Beachside Dinner with mike melton in Aruba !

Mike Melton and friends have dinner on an Aruba beach and talk trucking: CSA points, wheel-seal leaks, different load types, and the high pay for government contracts hauling nuclear components or weapons. They cover permits, pilot cars, and Super Sleeper trucks between jokes about bread and the Coast Guard.

And for you, Mom? Um, I would like, um, what's the difference between the small and the regular of the salmon? The small is the 4 oz. Okay, one piece. Okay, um, I think I can just do the small salmon. The small salmon? Yeah. Okay, what is the order for you? Um, this little girl right here, she wants Um, the chicken tenders. Chicken tenders? Yeah, with french fries and ketchup, not honey mustard. Okay.
Oh shit, let me get a— let me get 2 sides of the grilled chicken, the 2 6-ounce chickens.
Uh, grilled chicken?
Yeah, grilled chicken. Tell me to go ahead and slice it up for me.
With, huh, grilled chicken with—
yeah, grilled, grilled chicken. Just a side of grilled chicken.
Yes. Oh no, that's crazy!
What happened?
And that was on livestream. You never know what you going to see out here.
Very cold. Get a different chair. You all right, Mom? It's her fault. I don't know, I think so. Here, Mom, you want mine? Oh yeah, look, look, girlfriend, what you doing?
Goddamn, what are you doing? I mean, you can't move the— you can't move the chairs.
Keep it rolling, Mike. Keep it rolling.
No, I'm doing— trying to do something else.
You can't take the Meltons anywhere. Oh yeah, she kind of had waterproof pants on. Yeah, that's true. Still got wet.
Wait, what even did happen?
She knocked Chima's water over. Well, she moved the menu. She meant to open the menu and it just knocked the whole—
I'm glad I wasn't sitting there.
Oh yeah, yeah, out of everybody had to hit you.
That's all right, it's part of the experience.
Hey, I put your battery pack in here. Okay, your battery pack. Oh, we throw those in there?
What about that?
I don't need that right now.
Well, I mean, that goes in there.
That girl, you know, she was doing it. Might as well be me too.
Yeah, you can say you have a juicer now.
There you go.
Just all the way up in there.
All right, you ready to try it out again? Stay away, stay away from the damn menus and the water.
She's trying to understand what you need. 2 portions of the chicken breast?
Yes, 2, 2 6-ounce chicken breasts.
With what?
With a side of rice. With a side of rice. With a side of rice.
With the rice? Yeah, just plain rice?
Yep, 2, 2 6-ounce chicken breasts. Have them cut them up for me and a side of rice. You can't make it no simpler than that.
Yeah, I would say tell them to take a knife and cut it.
If not, I can cut it. Oh, let me get a little side of ketchup too.
We tried to wipe it off as much as we could.
I think your OtterBox protected it pretty well. I think so.
That's about the first time you got wet in years, huh? What? I always just say what's on my mind.
And no, will you— can I have the same thing? Mighty, you know, but you want honey mustard.
They always try to keep me from saying what I need to say.
The menu is for her. She's just allergic to pretty much everything on the menu. Yeah, but no allergy to chicken tenders. She can eat chicken, she can't eat shrimp, nuts, any of that stuff.
Okay, as long as it ain't cooking the fried thing, same thing as fried chicken or fried fish.
All right, she would like the chicken tender. Yeah, it's not cooked with any of the fish, right? It's not near the fish. Yeah, because the chicken tender coming to, uh, and the same fry with the coconut She's allergic to what? Fish, fish, shellfish, nuts.
Yeah, she needs to selection chicken breast, steak, chicken breast.
Like steak is good separate because the— yeah, then the fry is coming, the coconut shrimp, coconut grouper, the french fries. French fries are too— french fries. I, I recommend that chicken breast because I know they don't cook like on the grill. You want the steak? No, I just want the chicken. Are you sure?
Let's get the chicken. Start the chicken or steak.
They got grilled chicken. The fries aren't fried. The fries are fried separately. Do you want the fries?
Sure. The fries are separately.
I wouldn't. I wouldn't either, because who's to say they didn't use the oil? I wouldn't do it. Okay, is that going to be enough for you? Chicken on it or anything?
No, she'll eat some yogurt when we get back.
We'll go through McDonald's on the way home. That's okay.
Nah, we're going to McDonald's on the way home. Oh, uh, can I have the 8 oz fillet?
You know what's one of the best things at McDonald's? What is it? What do you think it is?
Best thing? Are we talking like healthy or like—
no, just like something that's good. And no vegetables, and it can't be a hamburger. No, no veggies or a fry.
Do you want the potatoes or you want to substitute for fries?
No, the hot apple pies. And then can I substitute? They are some of the best.
So mashed— the Creole potato for French fries?
Yeah, I like the fruit pies better. Yeah, uh, they have a blueberry and cream one right now. Never had a strawberry and cream one.
Yeah, yeah, the only one I ever known that had the apple pie.
Is the passion salad— oh, I got the, got the Patty, helicopter coming in. Can I get that to you?
I might be the Coast Guard.
Coast Guard? Huh? Coast Guard? Are they rescuing somebody?
That would be pretty cool if they did it right here, right?
They're like the police of the ocean. Pretty low. Yeah, it is low.
They're looking for something. It's expensive to bring that out there if they ain't looking for something.
All right, I will send the Caesar and the passion salad, sorry, and the watermelon salad. I will send it first. Okay, okay.
Can we bring it like, uh, can we order some bread?
They don't have bread anymore.
Oh, no bread.
I need to go to check it out if we have. If we have, I will request. Yeah, thank you so much.
We don't mind paying for it if they'll make it, you know. If not, no big deal.
Thank you.
You good, girl?
Oh yeah, it does look like they're landing.
How'd the, uh, how'd the class go today? Oh, it sucked. Oh yeah, yeah.
Worst thing you can ever do is anything with a truck driver. Yeah, they just talk and they talk.
So it was another truck driver just teaching the class or something?
Yeah, so it's actually Landstar, the people in the office They give safety classes. So we had a wheel seal leak on one of our inside tires, so it put out a little bit of oil. I got a violation for that, so I have to take the mandatory class because we got CSA points because of it.
So, well, that's uncontrollable on you, but it could leak at any point, right? You check it out at the gas station, well, it starts to leak afterwards.
So exactly, yeah. So yeah, it's not the end of the world, uh, you know, they don't just fire you over stuff like that.
Yeah, of course.
But you got to take the mandatory class to see say that they remediated. Yeah, yeah, but you take it with like 160 other truck drivers who don't talk to anybody for months at a time, and then they're finally in a room to talk with somebody. So the Q&A lasted almost 45 minutes of just people being like, I didn't give me no paperwork, what does it mean?
It was a complaining class, sounds like.
Every time, every time we do it, I'm like, listen, listen, listen, listen.
Y'all are all old enough, you know what to do. What's the problem?
Thank you, dude. It's the worst.
I don't get how people are just big old babies nowadays. I don't get it. I don't see how they function during regular, regular things.
So yeah, that was a 45-minute class, 45 minutes of listening to old truck drivers talk to talk.
Yeah.
So I got a certification after that, say you're good or whatever, pretty much.
Yeah, write my name down on the list. Yeah, they send it off to the the federal clearinghouse saying I took the class.
And yeah, now, now it didn't give her one because she wasn't driving at the time.
Nope. Yeah, nope.
Bad luck of the draw, you know, just broke on my shift and then had to get an inspection right then. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it is what it is.
Now, is all y'all stuff enclosed, or do you have like a, uh, not enclosed trailer where you have to tie stuff down sometimes?
Oh no, all enclosed.
Refrigerated too, or no?
Nope.
We used to do refrigerated when we were at Prime.
Yeah, but no, this is just drive-in because we're all— we're doing is, uh, server towers or box of wires or something like that. Yeah, so no need for the extra. Yeah, no, uh, flatbed that's not enclosed where you have to strap it down, they have a whole nother set of rules.
Oh yeah, yeah, because I'm sure there's more to it. You got to strap this, you cover this for whatever. Yep.
Yeah.
And then the wide load people, I'm sure they got way more stricter because they're way over, you know, they got permits and you gotta have like, um, what do they call them?
Thank you. Uh, pilot cars that go and make sure that they can fit.
So you usually have to hire somebody to knock out all your paperwork just for one trip. It can take $2,000, $3,000 just for one trip.
Dang.
But at the same time, like, if you haul like a windmill blade there are two drivers at one time. So one's at the back of the windmill and one's at the front, um, and they'll— because the back one has its own tires that it can steer. Okay, so it's almost like two trucks together. Um, yeah, I mean, those can pay like $75,000.
What kind of truck is that? I know some of the fire trucks and stuff do that.
So carrying the windmills.
Oh, okay. Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about.
Yeah, like the Wings for it.
Don't they have like a remote control for some of those, right?
So yeah, sometimes they do.
Yeah, that's how they, they move the missiles and stuff like that coming down the streets and stuff. I've seen that.
Yeah, we could get cleared for A&E and all live nukes. We get Humvee and Apache helicopter escorts. Yeah, holy crap.
Yeah, that's, that's big payments. That's— what is that? That's government contract, right?
You have to get DOD certified.
Yeah, so, uh, you can get paid.
Why don't you try to do that? Because there's big money. That ain't going nowhere.
So we are, but pretty much you have to have one full year of nothing on your record at all.
Gotcha.
So I actually just reset that counter. Yeah, but then once you get that one year, you can apply, and it takes another year for the government to clear you.
Thanks. A couple years away at least.
Yeah.
So you can't apply for it even when you have stuff and then just wait till it falls off? You have to admit that. Yeah. So if you apply for it in a year and then you get citation and you haven't been approved, then you're screwed. You're gonna start all over. Yep.
So, and they go deep too. Like, they'll call you and they'll call you and ask you about character and, uh, crimes I've committed.
Oh yeah.
Oh, it's extensive.
He's looking at me like he stuck bubble gum to his bed when he was 9 years old and that bubble gum's still there.
It is true, officer, it is still there.
What? What?
But yeah, they pay big money. Haul a nuke. You won't even— they won't even tell you it's a nuke. The Humvees and the helicopters will just appear out of nowhere.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah, because they won't tell you, so you can't tell anybody else.
Yeah.
Uh, and they, they haul dummy nukes too. So like, they'll send one nuke, but they'll send 3 trucks. Of course.
Yeah, it's like to do the president with different trucks and stuff.
Yeah, yeah.
But yeah, no, those pay like $75 grand. I think we saw one load that was pretty much a .50 caliber machine gun. Just one box of a .50 caliber machine gun, and it was like $24,000 from Tennessee to—
dang, just the freight?
Oh my gosh, that's on the load board. You can look at it right now.
Dang, why don't you—
so like, you're not on dedicated if you're AAE, you have to run the load board?
Correct.
Only AAE.
So if it's paying something like that, why don't— since you ain't got nothing, you got anything on your record or no?
We would both need to be cleared.
It's the truck, really. Yeah.
Okay, got it.
So, but if we did AA&E, we would have to get a Super Sleeper.
We would.
Yeah.
I suppose you ain't gonna get a Super Sleeper now. You're talking about getting a new truck. I mean, I would. There ain't no way.
$359,000.
Whoa, that extra bed.
Dang. Well, it's, it's like a camper. Yeah, it's got a full-size fridge, it's got a shower and a toilet, it's got a shower and everything.
So in a period of time, it'll save you money though.
It'd be worth it though. $18 for a shower and you got to take it together and you only get it 3 times a week versus being able to take one every day, both of you.
In my opinion, it wouldn't be worth it. One, because they're so long. The places that you can get into, uh, some of them you can't deliver to.
95% of the places we go with JQL, we Now it went down to 7.
I don't think it always goes up and down because like, so with YouTube Lives, you're always supposed to put them out like several days before or a week before, let people know you're gonna be live. It's not like TikTok or anything like that.
Yeah, so no, I don't think it's worth it. Why buy 2 trucks at once when you can buy 1 truck and deliver everywhere?
Oh yeah, for sure.
Yeah, it just doesn't make sense. Yeah, not only that, they tear up steer tires. Yeah. Run 2 tires real, real easy because it's so goddamn warm. How expensive tires are, fuck, an $18 shower, I'm not worried about that.
Yeah, take a couple wet wipes, which should be good for a week. Just wipe it down.
Yeah, yeah. So no, not getting a senior slipper. Hi.
Yeah, I don't think I'd probably buy two trucks too. Yeah, for sure.
This doesn't make sense. Start your business. That's what I'm saying, dude. I want to come home and not have to worry about paying for any kind of showers or tires or any of that shit.
Yeah. Maybe he's thinking.
Did you ever find out about that bread or no?
A little patient, sir. A little patient. They working with us.
Cool.
What you got, mate?
She put, uh, funny faces on all of us.
Yeah, that's what she did.
Uh, I see flies getting on my gun.
Oh, it's like a delay.
It's very delayed.
Sunset is going down though. Looks pretty good.
The sun does stay down.
Yeah, how do we see what the fuck we eat? Oh, that's a light.
Yeah.
Oh, I thought it was like a candle or something.
You got a switch on there?
Oh no, push it down, push it back up.
Yeah, your thing's in the way though. Your thing's in the way. I know, you said that Calm down.
There we go. Looky there, that old light right there.
Keep messing with the place.
Throw it in the ocean.
Do it.
Bread's coming.
Z bread. Oh, look at that bread.
Thank you. Enjoy.
Oh, take some of that. Put that down. Grandma wears it too. What are you doing? I ordered the bread. Calm down.
Calm down. Uh, no, that's— I have the passion salad. Sorry. Thank you so much.
Pretty.
What'd you get, Tiff? What kind of salad? Salad? You want butter?
Here, like a piece of bread in the butter.
Tiff, you want a piece of bread.
Uh, yeah. So that watermelon in yours?
Yes, a watermelon with feta. Thank you. Ayla, you want a piece of bread? No, thank you. Blaze, you got one? I got one. I think they ran into superfoods and bought these.
Hello.
They're not even warm. They had them in a bag.
Yeah, yeah.
Holy shit, you just put it in the sandwich.
I just need something, I'm starving.
Yeah, I have to see if the guy can make it.
What, the bread?
Cold?
Yeah. She meant had to see they can give it to us. I'm okay. That's a very little salad. Salad dressing. You like it? What's the that mean?
It's a little spicy though.
Number one fan. Come on, baby.
What is it?
What's that mean? I can't see. I don't know. Yeah, sideways. Maybe that means you're not one.
Is there any more butter down there?
I'm sure there is.
I would have shown it before I messed it up. Mom, can you, can you pass me that butter? Come here, man.
I know you were a smile.
Yeah, the fact that I got that whole grouper over there, it was good. Or whatever it was, it's like the one from Lincoln Some of that feta.
No, no, that's for Manda. Man, it feels amazing. Was about 80 degrees out here, 84 degrees.
They said it was like 102 today at home. Thank you. They said it was like miserably hot.
Did you get all that thing figured out with Sean, the tax stuff, or no? Pay $20,000 a month in taxes. Ridiculous.
You gotta write a check for me and wire it out.
Yeah.
83 degrees. It's windy. Wind gusts up to 35 miles an hour. Here. Here, Jema. That's okay, it's not that big.
No, I thought it was gonna be— I'm done eating it.
I thought it's gonna be bigger. I haven't Got a huge appetite. Take a couple bites. Was the cheese good or no? I liked it. He didn't. He said it had a funk to it.
Well, it was almost— it's, you know, it had no flavor to begin with and then it had too much flavor.
So does it do that over time? I don't know, 'cause it's a cheese.
I have no idea. Usually feta is almost like, uh, Salty.
It's like they kind of cook it or something. It's a tougher feta for sure. Usually it's more crumbly. This is very firm. Did you get a good picture of the sun and the sailboats? No. Oh, that's cool. No? Make all your friends jealous.
I'm beating you.
I'm beating you, Jean.
Everybody hurry up, photos are running out. I got that.
Is that from talking about the bread? You think there are too much in there? No. Is there even another piece of bread? Yeah, maybe I should— No, I Oh my God, there might be some. Mike got it. You just said that there was one.
I did.
Oh, and then Mike took it. Here, Ayla, here. No, it's okay, you can have it. I don't need it.
Yeah, I see Goku trying to eat that girl's scarf on her head.
Oh really?
