How do you improve employee engagement as an effective leader? Well, first you need to understand exactly what employee engagement really means. I'm sure you're familiar with the Gallup poll that has showed that globally workers are about 80% disengaged. And so yes, in order to improve your team performance or productivity, you need to make sure that you're engaging those employees, whether in-person or hybrid. But employee engagement is a whole lot simpler than you might think. Employee engagement is very simply how much people care about the results their efforts are contributing to. Now the issue is that in many of the organizations that I work with as a coach or as a facilitator or speaker, leaders haven't connected the dots to help their people see how what they do each day from their role and their position affects somebody or affects something that they care about. So your job, if you want to improve employee engagement, is to help people connect the dots to two things: how does what they do end up impacting the mission, the compelling common goal that you've defined, and how does what they do affect people that they care about? I'm Sean Glaze. That's what effective leaders do.
