It explores how this fear impacts leadership and project completion, emphasizing learning from mistakes and fostering a positive, forgiving culture in teams and individuals. The speaker uses examples from sports and business to illustrate these points, aiming to help viewers understand and overcome this resistance pattern to unlock their potential.
18. Let's start with the resistance pattern. Self sacrificing fear of mistakes and fear of finishing projects. So essentially this is a fear, this is really based in a fear of I can't mess it up again. And that holds a person back from their true genius talent, which is the ability to lead the completion of large complicated projects. But in the resistance pattern, the fear of making mistakes ends up preventing and slowing down the finishing of projects. Because when the project is out and quote, unquote complete, then the person who led it could be analyzed. Did they make a mistake? Did they mess it up? Was it all, was it all worthless? Essentially is the energy there? Because it's like, okay, once the, once the project is completed, then I will be judged, did I make any mistakes? But as long as the project is around 80%, then there's this notion that if there's any mistakes, well, we can still work it out. So the key here is to learn to forgive oneself and to realize that it's not the end of the world when mistakes are made. And that's actually part of the process of advancing forward. And not only is it a necessary process, but it can be a very positive process. You know, my grandpa Jack has a, has a quote that he says that when he was leading, when he was leading teams on projects, says to the people, you know, you can make all the mistakes you want, just don't make the same one twice. And that's the key here because of course nobody wants to make mistakes, but it's going to happen and naturally it's just going to happen. So it's giving people permission on a level to do that and to then learn from it. Make sure you learn from it. Because the opposite, if a person is uptight, if a team is uptight and they're afraid of making mistakes, and we see this in sports, if a team is too uptight and they're afraid of making mistakes, what happens? They don't play well because they're locked up their rigidity in the. But they're out of the flow. And in business, this is what happens. The person has got rigidity in the body and fear of making mistakes, and that actually creates more mistakes. So it's allowing oneself to realize that mistakes are going to be made. Okay, well, let's just learn from them as fast as possible. Let's do everything we can in our power to make sure that we mitigate those mistakes. And of course we're striving to not make mistakes. And that's just part of the process. So let's have a culture of learning from it as fast as possible and moving forward. You know, there's a, a scenario of Warren Buffett, and I don't remember the exact details of it, but essentially one of his top executives that, you know, manager, manages the huge conglomerate of companies that he has made a mistake that cost them like an obscene amount of money. And it was just like it was unheard of. We're talking like it was just a lot. So I don't remember the exact details of it, but it was a staggering amount. And people were shocked because Warren Buffett counted as a mistake. Asked where he learned from it, and then he continued, whereas other people would be like, all right, well he's fired, he's done. But it really just goes to show that you have the people that you're betting on, you know, that people are going to make mistakes, but let's learn from it. And obviously there's certain mistakes if you make, then you know, there's no coming back from that. But within the general scope of business needs to be done like, you know, needs to be a culture of being able to move forward. So with this for yourself, take a look at what fears of mistakes you have and work on letting those go. And a way that can help letting those go is having a process of like, okay, if I make a mistake, what's my procedure to learn from it, to extract the value from it and move on? Because that's ultimately what needs to happen here. Because the 18 in its genius talent is the ability to lead the completion of large complicated projects like you see. And that comes from being able to make hard decisions. And those hard decisions there's going to be, you know, oftentimes with the hardest decision there's going to be, it's not a clear cut way and there's going to be challenges either way. So it's being okay with that. It's knowing that that's just part of leading a large complex project. Deciding what's going to be best and then learning from the rest. So the goal is to trust yourself and to learn that there actually are no true mistakes. There's just learning opportunities. And that'll help loosen the resistance pattern, which the resistance pattern can feel like everything is life or death. And that's why there's the self sacrificing that goes on to make sure that none of these things happen because it feels like it's life or death. So as you learn to forgive yourself from those mistakes, and you can forgive yourself from those mistakes by learning from them. That's really the core way, because we can't just expect to let them go if we don't learn from it. But when we learn from it, when we say, okay, this is what I got from it, this is how I can use it to make myself a better person and help other people, then it becomes easier to let those go. And as we do that for ourselves, we allow, unconsciously and consciously, we can lead others in the team to do that, and that makes a more effective team, more relaxed team. In sports teams, you can just see that the relaxed intensity of teams that are willing to go through the flow. It's the positive culture that if somebody makes, say, okay, pick them back up, let's learn from it. Let's move forward. Because in the course of a game, there's gonna be mistakes made, there's gonna be bad breaks, but the team that wins consistently is the team that stays unified within that and learns from them fast and continues moving. And that's ultimately what you're here to do. And this is also the ability. And as that happens, more and more, a person's futuristic mind starts opening up more and more of seeing the vision of what can be done with that team. Because before, it's almost like there's a veil over the vision, because there's this cloud of like, well, what if there's mistakes? And the genius talent, it just incorporates that into the. The expansion, the continued forward movement. And it's also important to notice when you get 80% of the job done, 80% of the project done, just notice for that little resistance pattern, they'll start feeling, oh, let's not finish it. Because then, you know, we'll basically be on trial for whether we made the job or not, whether we succeeded or not. So the more that you punch through that last 20%, the more and more the gift, the ease, the naturalness will kick.
