The excerpt is a short leadership/advice segment (single speaker labeled "SPEAKER A") arguing that leaders should avoid asking "why" questions because they invite backward-looking blame and negative assumptions ("rearview criticisms"), and should instead ask "what" and "how" questions to focus on forward-looking solutions.

I love Simon Sinek, but I would encourage you to not start with why. They're not effective questions when you think about changing your beliefs as a leader. Questions that start with why usually invite negative assumptions. Think about how that might sound in your head, in your role. Why didn't I get that account? Why hasn't that client returned my proposal? Why didn't Tom finish that report? See, why questions tend to lead us into negative beliefs, and I call them rearview criticisms because a lot of times when we ask why, we look backward to blame and to criticize, and you don't want to be a leader who practices rearview criticisms. That's what why questions invite us to do. Instead, ask what or how. What and how questions look ahead at solutions.
