So what movie provides the best example of an effective leader? One of my favorite movies is admittedly not very well known. It's a Western starring John Wayne, and it isn't his most popular, and it didn't win any Academy Awards, but I think that it shares an example of exactly what your job is as an effective leader. See, as a speaker and trainer and coach, one thing that I share with leaders regardless of industry is that their job is not to do everything well. Effective leaders equip and empower others to claim ownership and develop skills that they can contribute to accomplish a compelling common goal. The job of a great leader, just like a great parent, is to grow the people they're responsible for so that ultimately they become unnecessary, in a sense. And John Wayne, in his 1972 movie The Cowboys, is exceptional in overcoming the loss of employees and developing the people around him into an exceptional Team. Leave a comment to share the movie that you thought of.
