So what exactly is the ladder of leadership awareness? Well, if you want to be a more effective leader, part of your job skill set is going to be to solve problems and put out fires. But in order to do that, you first need to recognize that the most important trait you can have as a leader isn't confidence or optimism or empathy. Those are all important, but the most important thing you can be as a leader is aware. In order to solve problems, you need to climb that ladder of leadership awareness and understand that there are 4 different levels of awareness that you'll need to be familiar with if you want to solve problems effectively. That first level is unaware. It means that you're clueless. You don't realize that there is a problem that you need to address. The second level is about being symptom aware. You see the damage that something is causing, but you don't know where that damage is coming from. The third level is problem aware. You understand what is causing the issue. And the fourth level is solution aware. You understand how to solve the problem so it doesn't affect your team in the future. If you want to get better as a leader, climb the ladder of leadership awareness. I'm Sean Glaze, and that's what effective leaders do.
