Mike Melton says tire blowouts aren't caused by heat itself, but by damage, low pressure, overloading, or age that heat exposes. Check your tires cold before a trip to catch problems before they fail on a hot highway.
Now everybody wants to blame a tire when the tire blows out, but a lot of times it's got a lot to do with the heat, okay? So a lot of times when the heat exposes the problem that you already got, it's either already got a little damage on there, low air pressure, you've been overloading the tire, or it's an old damn tire. And then you throw that thing on the highway on top of it, on top of the heat with the damage, and of course it's going to blow out on you. So before you take your next damn trip, okay, I want you to check your tires while they're still cold before you start driving so you don't have a damn blowout.
