How to fix tire vibrations

Mike Melton shows how to fix tire vibrations using a road-force balancer instead of static balancing. Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus tires on Fuel wheels need dual-plane balancing with clip weights on both sides of the rim. Discount shops often skip this step, leaving vibrations unfixed.

Said he cannot get the vibration out of these wheels and tires. Well, they're not the cheapest stuff. He's got the Pirelli Scorpion AT Pluses on there, which is a really good tire. He's got the Fuel wheels, and the wheels are hub-centric, so you're not going to need hub rings for any kind of vibration issues. All right, one thing I already see wrong is a static balance the wheel. You cannot static balance these wheels, it will vibrate. So if you want your wheels and tires done right, I am Mike, I am with Speedy Tire in Lincolnton, North Carolina. You can give us a call at 704-240-9075. We got your back. All right, we got the first one set up. Let's go ahead and see how this was going. All right, now let's go ahead and spin it, see what's going on with this thing. We're gonna road force here in a second. All right, the road force is coming down, putting 1,200 pounds of force, simulating it being driven on the vehicle. We're gonna call— we're gonna see any kind of vibrations before it goes on the truck. Right now it's coming off. Now look, this is dual plane. That means you're going to have a weight here on the inside and one right here on the outside. Now you see before where they had the 08s, you don't stick it there. Put it over here. And then the other one, we're going to put a clip on right here. So now with that, this thing's only got 4 pounds of force. So of course, with it being an ounce off and not balanced right, it's going to vibrate. Now let's do the other ones. So the thing is, watch where you go, people. A lot of times, just because they have a balancer don't mean they know how to use the damn balancer. Go where they know what the hell they're doing. All right, now look at this one. This is number 2. Look, same way, static balancing. And people, I don't care what you say, Google it. Even though it's hub-centric wheels, use the damn flange plate where you balance it by the lug holes. It does give you a better balance. All right, this is the second one. Let's see how this one comes out. All right, right now that roller's coming down, diagnosing any kind of vibration problems we may have. All right, that roller's coming off. Now let's see where we at. All right, so right here, look, it's calling for 2 3/4 here, an ounce and a half here, and zero weight here, and only 6 pounds of force. All right, so the reason why it's calling for different weights, we're going to hide it behind those spokes so you don't see it. All right, now here's that second one. All right, here's that second one. Remember, they static balance the wheel. You can't do that. It's got to be dual plane. Now here we go, we zero it out. A lot of guys say, oh well, it zeroed out before and I just took one weight. Don't— let me tell y'all something, stay away from these places. All right, here's the next one. They got single weight here, which is fine. A lot of times that's all it calls for. There's nothing on the inside. So let's see what this one does. Let's go ahead and snatch that weight off. All right, we got that weight off. We got it spinning. Roller's going to come down here in a second. All right, roller's on. Roller's about to come off here in a minute. Let's see where we at. All right, so right here, like I said, that's normal, right? We got zero weight here, which is on the inside, calling for an ounce and a quarter right here. We only got 20 pounds of force. So let's go ahead and stick that on, go to the next one. All right, here's the last one. Look, Same damn way. You cannot balance the damn wheels like that, people. Stop going to these half-leg places that say, I can do it cheaper. All right, we got all the weight off. We're gonna go ahead and spin her. Roller's gonna come down in a second. All right, this is the last one. That roller's coming down. All right, roller's coming off. Where we at? All right, 1 3/4 over here. It's only calling for a quarter ounce here and only 11 pounds of force. So when it comes to balancing wheels, you got to know what the hell you're doing. You can't just let anybody do it. A lot of people go to Walmart because they're a little cheaper. They may go to JoJo's Tire Shop because they're a little cheaper. But look what you get. You have to come back to somebody like me and you got to spend more money. Now, of course, we'll go the extra mile shining those things up. All right. Now, this is the way we roll out. We roll out clean. Look at those mud graps on that truck. Now, that's a good looking damn tire. The best looking tire. All right, come on up, show them what the thing looks like rolling. A lot of you guys say, oh man, that thing going to scrub. That thing don't scrub, that thing don't rub or nothing, son. Let's go.
