former colleague reached out and they're looking for a senior product person who wants to work at the intersection of software and storytelling in the Hollywood space. So if that's something that perhaps interests you, you've got a little expertise in, a few years of experience, reach out everettadvisors.com/contact or SeanMEverett on Twitter. It'll go fast. Holler back. Thanks, Sean. Peace.
