So how do you build trust with employees as an effective leader? Well, it has everything to do with the painting by Pieter Bruegel entitled The Fall of Icarus. If you've ever seen the painting, the most imposing image on the canvas is a farmer wearing red. It's the largest individual in the painting. That's what you notice, and the farmer is plowing his fields, going about his daily activities. But in the far bottom right-hand corner of the painting, is Icarus, who has fallen to earth because he got too close to the sun and the wax melted, and he's kicking his legs and drowning without anyone noticing because people were busy with their own activities. It's the same way for you and your employees. If you truly want to build trust with your people, you need to stop checking off things from your to-do list and start spending more time checking on the people that you are serving and seeing how you can support them and understand better what their challenges and needs might be. I'm Sean Glaze. That's what effective leaders do.
