A 15-minute exercise where team members write one thing they wish colleagues understood about their role, then read the cards aloud. It surfaces hidden pressures and replaces assumptions with empathy, no budget needed.

Want to improve your team in just 15 minutes? Try this empathy exercise. Give each person on your team an index card and very simply have them write down one thing that they wish their teammates understood about their role, the challenges, the hidden work, the things they worry about each day. Then have each person share their index card out loud. What happens is remarkable. People start saying things like, "I had no idea you were dealing with that," or That's the moment empathy replaces assumptions. Effective leaders know that empathy is the one thing that drives all personal accountability. The activity costs you nothing—no consultant fee, no retreat budget, just 15 minutes of intentional conversation. Try it at your next team meeting. Then message me what happened.
